Please use the included installation txt file. I fixed a few mistakes I made: abs.freemyip.com:84/api/public/dl/ShUDo8u5?inline=true
    0:00 - Preamble
    5:30 - Guide starts
7:51 - Installing Debian Linux in Virtualbox
15:33 - Installing and configuring Putty SSH
16:49 - Logging into Debian Linux, changing root password, and getting the IP of the new machine.
18:44 - Setting Debian to allow root logins via SSH. If you accidentally press a key or mess up this config file, you can exit it without saving by pressing CTRL+X and then press "N" when "Save Buffer?" appears on the screen. That's how you exit safely, then you can try again.
21:01 - Setting static (unchanging) IP in Debian
22:17 - Remember to change iface, gateway, and IP to match yours which may be different than mine. Also, the dns-nameservers must also match your gateway IP.
23:59 - Installing all the software into Debian Linux!
    25:57 - Compiling Azerothcore!
26:35 - Configuring the database (MariaDB SQL which stores all player/in-game data like gold, mounts, characters etc)
28:55 - Running the server for the first time to set up databases.
32:21 - This is where you change the realm name and set the IP address of your server in your database. This can be changed any time should your IP somehow change or you want to change your realm name.
34:09 - Creating scripts and aliases to make starting/stopping/updating/compiling and connecting to the auth/world-server much easier! These only need to be done once.
35:38 - Starting server and connecting to the "world-session" using our new aliases [wow]. So typing wow anywhere in Linux will connect to your world-session as long as your server is running. This window allows administrative commands to create characters, announce a server shutdown etc. You can also do these commands in-game if you are a GM, but you need to add a period in front of it. You do not need a period when issuing administrative commands in the world-session window.
36:05 - Creating account using the "world-session" window. You can get here by typing "wow" in Linux so long as your server is running (by typing start). Do not press ctrl+c or ctrl+z in this window unless you want to stop the server! Just close the putty window when done.
37:00 - Changing realmlist.wtf to the server IP so we can connect.
37:41 - Connecting to our brand new server for the first time.
39:52 - Modifying the config file to change to a PVP server, XP rate, and many many other settings.
47:38 - Modifying the playerbots config file to adjust how many bots we have, what level they start at, and more!
51:02 - I made a mistake here. Set AiPlayerbot.BotActiveAlone = 100 or else the bots seem to wander aimlessly. My apologies! I am still learning myself. I updated the install txt.
54:32 - This setting is currently bugged. If set to less than 2.0, bots will be nude when you "initialize" or "upgrade" them! I fixed in the install.txt file.
1:00:00 - There they go! Newborn bots begin their journey from level 1.
1:00:32 - Trick to hide Virtualbox and Debian in the background using "headless" mode.

Seeing the AzerothCore project and this insane bot addon is huge. I'm a developer myself, have messed with private servers and all of that several serval years ago, but didn't realize how far we have come with this.
All of this is a huge step towards Game Preservation and being able to play versions of this game for years to come, even without Blizzard hosting the servers. Very important for a huge piece of gaming history like WoW is.

@@nirv Awesome that worked, thank you champ! Greatly appreciated!
A couple of things I have noticed in the 2 evenings I have been playing.
      - if you create say 2 alts and then add them as a friend you can summon them like you do with a bot.
I find this handy because I don't like the 1st 10 levels (20 on a druid) so I run around as my main (hunter) followed by my (bot) alt druid and pally. They get some XP too this way.
I also use one 'real' bot healer to be sure they don't die.
With the AWESOME bag mentioned in you manual they can collect quite a lot of junk to sell.
On that note, I tried to add the heirloom items but somehow the .add Name did not work. I got the numbers from the bowhead database,
You done happen to know the real DB items? Even when I connected to the DB Keira3 and use that number that also did not work. Not a huge deal but esp for my 'bot' alts the heirlooms would be great

This is kinda like a dream come true since the social aspect of WoW kinda went down the tubes some time ago. Now you can run your own Classic WoW to explore and play at your own pace without the monthly subscription plus you have the option of doing bots for the raids and dungeons.
Also, they might one day make a WoW 2 and just shitcan all the old stuff entirely.
Also also, people who ask "why" are insane. If you need to ask "why" then you don't know/care enough about classic WoW to already know why this is really awesome.

Using your guide, I've got this working on Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS with MySQL server instead of MariaDB. The steps are exactly the same apart from swapping out mariadb-server with mysql-server on one of the apt-get install commands. I've created a couple of systemd files that handle the startup of the auth server and world server in sequence and also does a backup of the auth and character database before starting the server. If anyone wants them let me know =D.

Hey dude, thank you for the guide. I plan on getting this setup locally this weekend.
I wanted to ask if you had any idea how much RAM and CPU cores I would need to run a server comfortably for a couple friends (4-5) ontop of around 1000-1200 bots? I'm just curious as I would be worried about total wallet destruction trying to host via VPS if I go that route.
Also if you had any data on how much harddrive space a server like that would eat up after a couple months of running 24/7? Or would you say the 60-70gb sounds about right?

That's actually how I have it set up. I installed the server (this video) on my PC in the living room which runs Proxmox - sort of like Virtualbox. The server is running in a VM.
If your other PC on your network has a connectable IP address, there's no reason why it won't work. It's MEANT for multiplayer, whether that's LAN only or online.
Think of it like Halo for the Xbox 1. Games during that period supported TCP/IP LAN and TCP/IP INTERNET play - Azerothcore, of course, supports both, which is how all games should work!

Thanks to this video guide, I was able to get this up and running great on my system. A few things different since I'm running everything on Linux, but I'm stuck with how to access the database like you do with heidiSQL, you know, visually. I have no idea what software to use, or how to set it up. I tried Dbeaver, but I don't understand how to set it up. Any ideas? I'm running Ubuntu 22.04. Not a big deal, everything works great so far, and I'll probably regret poking around in the databases, but it may be necessary at some point.

    • @Painbow9553
      @Painbow9553  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Awesome you got it running!
So the first step in getting your database accessible is setting your bind-address to 0.0.0.0 and restarting the service as I explain in my guide. It's easy to change that setting. Once you do, your sql database now gives permission for computers outside of itself to connect so long as they have a user and password - which I also show how to do in the guide. Just search the word "banana" in my guide.
Once you do that, you can install Heidi, punch in your server IP, the new login/pass you just made and you're in. Easy!

Playerbots. I've always wanted to do something like this. I've had an azerothcore server for years. Intermittently I go play in my world. It's amazing. I always wanted to do bots. But I didn't want to spin up hundreds of wow clients. This could finally make most of the dungeons playable again.
By the way. I recommend you compile a native binary for Windows. I know the CMAKE guide is a pain in the ass but in return you get a server that kicks off much faster.
If you want to run your server in the cloud the yeah. Use a debian. But with the high RAM requirements you might (cost wise) be better off with bare metal.

    • @Painbow9553
      @Painbow9553  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

What in the hell are you talking about? I would NEVER run a game server in Windows over Linux.
The only time I would do that is if I didn't have a choice such as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, Serious Sam first and second editions. Age of Empires. Age of Empires: Rise of Rome.
In other words, where the client is ALSO the server. In other words, not a dedicated server. That's the only time I'll run it in windows.
Why would I do that? My windows PC is my gaming PC. My Proxmox server in the living room is a DEDICATED SERVER.
I only made the video this way because I'm assuming most people only have one computer, and if that's the case, they're better off running it in a Virtual Machine than dealing with Visual Studio and all that bullcrap on their gaming machine. We want it sandboxed.
Having said that, I hope you do it properly and don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me very much when I'm angry.™
