    3 years later and you were able to assist me. Took me less than 2 hours, $16.99 for the switch, $11.99 for an 1-1/16” deep socket from O’Reilly. Thank you for this channel.

    I live in FL and had the same problem your son is having about 3 years back. It gets really hot and humid here. Couldn't figure it out or find any good info other than people arguing in forums. What ended the problem was when i changed my oil pump and went to 5w-40 synthetic oil. haven't had a problem since. Sits at around 13 psi at idle (around 700 rpm). Also make sure cooling system is working efficiently. Hope this helps GL.

    Hi, I have a 97 TJ and my oil gauge always drops when I’m on the traffic lights. No one could figure out what the issue was... until I saw this video. Thanks for the video 👍

      Have the same year TJ and for the last 4-5 years its had the same problem yours did. I think I'm going to give the sending unit a try.
      UPDATE:: worked great! Works 98% of the time. Sometimes it dips down to 0 for a couple secs but I'm pretty sure it's just the quality you get with aftermarket parts.

      @@EyeInTheSkyProductions that's exactly how mine is. 98% of the time it works fine but sometimes it drops down to zero then the "check guage" light comes on but only for a second. I think it's just cheap aftermarket quality. But I only drive it a couple times a week and on bi-monthly camping/hunting trips so doesnt bother me.

    Before you remove the switch, please pull the electrical connector and clean the terminals and place it back on the switch. Sometimes they fix is simple. If this does not resolve the issue, then proceed with removing the switch.

    Yay another Jeep video!!! I went through two sending switches in my 06 Tj! Drove me nuts, I would be at a traffic light and BEEP! Oil pressure dropped to zero? At the same time my engine would try to kill itself. At first I thought it was heat soak. Went out in the forums and found out about this little issue. Thanks for the great content as usual!

      Sorry to bring up and old post. I've got an 05 LJ, have the same issue you had with oil pressure dropping out. For me it happens at idle and goes back up while in gear. So I replaced the sender with OEM and still happening. Was the issue ultimately fixed for you or did it come back?

  • @oliviersauer1

    Very accurate and useful video. My pressure sensor is broken on my 2005 TJ here on Qatar. Confirmed this is the issue of what is leaking, by removing it as per the video and placing it back. Has oil all over between power supply and sensor. Now just order the part and do it once more. Thanks a lot for the video.

    Your video helped me locate and replace my old and faded unit on my 02' TJ... Funny thing - the new one (OEM) gives me good readings until I come to a stop and it drops to 0 - I can turn the Jeep off/on and it goes back up to 40. Going to reach back down there and spray that connector and hope that solves my issue.

    Probably a very silly question, but how do you know weather or not to buy OEM parts from the Jeep dealership or to use a part from an auto parts store. I've only changed my oil, plugs,air filter on my cars so I've never had to source parts like Jeep people do, but I'm looking to buy an LJ soon so I better get up to speed. Thanks,, cheers

    How bizarre, I am having the same issue and did the same video a few days ago. Replacing the sender unit with a Mopar replacement. Then came across yours via a recommended video link. Today I also had the pressure drop at a red light again, it happens very sporadically. Have just ordered a new oil pump etc from Rockauto but might pull the dash gauges and clean up the connectors.

    • @o3djeeps
      @o3djeeps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think my next move is to change to a different viscosity oil. That seems to be the solution moving from a cooler climate to a hotter climate. I will say my son has said he still seeing the issue sporadically even after the new sending unit.

    • @DarrylSheather
      @DarrylSheather 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@o3djeeps I'm in Sydney Australia (its a fairly mild climate) and generally run a 5w-40 Full Synthetic. Originally thought this may be a dud oil filter but dumped the oil and changed to a new filter but same issue. Whilst I probably should put a mechanical gauge on it to check. I do have a leaky sump and rear main so figure it's a good time to fix those and throw in a oil pump whilst I'm at it. Still not discounting a electrical issue though, will have a look at that this weekend.

    Wow…. SO simple compared to the exact same issue on the JKs. Looking at replacing mine this coming week but the design is TERRIBLE. A LOT (for my comfort level, at least) of tear down to get to the sensor. Really wish you could just access it from the bottom like the TJ! On the JK it’s nestled between the cylinders. Why… why would they do this lol. So I’m stuck contemplating spending $600-$800 to have the dealer replace a $38 sensor. Ridiculous.
