I've been using this microphone for about 2 years now, and it's great. But the biggest problem is that any small movement of the USB cable will cause it to disconnect. Plus, the cable that they give you in the box is not long enough for gaming desktop users, meaning you will need to buy a longer cable separately.
Hi, thanks for the review. Would like to ask whether does PM700 Boya mic able to connect to Android Phone like Huawei P30 Lite? And how do we configure the settings in the phone so that can record the sound through PM700 mic? Thanks!
It should work with your Android phone. I have only tested with my Apple iPhone and can confirm it works. Once you plug it in the phone should recognise it automatically. Some apps might let you adjust volume, otherwise you can use the dial on the microphone to adjust it.
In the specification of PM500, the sensitivity is -36dBV/Pa which lower than PM700 (-48dBV/Pa). This means PM500 can capture far away sound better than PM700. In actual use, did you feel the sensitivity difference from both microphone? Did you adjust the gain or volume during PM500 test? Thank you
Yes but you will need to use the Apple usb to lighting connection which you can purchase from Apple for around $49. It has a lighting port connection on one and and a USB type A port on the other. You can then plug the Boya into the USB A connection and your iPhone will recognise the Boya as the microphone...
Thanks Stevie. Yes great quality for a usb mic. The only thing I would like to have been better was the headphone monitoring output level. But as far as quality of sound goes I was quite impressed.👍
Not sure the BYPM 700 has any usb c options. However they did release an new PM500W with wireless dongle and it has a usb C connection for wired and you can use the dongle for wireless connection. th-cam.com/video/o-1rh-rZtmg/w-d-xo.html Sounds close to the pm 700 but probably not quite as good in sound quality. The PM 700 seems to have a bit more bass response.
I do prefer the PM 700. I like the larger size which makes it sit up closer to the vocal. In terms of actual audio quality almost the same really. If anything I notice that the PM700 has a little more definition in the bass tones and seems to have clearer tops with less sibilance. For podcasts and narration it is better, but for basic streaming and conferencing it would be hard to even notice the difference....
You will only need a POP filter if you get up very close to the Mic. I tend to keep it at around 15 20cm distance and rarely POPs. However for voice over work where you need to get close or if you have a noisy room the closer you get the better so a POP filter would be great. As for noise reduction they do not have any noise reduction filters built in, you can do that in your software.
It should work with any app. the camera app, voice memos, garage band. If it is not working try plugging in the mic with the camera connection usb to lighting cable. Then try opening the app after you plug in.
Thank you for this video. I own this mic and was wondering how to connect it to the Sony ZV-E10 camera? I've tried the male to male 3.5mm cable while the mic is plugged into my PC via USB?
Everytime I connect my boya mic to my MacBook Pro, I can’t hear the audio from my computer when I’m in an online meeting or hear anything. Why is it so?
Loved the video. 💖 I have a question- Can this microphone be used on ipad pro ?? Interested to buy this bm700 one, but skeptical about the usage in ipad pro. Please let me know.
I would say that it would work if you have the right cable or adaptor. The iPad Pro has USBC type 3 cable. So if you buy the USBC Type 3 to USB A adaptor you could then plug in this microphone or any other that uses the USB A cable which is the most common.
Thanks for the great reviews. Kindly help me with the two questions below. Can the PM500 and PM700 be used as studio mics? Secondly, do you have a review on the PM700SP?
Well it depends on how you want to set up your studio. Most times if you are interfacing with other audio products you would want an XLR microphone instead and use a sound card or audio recorder with enough inputs for multiple microphones and instruments. It can be difficult to connect more than one USB microphone to a computer. You can do it on a Mac with the Audio/Midi software but no sure on PC. In terms of quality XLR mics are still generally better but it is hard to tell the difference as these USB mics sound so good now. I haven't reviewed the PM700SP as yet.
I haven't tried the K690 only the fifine K678 which is a lower budget version. It worked great and I can vouch for the build quality, low noise level and reliability. It lacked bass response so the vocals were not as solid as the Boya PM700 but I assume the K690 would address that as it looks like a bigger more pro version of the K678..
Good question. That’s a close call both sound great! The Boya might have a bit of an edge on the bass end but the K678 is not far off. I’ll have to put them side by side to really confirm. I’ll see if I can do a side by side in the future

I have tried connecting the mic with Windows 10 and it works very well. Do you get the same problem when connecting the BOYA with your mac? Do you have any suggestions to solve my problem? Thanks
I just plugged it in now and tested on my iMac running Mac OS Big Sur 11.2.3 and it works for me. Not sure what the problem could be. Can you see it in the System Preferences, Sound, inPut section or does it not appear at all?
700 sounds like it has a distinctly better bass response than the 500 - at least through my headphones, which are bassy - but the product listings I'm looking at here in New Zealand say the 700 is 16 bit and the 500 is 24 bit... I would suspect that's a typo, but the 700 has four polar patterns crammed into it versus the two of the 500, so maybe bit depth is where they sacrificed? These are clearly newer-gen versions I'm browsing, because connectivity has been upgraded from the USB-micro you've shown here to USB-C.
I haven't tested the Samson Q2U so can't say for sure. It is a different style of Mic being dynamic rather than studio condenser which has a different sound.
I'm all about the savings, and Monocashback just delivered for only $46. And with a 50% discount and an extra $2 in cashback, it's a no-brainer. I'm one happy shopper!

Hello, very nice review. And now I have bought BOYA PM500, but I get a problem because my Big Sur Mac sound setting not detect the USB microphone at all.
Hi! Can you share which one is better. Boya pm700 or Samson Q2U? Mainly for podcasting
I haven't tested the Samson Q2U so can't say for sure. It is a different style of Mic being dynamic rather than studio condenser which has a different sound.
Solid thx 👍
Thanks so much. Yes very decent sound!
wow thanks.

Yeah it holds up pretty well.

Have you tried turning the level down. I would try around 60% volume...
