    Excellent review, really really thorough analysis by far the best i found.
    I ended up buying it before watching your review, and here i was all worried that maybe i didn't made a nice buy, but at least here in Brazil it seems to be the best price/performance qhd 165hz on market.
    If the price of the gigabyte monitor were in the same margin i would go for it instead!

    For under 200 it works for me. I can notice the darkness but i can also complain about my previous 1080 p going for cheap lighting or what i call almost gray to make up for resolution. Im keeping it. I really only got it to maximize use of my series s.

    I know its hdr is relatively bad, but after trying both hdr mode and sdr, i prefer the colors and overall look of the hdr mode, and don't have a issue with its low brightness since i play in the dark mod of the time. The hdr effect works well enough in games to not bother me. Great monitor overall. Been use to a 1366x766p 32" monitor, so this is superb eye candy to me lmao.

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Glad it works for you, but we don't recommend this panel for any use in HDR- just look at a new miniLED TV showing HDR content and you see how HDR should actually look. This monitor has sub-par performance even among similar spec monitors, although LG is selling this often cheaper now than comparable models. Please subscribe, thanks for your support!

    Thanks for getting some negatives mentioned in the first three minutes. I am happy with my QN600 32" which I use for everything, except I don't game at all. I do use Photoshop, Capture One and DaVinci Resolve daily. I saw an ad for this 32GN600 and got a bit excited because of the current discount to C$199 but I think I'll hold out for another QN600 if they go on sale. I think the specs of IPS and higher bit depth than the GN are probably characteristics that are making me like the one I have and they'd be setup in dual monitor from one PC.

    I bought the lg 32GN63T-B for $199 on amazon, which is supposed to be the same thing but made special for costco, but I couldn't even enable the HDR. I was pleased to hear that this is the worst feature and that it compares relatively well to other monitors in the price range. Thank you for the very thorough review. I wish you had shown a few more shots of the menu and how to set some of the color profiles since that's pretty confusing, but this is a review afterall and not a how-to.

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      HDR requires a bunch of things to go right, including the source sending it and the sending port's capability ie HDMI 1.4 vs 2.0, the connecting wire's spec, and the monitor /display capabilities. The reason we test with PS4 is that is solves the first problem, without Windows weirdness. But HDR can be difficult to get working properly on the best day. Thanks for the praise, we try to strike a balance between brevity and a proper review, we're a small channel so people barely watch a video for 10mins, if that. Well the price is really great. I've seen HDR done right and it can look amazing, but not sure I would want to see all my content that way. There also a key combination to enable/disable HDR in windows but it won't force it to work, so it may or may not be useful. Would need to Google it again 😂 Love the feedback, cheers.

    Thanks for the very detailed review. Could you (or someone) clarify what measurement 'pixel-to-air' refers to? Couldn't find anything about it.

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is measuring the black screen border and bezel together. A few years back we noticed some monitor manufacturers were claiming a product had an "ultra thin bezel" while not counting the large black screen border. While this might be fine for a single monitor setup, dual or multi monitor setups are becoming common for gaming and productivity. So if you're buying dual monitors, you need to know the exact gap between the two monitors. This would be pixel to air x2. So shoppers can get an accurate idea of how seamless their desktop would look. Please subscribe, thanks for your support!

      The 34UM88 initially released Jan 2016, but saw a review as recent as Jul 2022, so you've had this monitor for between 3 to 7 years? Weird that it's dying so soon... maybe try a new video cable, or try a different type of connection to see if the port has issues... or it might be the port on your PC/laptop has a little damage. I don't see the reason to complain about the HDR 10 on this monitor 😕, really it's about what you'd expect for a budget monitor and it's basically driving for fps gamers who are looking for a cheap monitor. If the HDR really bothers you then turn it off, it still looks really good and runs smoothly especially on the Xbox series X. I wished I could afford a top of the line $1000.00 gaming monitor, however I have to make due with what I can afford. I've talked to many companies that manufacture monitors and tvs and baseline monitors are the bareback budget that just gives enough quality and performance for gamers not wanting eye candy but rather smooth game play. I've seen this monitor at a friend's house using an Xbox series X and compared to my BenQ 4k it looked and ran a 1000 times better. My Ben Q bit the dust a few days ago so I ordered this monitor and don't regret it. People expect way to much out of budget products and forget that you aren't paying for a top tier product. I used to be hooked on eye candy but honestly some games look so cartoonish that you really don't want it popping out when you are playing games. Dark games like Dragons of Dogma or Skyrim you can always adjust the contrast and brightness settling for that instead of using HDR 10. Many games I played on my BenQ I turned it off especially in games like Red Dead Redemption 2. I think many players would enjoy this monitor especially at the budget price is sells for offering higher refresh rates for their new gaming consoles.

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If the manufacturer claims the monitor has HDR, we're going to test it, and the result was pretty poor. Also the fact that it advertises as a 350nit panel when actually it's a SDR 300nit panel is misleading for consumers. Apart from this and the panel edge issue we noticed after the fact, this is a decent gaming monitor for the price. Thanks for the feedback!

    • @ICUEverywhere
      @ICUEverywhere ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Techspin I agree with you on that, they shouldn't make claims. But here's an interesting thing to consider 🤔 I bought two identical tvs, one looked bright clear and good sound while the other seemed dim, blurry and to high pitched in sound. Both at factory default and both Sony. I do know that no two identical tvs look the same which could be what you are experiencing. I've seen this monitor hooked to a Xbox series X and the HDR looked really nice compared to my previous BenQ 28 inch 4k. Mine hasn't arrived yet and I hope I don't have a bad experience because there's always a risk of damage when buying online which I believe is what happened to my BenQ which died after about 5 months. I thought my Xbox one X and PS4 pro were going bad, one had lines in the game while the other kept over heating, turns out it was the monitor after buying a series X.

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1) Buying a TV/display in the last few years they WILL be identical for performance, save a tiny variance for 6-axis color and a few nits variance for brightness. Most monitors usually ship fairly close out of the box, but graphics professionals need to calibrate to get the colors 100% accurate. This will be imperceptible to the average user. What you're describing with your Sony is definitely an RMA issue! Sounds like the TV's graphics card failed.
      2) I was a long time buyer of BenQ products, but after bad customer support with a new TV purchase and seeing their (at the time) new 4K lineup which was super dim compared to any others, won't buy their products again. I've had more issues with BenQ products than almost any other tech I own. One TV, the GPU died twice! They have had quality control issues, expected when you're the cheapest on the market.
      3) Lines in game can be caused by a failing display's graphics card, connect with a different wire/to a different display to rule out possibilities. // You make it sound like the monitor was causing your console to overheat- this isn't really possible. However, if your PS4 Pro is set to display at 4K, that will use more processing power, causing more heat- this will happen connected to any 4K display. Better get a room fan blowing over your PS4 Pro, maybe it needs cleaning internally from dust?

They get these tvs as close to specs as possible and you have to understand that there are more than one manufacturing facilities assembling the same tvs. What is really a kicker is that for example I have seen Samsung tvs assembled at a Sony manufacturing facility, this happens quite often you'll see other companies assembling different brands through partnerships. Mainly because Samsung and Sony sometimes share internal components in their products. My LG Ultra Gear 32 inch arrived this morning and through a diagnostics test mine was producing nearly 400 nits using HDR10. I was quite surprised by those numbers as I was figuring around 300 or less. So far the monitor is performing better than I was hoping for. However I did have to re soldier the headphone jack due to a short which is now working with my aux sound bar. I wasn't to upset about having to fix small problems like this. I've been using it all day with no problems and it compliments my Xbox series X ,Xbox one X and my PS4 pro. Prices on the PS 5 are insane right now otherwise I'd upgrade to that. I'll keep you informed if anything happens.

      Kind of apples to oranges comparison there, this is a 1440p 165hz gaming screen more for first person shooters; the other is a 4K 60Hz panels better for UHD media content and Adventure/RPG gaming. I used to like BenQ but had poor CS experience, and their first 4K were super dim, I'd recommend the Samsung or Acer 4Ks if you're looking for UHD. There are high-cost 4K 144Hz panels, their price is coming down but the big catch is you'll need a powerful GPU to run at 144Hz with decent graphics... probably not hitting ultra unless you have a 3090 TI or 4090. The placement of the inputs is incredibly stupid and I am so happy I noticed it in your B-rolls, because I almost bought it. The problem with them is that they limit VESA mounting to a mount that is exactly the size that fits, and you can't mount it if you have a bigger VESA mount with holes in the middle for smaller sizes, because then you won't be able to plug in your inputs, unless you buy angled cables, which are a substantial cost if you are on a budget. I looked into it because of this monitor, and for some reason angled HDMI and DP cables are at premium compared to regular ones, not to mention they are kinda rare for some reason.
    And honestly, taking a closer look, that height difference for the inputs is so shallow, even an angled cable might not fit.
    Oh yeah, and don't even dream about wall mounting it.
    So, buying this monitor would have left me cursing about having to replace my VESA arm, or having to buy angled cables. Such a dumb move by LG, why can't they have the inputs facing down or to the side like almost every other monitor maker. Bad design.
    Now of course I am aware this is probably a problem for a small fraction of buyers, but still... even on the factory stand, if someone has their desk against the wall and is using some of those thick and stiff premium cables, this can be a problem, because it might put strain on the input connectors. Shit, just the sheer weight of a more premium HDMI cable can do that.
    Anyway, thank you for the video and your wonderful B-rolls, they certainly helped me out! :)

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad we helped! Yes, the location for the inputs can get in the way especially say a receptionist desk where you're putting the monitor against a top shelf, and the inputs will be visible. Wall mounting it would have to be out a fair distance too. Please subscribe, thanks for your support!

      That's an interesting metric we might think to include in future reviews. The monitor bottom is 8.5cm from the desk. The Gigabyte G32QC-A is a vastly superior monitor, depending on your location and pricing, this may be much better for you. Our review th-cam.com/video/w2c2gvcAd-8/w-d-xo.html Please do subscribe!

      @@Techspin Ah brilliant thanks for that dimension, it is handy if your a short or tall person. Having that dimension on adjustable stands is handy too sometimes. And thanks for the Gigabyte recommendation, I am in 2 minds at the moment. As I want to get either the Samsung Ark or Neo G98 purely for gaming. But doing work on these size screens isn't great as I do a lot of screen sharing and I have heard this doesn't go well. So I was going to have 2 x 32inch screens as my work/gaming until I get the ultrawide and then these will be for work only. I also didn't want to spend too much as I am getting 2 of them. But thanks again and I have indeed subscribed :)

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers thanks for the support. Running 2x 32" screens, I think you'll find that curved works a little better, though you could VESA mount one up as well. The Gigabyte panel is really good for this, though if you're screen sharing you might need to down-frequency to 60hz or down-res to 1080p for sharing? Might need to test it out first if it's mission critical. The Acer ET322QK we reviewed is a 4K panel that's truly amazing, might want to check that out too, though it's just 60hz.

      As we've mentioned before on the channel, HDR on Windows is still buggy and often doesn't work well. HDR does demand a higher output from your GPU though, so that could be contributing to these delay glitches, especially running at 165Hz which is over double the GPU power needed for 60Hz. There may be issues as windows tried to display HDR content also. Wishing you luck with troubleshooting. Please subscribe!

      You need to make sure the unit has enough ventilation, so if it's in an enclosure or you have a towel or something sitting on top blocking vents, you need to remove that. A fan blowing over the area will help to move hot air away too.

    Got it a week ago. It's a little disappointing. The main issue is brightness - you have to set it to 100%, but it's still too low however you set it up. HDR is unusable because the black levels are so saturated that it has no differentiation between shades. On the plus side: 165 refresh rate works perfectly, and freesync works perfectly also.
    Looks like they put a lower-class panel into a higher-class chasis/control module - the screen itself is the drawback. Get it cheap if you have to get it.

    Im not very knowledgeable in monitors, but I've used a 1080p 75hz monitor for like 4 years now, I just purchased this monitor cause its at 200$ right now cause of black friday deals. When i compare my old and new monitors, then new one seems very...dim? Like its not a bright in general and reds look pink, is this normal?

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the nits (also called cm/m2) your old monitor can put out- this one does 300 with SDR content, not 350. Connected with HDMI? The monitor may be set to limited range 16-235 instead of full range 0-255. This only affects HDMI; the easiest solution or alternate test is hookup with a DisplayPort cable. And you may need to check color temputature, may set to Cool? Please subscribe, thanks for your support!

    TBF to me HDR is more about how the game looks vs how it would look in SDR. With my experience I've always had better colour depth and contrast using HDR on my monitor and generally prefer it over SDR (some games don't look great with HDR, though - maybe just lack of HDR config options in-game). So yeah, compared to an HDR 1000 it's shit and it falls short of HDR 400 but it still looks pretty good tbh.

      Brightness should be at 21 for proper blacks in a dark room but when I play on PS5 with HDR and 1ms frame reduction (black frame insertion) I crank it to 100 because BFI reduces the perceived brightness and max brightness is the only way the monitor will hit max nits on HDR. Looks superb.

    Why the does no one produce monitors bigger than 32 inch which are not ultra wide? I am looking for a monitor of at least 34 inch minimum and 38 inch maximum which is NOT ultra wide. I am now on a 27 inch 2k one. And going from 27 to 32 inch would not make much difference in what i am used to. I'd rather go to at least 34 inch with no ultra wide and preferably at least 165 hz.

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Recently I realized that 32" is really the biggest I want to see for a 4K monitor, and I'd like 1440p monitors more at 27", but the 27" 1440p mons on the market tend to have poor brightness (nits) at this size. 32" seems to be the crucial size.
      Years back I used a 43“ 1080p for a PC monitor but you can see the individual pixels... We tested out a Gigabyte 48" 4K and it was beautiful but got in the way of everything. 😂

    I just got a LG UltraGear 32GN600-B - LED-Monitor - QHD - 80 cm (32") and i cant run 1440p or 2560 resolution because max supported is full hd 1920 by 1080. I have pentium g3240 with integrated graphics...should i upgrade to i3 or get a new graphics card just enough to run this resolution so that i can do multimedia stuff and not into gaming much..

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your Pentium g3240, released 2014, supports HDMI max resolution of 1920x1080@60Hz, DisplayPort 2560x1600@60Hz, and since 1440p is 2560x1440 this should work. However the motherboard needs to have DisplayPort onboard, but many boards didn't have this, only VGA/DVI/HDMI at that point.
      So probably an upgrade is needed. You could grab a i3-12100 and a MSI PRO H610M-G for example, that mobo has HDMI and DisplayPort so a bit of future proofing there, along with a huge speed boost by moving to a M.2 SSD for your windows drive. Total cost for CPU, board and M.2 around $300 or so. And the i3-12100 is roughly on par with an old top of the line 7700K, so you'll notice a huge leap in performance in applications. One note: Don't grab the i3-12100F, as it lacks an onboard iGPU. Please subscribe!

    • @tiffgplu2590

      @@Techspin thanks for the detailed answer yes my motherboaed doesn't have a display port... Is DP better than Hdmi...I don't do gaming just video editing n conversion and primarily I do multimedia content... Also I was thinking of returning back the monitor and going for 27 inches since that's the sweet spot for 2k resolution.. Ppi of 108 Vs 93 in a 32 inch...
      Also I was figuring out Amd Ryzen cheaper than Intel and more performance oriented I am told.. And i wouldn't need a graphics card as onboard graphics is quite powerful. i have no idea never looked at AMD before but have heard good things about them for now and also price to performance factor. What do you suggest ??

    • @Techspin
      @Techspin  ปีที่แล้ว

      DP can often deliver higher resolution or Hz at a given generation. 27" might work better for you if you like higher DPI. The reason we don't recommend AMD is that their CPUs generally don't have onboard graphics, no iGPU. There are some that do, but none of the mainstream ones, ie, easy to purchase/the models most consumers will be looking at, don't. And for a budget build, nothing beats the i3-12100 currently, make sure you get a board with DDR4 not DDR5.
      Because your use-case is for multimedia, the greatest gain will be a CPU/mobo upgrade, so even though a second hand GPU would solve the problem for now, the money spent on this would be better invested in upgrading your 8 year old CPU/mobo combo to current gen. Depends on what deals you can find in the second hand market in your area, but again, looking to the future and your use-case, a new i3-12100 is the way to go.

      DDR4 is still nearly half the cost as DDR5 for the same capacity, with very minimal real world benefits from the speed increase. Win 11. Advise 500GB min for M.2 drive... if you install programs or games, they load faster off the M.2.
