I just started watching your videos last week and I love it. I'm 50 years old and I've been a huge Beatles fan since my mom introduced me to their albums when I was a little boy. Keep up the great work. Every time I watch your videos it inspires me to listen to my Beatles cassettes and CDs. Their music uplifts me immaculately.
Just friggin fantastic......I can't even imagine what that ride out there was like for you.....and as you get to the store, and then there is that walk to the door. That excitement is very hard to capture, and only us geeks can experience. Then the ride home remembering what you just bought, and when you stop at a red light, you peek at a few. Killer stuff!
FlipSideCT - Hey Steve, you hit it all squarely on the head! Yup, I can still see the impending doorway and recall the rush as I was first walking toward the shop, over-anxious to get to the treasures! And yes, I did try to sneak a look at random albums on the way home during the drive! It was a very hot day and I had the albums in two bags on the passenger front seat; it was extremely hot, so I had the air conditioner on, trying to keep the records cool!
I am so glad you ended up with this haul Joe. The reason being that once the contents of this particular collection were revealed online, the first person I thought of who would actually have interest in this type of Beatles vinyl would've been you. So it's good that so many of these records found there way to a good home because to be quite honest the word I've gotten back from the Beatles collecting world was that a lot of collectors were passing this particular lot up for various reasons and the records weren't moving as briskly as expected once the blue chip items like the butchers or the Let It Be box were snapped up pretty early on in the game. Again I am so happy that you were able to put this all together for yourself as sometimes a honey hole opens up geared to a specific collector's taste or needs and this one was yours my friend. Cheers! PS: The story on the collection is that it comes from a gentleman who used to work at that particular shop and sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago. From what I've read online about this guy is he was always someone who tried to help out collectors at the shop and see that they got good deals. If that is true, well as I said part of his collection has found a good home.
jldraw - Great comment! Well, I am certainly relieved that it turned out that most Beatles collectors were apparently uninterested in the particular records that I wanted! I really did get just about everything I wanted on this trip, though if I had more money some other time and could return in a month or so, I suppose there are other second-tier albums I would add -- if they're still there. Thanks for explaining the specifics of the collector who passed away.. I feel extra good now that he might have been happy to think his vinyl went to a good place with me.
There are so many great stories about a lot of these records that have been written about in various books. The title (and the reason why Ringo) appears on the cover of "Code Name Russia" according to author Doug Sulpy is that when The Beatles went on tour in the sixties, they would often travel under pseudonyms with each Beatle being identified by a specific country. George Harrison was identified as FRANCE, Ringo Starr as RUSSIA and so on and so forth. So I remember reading that whenever a particular member of the group would want to move from his current station a message would be sent down saying something like "Russia Is On The Move" which meant that Ringo wanted out of the hotel room. So that's "Code Name Russia"!
good for you Joe. I think you needed a haul like this....especially to get back all your Beeb vinyl. I don't know where to start, so I will just like to say I love the passion you have for this hobby and I share it with you....
Perry Corvese - Oh yes, I am most pleased at having the opportunity to get all the Beeb records back, and in one shot, in great condition -- and for so cheap!
WOW!!! What a grab. Good for you Joe!!! BTW, I did hang around for the entire video, and took kindly to the shout out. Thanks for that! That Last Temptation Of Elvis LP looks interesting. I will keep a lookout for it. Great haul!! See ya soon, Ed
Beatle collector from Scotland sends much respect to you for the great find. Like your good self I sold my entire collection of every UK group an solo release in the 90's. Spent the last 5 years getting it back. Yesterday I got an original mono and stereo gold label please please me. Broke the bank but like you am feeling great. Thanks for this video and keep up the good work!
You honestly got some amazing finds,I loved everything you showed, some of those covers have excellent photos that I hadn't seen before. Great video as always.
Great pickups here, glad for you that you were able to reconnect with these gems from your past collection, must of been a good feeling to see all of those.
Great collection. I don’t collect vinyl myself, but I certainly can relate to collecting and being a completist. Don’t ever apologize for pursuing your interests. You definitely know your stuff. Thanks for sharing your collection.
Wow, what a haul! Half of these albums I didn't even know existed. I love all the covers of the bootlegs but my favorite is at 9:45 - has their logo in the shape of a guitar - like the Monkees :) Great video, Joe!
Nice haul of Beatles boots! I own many of those myself, along with the CD versions. Brings back the late 80's and early 90's when I was first buying those titles. Looks like you have many hours of listening and cleaning ahead!
Joe, my beverage of choice was Earl Grey. Amazing haul. Those Beatle at the Beeb albums are fantastic. Here in England we now say 'Auntie Beeb', I don't know why. I'm going to have to watch this video in several parts but have got as far as the Canadian second album. Great that you got a lot of these records back.
I've just got back from a car boot sale where I saw a copy of that Russian Hard Days Night LP priced at £12, I didn't buy it though. Thats great news that you got some more LP's back that you had in your old collection. Fantastic Beatles update Joe. All the best. Pete.
HOLY COW! this is absolutley amazing! i have seen the very together as it is a canadian release but even in canada, there asking 100 bucks for the darn thing werever i see it. so i have yet been able to buy it! this is really good stuff joe glad you got your stuff back ha ha!
OK Joe! I just watched the whole video. I still remember how out of control I was when I visited the store and saw that they put up over 1000+ Beatles records in the New Arrivals section. I recognize a bunch of these Records from my trip there last Monday including the BBC Bootlegs. My Father has some of those Beeb Bootlegs on both Vinyl and CD. I love the cover of the Beeb Vol. 5 album. That photo was on my Dad's CD Copy. I wish I brought all those Beeb records but I was on a tight budget at the time of my visit. I got paid the Friday after I came back from the trip.I recognized both of the Sessions albums. I don't remember pulling out the Best Of The Beatles and seeing Pete's autograph on the back. The Solo albums I recognized too.Awesome update and thanks for the shoutout. I thought I you while I was browsing through the records at the store. I was I like "I Need To Call Joe!" I'm glad I did! LOL! Talk to you later Joe!
Great Beatles finds Joe. You have hours of listening to do. Well done on the 3000+ subscribers. Each type of video you make is informative and entertaining.
Wow Joe! Is there anything else really to say. What a fantastic haul. And if that's what was left, I can't even imagine what was there when they put it out. I've seen Marv's video and I have never seen anything like that section in my whole life. I'm a bit jealous, but extremely happy for you. Thanks for sharing this and take care my friend...
Hey Mr Mayo(Joe), woooooooooooww!!!!! What a fine!!! I subbed you months ago and for some reason never responded. But I've always watched your channel. And yes I'm kickin' back and having a .........beverage and watching this great great video!!! So happy that you are the new custodian of those great Beatle finds!!!---Lis
Great Beatle finds. Very cool how you got all those records with the one trip. In September, Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl is officially released on Apple. Not sure when the vinyl will be.
Joe, Have you ever thought of doing a review where you compare the Glyn Jones Get Back album to the Phil Spector produced Let It Be album? I think it would make an interesting video if you decided to do so.
Hi Joe. Wow. What a cool collection you got there. Haha :) some of them covers where just amazing. It never fails to amaze me how great some of these beatles bootlegs look. Im surprised they where still there after a week as well but im pleased they where for you mate. Great video as always joe. Already looking forward to the next. Take care mate
rockboy680 - Hey James, you know what this reminded me of? Those really great Beatles record fairs you attend in the UK ! Every time you make one of those videos I love it but I am always so jealous and wish I was there!! Thanks for your comment.
you arrived on a great day - last time I went to Princeton the used records were sparse, the top shelf was mostly new issues. The dollar boxes on the floor were poor condition, weak titles. Years ago, before the resurgence of interest , even the dollar boxes were packed with great finds. I had more or less written the place off but I think I'll try it again.
J Blair - Well, it wasn't by chance that I happened to go there on a good day; I learned that there was a once-in-a-lifetime collection of 1,000 records that the store had just acquired.
MeanMr Mayo I understand you had info about the acquisition. I'm amazed that anything was left after a week. Most especially the bootlegs. After watching your video I almost got in the car and headed over there - but its raining and my wife wanted to stay home and watch Dr Who all day.
Occasionally, very occasionally, we strike gold Joe - well done mate! I just recently myself got a copy of the original Aussie version of 'Talk Downunder'. If the original collection was owned by a collector who passed away, then it's great to see them going to a good home. Makes me concerned about my own collection down the pike... Great vid BTW, your casual presence on camera is great to watch, like talking with a mate who's just dropped by for a beer, that's why your channel is so good! Cheers pal!
tubie07 - Thanks for the nice words. I was thinking myself about what you said - regarding what happens to our own collections after we're gone. While it's a good thing to find treasures from a deceased fan's collection, it only reinforces our own mortality.
Thanks for the reply Joe, I'm a LONG time viewer! Yes, as depressing as it is, it's making me more aware that I need to start thinking about where the LPs go to be appreciated later - can't take 'em with ya as they say!
While I don't really worry all that much after I'm gone, it would be nice to think my collection would go to an appreciative Beatles collector, in a good home, as they say.
Great finds. FYI on Beatlemania; Did you know there were three variants on the initial pressings of this LP? Also, did you know that Beatlemania was the first Beatles album released by Capitol records in North America, Nov 25, 1963? Yours looks like one of the first two pressings. If the jacket inner seams are curved then it is the very first pressing. If the inner seams are straight then it is the second pressing from March/April 1964. The inner sleeve is absolutely correct for pressing up to 1966. By the way, the third of the initial pressing is quite unique. The 6th and 7th tracks on side 2 are unbanded, meaning you can't see where one ends and the other begins.
Hey Joe , great score on the BBC volumes. They are without a doubt some of my favorite bootlegs of all time. Since I collect CDs, I have the BBC Yellow Dog Box set that was released in 2003 . It contains 12 vols. with the same artwork as the vinyl edition. The vinyl set first saw released in 1983 and ironically was produced by Mr. Yellow Dog before the days of the CD. I always loved vol. 7 because it contains the 5th Birthday show of Saturday Club. In addition to containing a killer version of "Lucille" , special guests The Everly Brothers perform live in the BBC studio. Its a great record. Thanks for another entertaining video.
Hy Huge, I'm Fausto from Rome-Italy. I found only your two bootleg in my collection: "Please Release me" where you can ear rare outakes from Please Please Me session and BBC songs and. I bought this double LP bootleg in 1991. The second is "In Abbey Road". Is very rare because was made by a Beatles fan-club and you can hear song about a meeting in Abbey Road Studio. I bouthg this lp in 1983. Regards!!!
Hey man, You may have already listened to it but that posters incense and strobe candles is in fact a radio show of a DJ playing a "promo" copy of what the DJ calls the Beatles next next album get back. I have that on cd and it's a great listen complete with some commercials and radio promos! So jealous right now would love that on vinyl!!
Nice copy of russian Hard Day's Night! I usually find them in terrible thin cardbord sleeves, all beat up and stuff. The copy from my collection is similiar to yours, but the colors are darker. That's the thing about melodia, you can find all sorts of versions of one album, made out of diffirent materials, with different colors and with different sound quality. If you are interested, there also exists a very rare 2LP version of russian Hard Day's Night. First LP is regular Hard Day's night, second is Taste of Honey, a USSR-only Beatles compilation. The compilation was also released separately, and is very easy to find in that form. The sound quality is amazing on both releases, btw.
Whoa, you will be working lots of overtime for this haul - I remember some of these from my days at Revolver Records... I used to buy tape dupes of some of these at record shows for cheap...
dixielandfarm - "Overtime" is a dirty word to me, Kris! Yeah, I originally got many of these at Revolver Records too for my original collection. I'll bet we were in there at the same time at some point in the 1980s!
did you ever go to Abbey Road record shop in Freehold, NJ? they aren't around anymore, but they specialized in Beatles rarities. was an amazing place. closed in the late 90s
Hello, Joe, I've been subscribed to your channel for a considerably long time. Congrats for the channel's success! I'm a huge admirer of your priceless collection and your commentaries, for sure! But as much as I am awed with how well you preserve the covers in their shrink wraps, I am shocked that you slide your records out and in of their paper sleeves. Have you considered migrating your vinyl disks into polysleeves to prevent scuffing and hairline scratching of your precious records? You can still keep the original paper inners inside the jacket, so nothing will be lost. The polysleeves will cost, but I think they will be well worth the expense. Just my humble suggestion.
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I do believe that poly sleeves are gentler for records, but it may surprise you to hear me say that I am also fine with paper sleeves. I don't believe they're as harmful to records as some say, though of course the poly ones are even better. It's just not enough of a concern to me. I don't believe records would have been sold in paper sleeves for over 100 years, if they were truly harmful.
nice finds Joe I called these people on the phone, too late in the game, looking for a title. They are as about as friendly on the phone as a case of venereal disease. Glad you got your BBC album set back. Good for you.
Mark Powell - Sorry you had that unpleasant experience, Mark. I had called in advance too and they were pretty good to me. But I was just asking if the Beatles titles were still there and telling them I would drop by... I wasn't seeing out a specific title.
Oh well, that was the second pressing. Still a great bootleg that you'll actually play for pleasure. When it came out The 910 gave it a big thumbs up in its review. Hope you enjoy it , Joe.
The Beatles 'Very Together' cover was indeed designed by them as part of their 1969 disclosure process. Have you seen George Martin's official Coat of Arms? Look it up. It's a shield with 3 white stag-beetles, and a white tire track. The white tire track is said to represent Paul. Just as the white VW Beetle on the Abbey Road cover represents Paul. With a number '3' hidden in the trees to the left of George on the crossing.
It's funny you mentioning people removing/switching price stickers. I used to do that A LOT way back when I was a teen, at various stores. Mostly did it with expensive imports at places like Circuit City.
Love your videos... here's a tip for removing stickers... use a hair dryer to warm up the sticker, it softens the glue and allows you to peel it right off!
I have a copy of that _Behind Closed Doors_ boot somewhere. In spite of the "These songs are STEREO!" blurb on the cover, the songs are very hissy mono.
I read that Stuart Sutcliffe was first to wear the famous Cardin collarless jacket, and when he did, the rest of the lads were all falling about laughing- John especially, who commented, "Wearing your mum's coat, are you?"
Did they have any of the "Lost Lennon" boots? Those along with the "BEEB" and "Ultra Rare Trax" series are probably the best quality Beatles bootlegs ever released on vinyl. A lot of the other, especially earlier releases suffered from noisy vinyl and mediocre sound quality. But at least the covers look cool! For Beatles bootleg listening I actually prefer the CD versions for convenience and lack of surface noise. But the three series I mentioned are exceptional.
Steve Derda - Yes, they had a few LOST LENNON TAPES (not many though). I am very lucky in retrospect that the Lennon Tapes albums were 32 records that I DID NOT SELL from my old collection! I still have those.
Wow you got The Last Temptation Of Elvis LP, I've wanted that for such a long time, the 1st song I ever heard from that album was Got A Lot Of Livin' To Do by The Pogues, I've never seen that LP before, its got to be pretty rare I should think.
The Beatles Second Album was not issued in Canada until 1967. The one you have there looks like it could be a 1968 pressing, but that's going on the quick view of the jacket I saw in the video. There were about five variations from 1967 to 1969 that had the rainbow label.
Great. That would put at at the second run. There is no difference in the record, but the jacket was made by a different manufacturer than those used on the first pressings. I'm thinking of starting a channel similar to yours where I can talk about the different Canadian pressings that are available. Its really interesting stuff once you get into it.
Ummm.... errr.... uhhh... I am not very literate when it comes to this stuff. I use a small point and shoot Nikon Coolpix camera. My girlfriend set me up with how to do it four years ago.. I just plug the camera into the computer, upload the video onto my desktop, and then drag the video down from the desktop and into the TH-cam "upload". Sorry I can't be more specific!
Hey Joe! Some great finds there. I own the ''Wings Live In Tokyo'' as well. I Bought it many years ago at BeatleFest in Chicago. I've always wondered what the story was with that. Maybe they took the audio from some of the 79' U.K. shows and mixed it with the proper, but fake, audience sounds.
Beatles at the Beeb as usual the officially released ones just scratch the surface of what is available. I remember hearing the bootleg albums with very variable sound quality 40years ago.
Does anyone know why Andy White played drums on Love Me Do on the Please Please Me LP? I did some research and couldn't find much, but I'm sure someone knows why. Was he nervous? lol Thank you
George Martin had not liked Pete Best's drumming, which is part of the reason why The Beatles got rid of him and asked Ringo to join. Martin was not yet confident with Ringo and so he hired a "professional session drummer" (White) when they were about to record their first single. Ringo was not nervous at all and wanted to play, and it took him awhile to get over it. (Some have said it still bothers him to this day).
I was watching the part of the Anthology that featured a few songs from Shea Stadium. The screaming was so prominent, yet - here is the really odd thing I noticed- when you look at the many crowd shots, it seems like the audience were mostly enjoying the music, talking among themselves, etc. I didn't see nobody screaming they heads off, which leads me to believe that aside from the documented music overdubs, there was also crowd noises overdubbed to the film. When the complete Shea Stadium film is released, I'm going to give it an intense study.
Well, those particular shots consist of different times and moments throughout the event. Trust me, I know two people who went to the actual concert in 1965 and can confirm that they couldn't hear a thing due to all the screams! The actual songs themselves were re-recorded over in the studio for the film!
I don't doubt that there was screams at the concert, I'm just wondering that age-old question: WAS IT LIVE, OR WAS IT MEMOREX? (Cue "Feel So Good" by Chuck Mangione!)
Of course it was real/live. The Beatles themselves always said they couldn't hear what they were playing due to the deafening screams. In the Shea film you can see a cop placing his hands over his ears due to the screams.
I saw a brief clip of Jon Lambert, the owner of Princeton Records, on CNBC saying his business is in trouble due to the corona virus shutdown. I fear that the few shops I know in NYC will also be gone if things don't reopen soon, not that it's more urgent than ending the plague and saving lives.

James Griffiths - Hi James. Thanks for checking in!
Those Beeb album covers are fantastic works of art in themselves - lovely to see such thought go into them.
I'm in Beatle record heaven seeing you go through your finds. Makes my 150 Beatle & related collection look very small though. Keep up the good work.
Paul Lea - Thanks for watching and commenting.
I've just got back from a car boot sale where I saw a copy of that Russian Hard Days Night LP priced at £12, I didn't buy it though. Thats great news that you got some more LP's back that you had in your old collection. Fantastic Beatles update Joe. All the best. Pete.

+MeanMr Mayo Let me try moving to either Virginia or Maryland so I don't have to travel long hours to New York like I did last week.
WOW... THOSE BEEB LP's ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE...GREAT VID YOU MADE HERE... GOD BLESS...
I know how you feel, having myself filled in major gaps in my collection! Congratulations!
Amazing find!!!
Beatles at the Beeb series have some very nice looking covers.

The Paul McCartney white vinyl with the black label looks beautiful,.. a nice find there:)
Fantastic vlog!! The Beatles, The greatest band ever!
Great reference for collectors! Thank you and enjoy! Super lot.
Wow! Congratulations on that amazing stack of goodies.
Joe, I know you love the Monkees. Their new album on vinyl has an FYE exclusive in Teal color.
you arrived on a great day - last time I went to Princeton the used records were sparse, the top shelf was mostly new issues.
After watching your video I almost got in the car and headed over there - but its raining and my wife wanted to stay home and watch Dr Who all day.
nice that you got them back, i sold loads of vinyl and now im trying to get them back
Nicely done (the hair) Enjoy the weekend.
Fantastic find. Congrats!!
Great Video! you have quite the collection
Thanks..
Some very cool albums. I got to Almost Grown. I will come back and watch the rest later.
I have the Sessions bootleg on CD. It has great packaging. Try Goo Gone for removing stickers.
What a great score. Really enjoyed this video.
Regards!!!
Good stuff Joe, well worth the ride!
Yes it was!
I relly enjoyed this old clip, I have a couple of these LP's too.
Great finds Joe!
I love PREX. Great place and a cool area to spend an afternoon.
Hey man,
You may have already listened to it but that posters incense and strobe candles is in fact a radio show of a DJ playing a "promo" copy of what the DJ calls the Beatles next next album get back.
I live around 45 min from PREX, have been going there forever, always come home with some
cool stuff .....
did you ever go to Abbey Road record shop in Freehold, NJ?
they aren't around anymore, but they specialized in Beatles rarities. was an amazing place. closed in the late 90s
Adam Grossman - No, I never knew about that. Thanks..
Joe, Posters , Insence and Strobe Candles was released by Vigotone records circa 1992. It should be on purple vinyl which is really cool.
Hi Jimmy... I just checked the record and mine is plain ol' black.
Oh well, that was the second pressing. Still a great bootleg that you'll actually play for pleasure. When it came out The 910 gave it a big thumbs up in its review. Hope you enjoy it , Joe.
princeton record exchange rocks.....sadly, alot of my purge ended up there....always be well joe...peace...rocky
Paul is alive.
Really great stuff here.
oh I love that store so much.
Nice haul Joe.
It's funny you mentioning people removing/switching price stickers. I used to do that A LOT way back when I was a teen, at various stores. Mostly did it with expensive imports at places like Circuit City.
Tsk Tsk Tsk...
One good thing is that you'll never have to buy another Beatles album again, Joe. Just kidding. Great video. One of your best.
Love your videos... here's a tip for removing stickers... use a hair dryer to warm up the sticker, it softens the glue and allows you to peel it right off!
ralphingo - That is precisely the method I use! :)
Wow, nice job!!!!!!!!!!
Nice haul !!!!!
Far overdue comment, but nice finds and a great collection. Love PREx! I go a few times a year. Great store in a nice area.
I have a copy of that _Behind Closed Doors_ boot somewhere. In spite of the "These songs are STEREO!" blurb on the cover, the songs are very hissy mono.
So much for truth in advertising, right?
Nice find! Enjoy!!! ,)
You're right..85... Maybe not available until 87 (here in The Netherlands)
Wonderful Beatles Boots.
Sessions.. Brings back memories....
Paul Mills - Thanks for all your information, Paul. As near as I can see, the inner seams appear to be straight.
Great. That would put at at the second run. There is no difference in the record, but the jacket was made by a different manufacturer than those used on the first pressings.
I'm thinking of starting a channel similar to yours where I can talk about the different Canadian pressings that are available. Its really interesting stuff once you get into it.
I hope you start a channel. Please let me know if and when you do!
Will do, Joe. What do you use for a webcam? Any particular software for making the vids?
Ummm.... errr....
Nice. I have 12 of these on cd.
Thanks for responding Joe, much appreciated!
great stuff brother
Hey joe. Do you have “LAST BLAST” ? I’m wondering if it’s worth buying ....
Jorge - No.
I will be doing a frame-by-frame analysis (much like was done with the Zapruder film) once the Blu-ray is released.
Thanks for the firsthand knowledge! I suspected as much. Now I can put my tinfoil hat away.
Hi, Joe. How much material from the 13 volume Beeb series
was released officially on Live at the BBC vol 1 & 2?
Philip - Not exactly sure...but there's still stuff missing because the BBC 1 and 2 do not contain multiple versions of the same songs.
Nice Haul
Hey joe. Is the 13 album ‘beeb” series in chronological order? Like vol 1 from 1962 and vol 13 from 1966 or something?
No, not too exact - but a little.
where did the bootleggers get these photos? I've never seen half the picture on these sleeves
Cal - I don't know, but that's part of why I enjoy collecting them so much.
Man I love this guy
I saw a brief clip of Jon Lambert, the owner of Princeton Records, on CNBC saying his business is in trouble due to the corona virus shutdown. I fear that the few shops I know in NYC will also be gone if things don't reopen soon, not that it's more urgent than ending the plague and saving lives.
Jazzed this guy has every American release I breafly wondering if he had live at Hollywood bowl 1977
