  • A casual fan, I appreciate the catalog of music and mystery The Beatles have left behind. Unfortunately, I was born a few years too late to have experienced the Beatles as a functional unit and have always been more partial to Sir Paul's post-Beatles work with Wings. Over the years I've developed a small but continuing interest in the myth and the music and have managed to build a decent collection of US pressings. While I don't listen to them daily and they're not one of my favorite bands, this, is my Beatles vinyl collection. A little longer than I would have liked, we have quite a bit of ground to cover, I'll try to keep the rambling to a minimal. Enjoy.

    22 minutes of pure Beatles bliss. Thanks for sharing LJ. Always nice to see other folks albums from the Fab 4. Great job going through the variations and nice editing work to keep it all flowing. Have a great Thanksgiving if we don't see you before then.

    Hi. My Beatles vinyl and cd collection is
    a bit small too, but "meaty" as it has
    a few of the box sets like the Blue Box for
    vinyl and the Beatles in Mono cds; I know you've
    been away for awhile, hope you're alright and
    looking forward to your return with great videos.

    Thanks Laura, for checkin' this out. Yeap, still just a casual fan but after collecting for a quite awhile, they do eventually show up in nice condition one by one and I'd pick them up when they did. With all the new reissues out, I'd think the price of the originals or later 70's reissues would come down quite a bit and may make them a little easier to score for a good price than they've been for years. You'll have them soon enough, hang in there! - Lj

    I remember sitting on my aunt's couch as a kid while my cousin Janis put on Rubber Soul. I used to listen to it over and over and over, I knew thatr album word for word by the time I was eight years old.
    My recollection also goes back to the White Album when that was released. I don't remember who gave me my original copy but I also memorized that word for word. I did get a replacement original before I was a teen and wore that one out as well. I still have both copies here.

    I did get the box but have yet to open it. I was at a friends house waiting for his to arrive and we opened it. He had already bought a number of the LPs individually so the sound was very good. The book included in the box is almost worth the price of the box itself. Amazing attention to detail and beautifully pressed!
    Holiday was fu and busy with lots of kids running around. Time to relax!
    Hope your holiday was fun!

    Hey Gary! Thanks for taking the time to check this out. It took awhile to want to do this and I didn't want to misspeak to frequently! Finally, I watched yours and just went for it. Thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot coming from you! I may or may not check out some of the re-issues depending on price point over time. I'm in no rush but wouldn't mind owning a couple of them. Did you do the box? Thoughts? Thanks again for watching, hope you had a great holiday! - Lj

    Hey Bjorn! Thanks for the insight into the UK releases and they're availability o'er the pond. That's exactly why I wanted to put this together was to learn more about pressings, availability, differentiators, etc and to share the same. The differences in releases between US and UK until they all came together with Rubber Soul are maddening....so much fun though huh? Glad you enjoyed it and hope all's well! - Lj

    Ah, sir Paul. Forever my favorite since I was a wee lad. Love Paul's solo work and would take Wings over The Beatles any day. Band on the Run (spun earlier) and London Town (spinning now) are two of desert island picks. To this day, the guy is a freaking fountain of creativity. May we both be as full of energy and idea (and cash) at 70. Shit, I'm 36 and tired! Thanks again for watching, go spin some Fab four! - Lj

    This was really cool. For a casual fan you have loads of stuff! I'm the same as you when it comes to them, I don't hunt stuff down, but I'm quite happy to buy it when it passes my way. I only have 2 US pressings a really beat up copy of the Second Album found in a local charity shop and the Red Album on Capitol.

  • @BioCYTE1
    @BioCYTE1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, it was enlightening to share them and read through the comments. There's no shortage of Beatles fans or Beatles trivia and tidbits out there, sometimes the only way to start the discussion is to get the records out there, do your best and get people talking! Thanks for the kind words and comment, ball's in your court now! - Lj

  • @BioCYTE1
    @BioCYTE1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for checkin' this out. Definitely an onslaught of differentiators and pressings in the Beatles catalog like no other. Seriously, its almost best for a casual fan to just buy the shiny new reissues. Had they been available when I started collecting, I'd have gone that way! The album behind the jacket is just preference and how I store them. Quick easy access to the vinyl without having to handle the jacket too much. Glad you enjoyed, you're a trooper if you watched the while thing! - Lj

    Fantastic comment John and thanks for watching through this slightly longer than hoped post. Being a tremendous fan of Wings, I couldn't agree more. If one must select a favorite Beatle, mine has always been Sir Paul. His Wings output is essential and Band on the Run (along with London Town) would accompany me to the oft eluded desert island. The UK /US pressing differences are maddening at best and Rubber Soul...a fine choice. Hope all are keeping well, great to hear from you! - Lj

    Hey Rob. What a great memory from Rubber Soul. Your story is half of the reason I obliged this request because it took an awful long time to film and put together. All I wanted in return was some cool new tips I hadn't read or heard before (like your Sgt Pepper inner-sleeve comment) and the great memories people have attached to these albums. You came through on both effortlessly as always. I'd love to see those original copies one day, if only they could talk. - Lj/HadABarrelInTheMarketPlace

    Thanks Keith, glad you enjoyed. I'm happy to do a Bowie post. I'll add it to the list and try to have something up soon. Believe at this point I'm only missing a couple. Let's Dance is a great album that gets very unfairly hissed at by many Bowie fans. Low and Ziggy Stardust are my personal favs and while not dollar bin material, shouldn't be too hard to turn up. Good luck and thanks for watching! - Lj

    Nice collection Lj.
    Did you have the pink swirl inner sleeve tucked inside on your mono Sgt Peppers with the insert?
    The red apple on Let It Be was supposed to signify that the band was done and another words, the apple has ripened. The only true collectibles I have besides all my original pressing are sealed copies of 'Help' and also 'Rubber Soul'. >I really like the way you backed up your stereo copies with the mono's. Now that is a sign of a true collector~

      Thanks Israel! I hope you find a freakin' awesome collection when you visit the States. It's very territorial here which means that if your in the southern states, you'll find alot of southern rock, country, etc. The northeast and midwestern states tend to have a lot of great seventies and eighties rock. Of course you can find crappy overplayed 80's records just about anywhere! I've had the best luck finding Beatles along the east coast, just something to think about when planning your trip! Can't wait to see what you turn up! Keep the great videos coming, thanks for the support and lookin' forward to more great posts in 2014! - Lj

    See? A great tip. The pink swirl inner-sleeve is still inside the mono copy and in nice shape. It took quite a few copies over time to find one that still had it intact. That would have been a good candidate for Duane's "inners for winners" contest! I remember reading the apple had ripened comment years ago but had forgotten about it. Thanks for bringing it back to mind! I don't usually do the mono/stereo wars but the differences in these recordings are impossible to avoid. - Lj/MakeMineMono

    An Apple pressing of Yellow Submarine would be a nice addition and one I'm sure will fnd it's way in eventually. Right on to Grandma Roberts for keepin' it in the family and to you for maintaining the personal value of them! Best of luck, that's one collection that will keep you busy for sure! Fascinating comment, thanks for sharing! Born in '76, I've had the luxury of time and parental influence in choosing my favorite Beatles album. That said, I've always gravitated towards the later material and Let it Be has always been the one that's gotten the most stereo time. I'm just engulfed by it. It truly is amazing as you pointed out that it was in fact the one that was the least cohesively created! Thanks again for watching and sharing, appreciate the comment! - Lj

  • @siskokidd
    @siskokidd 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fascinating that their most difficult album to make is your favorite. They spent half the time playing those old favorites just to play something, instead of working on new tunes and inviting friction. A former neighbor of mine was a friend of G. Harrison at the time, and actually spent time in that studio while they were filming and recording. Surreal. The Hey Jude album? I swapped a few records for that one years ago. Love it!

    Lj , your views on the Beatles pretty much mirror my own! I really like some of Maccas later stuff and Band on the Run is one of my favourite albums! In fact I like a lot of Wings output! The interesting thing for me is the divergance from the uk albums of the early releases.They come together with Rubber Soul. I have a few of their albumsincluding a 3rd issue of the 2nd album which is quite valuable.I need to revisit them maybe this weekend! My personal favourite I think is Rubber Soul! - John

    Hey man, as a Beatles collector it goes without saying I'm absolutely drooling over your collection! I don't have many US pressings in my collection although I'd love to find some, over here record stores think they can stick ridiculous prices on them because they kinda figure Beatles collectors will just snap them up! Anyway, if you have any spares or extras laying around it would be great to set up a trade of some sorts. Maybe UK for US? I couldn't care a less about first pressings! Hit me up!

    The studio albums, up until recently with the reissues, have been really tricky to track down in nice shape for non-Beatlemaniac friendly prices. It's taken awhile. Sounds like you have a pretty solid collection going yourself! As far as where I buy, its really a combination of record stores (never Beatles though, too pricey), Goodwill, garage sales, Discogs, eBay (not too often, too pricey), etc. The comps will come your way, hang in there and thanks for watching! - Lj

    great collection brother.! i have aquired the new stereo remasters, looking forward to the new mono remasters that are coming out in september, im now on a search for original uk lp's and u.s. copies, already acquired rubber soul, revolver, sgt. peppers, all 3 original uk mono copies, an original u.s. mono magical mystery tour, 2 original uk stereo copies of the white album and an original abbey road uk stereo release, so i think thats a good start for right now, would love to get a hold of an original uk white album in mono but you know what can u do. lol, but hey an original copy none the less is still amazing to have and hard to pick up, sorry to elaborate on and on just wanted to share, enjoy your videos very much and nice colection brother :)

    • @BioCYTE1
      @BioCYTE1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your off to a great start, congrats on all the pickups! After The White Album, I stayed away from the Stereo remasters. Having multiple originals, and to be honest, not listening to them all that often, it just didn't make sense to me to add the reissues which themselves were the same masters used for the cd's and therefore, not truly analog. The mono copies are exciting, I agree, I may add some of those as they become available and the price drops a bit. That catalog is one that will keep on paying royalties until the final sun sets, no question. Thanks fo rth ekind words and for watching, if you grab some of the mono reissues, drop me a line and let me know how they sound! - Lj

      +Clive Ford And to this day, I do still maintain, I'm a casual fan. These came with time, simply picking them up here and there when the price was right and most definitely before the vinyl boom caused them to skyrocket. Prior to the reissues, I couldn't believe what they were selling for and to this day it seems the originals still fetch decent money. When the mood sets in though, and it doesn't last long, it's cool to have them around to spin a few before shelving again until the next time. I've not seen the movie you mentioned, no. Will keep an eye out for a copy, thanks for the tip and for takin' the time to catch this! - Lj

    Just read the divergence on UK and US releases of Beatles albums and the first album to have the same track listing in the UK and US is Sgt Pepper. The Beatles hated the US Versions, so it was little surprise when they were finally released on CD they decided on the UK releases, and have the only US release being Magical Mystery Tour.

    Hey Dale! Thanks for taking some time out to watch this. Went a little longer than I'd have liked but what are ya gonna do right? Given that we're not talking Judas Priest here, I tried hard to stick to the well documented facts! I am casual at the end of the day and much prefer Paul's solo output with Wings. You're super well rounded as a listener and I love your taste. Where do you shake out as a fan? Hope you had a great holiday, always more great albums to spin! Take care brother! - Lj

    There are some nice colored vinyl albums of the Red '62-'66 and of the Blue '67-'70 and of the White album, and maybe a Yellow vinyl of the Yellow Submarine album.

      Thanks, appreciate the kind words and comment. I'm honestly not a big Beatles fan and have found all of these over the years at yard / garage sales, flea markets, etc. I've not once picked one up at a record shop as they tend to want crazy money for them. Thanks for checkin' this out, good luck with your collection! - Lj

    Thanks Vance! Honestly, I truly am casual at best and have no plans to pick up the re-issues. Its nice to have crisp clean new copies available but with the same already in tow (and some multiples at that) there's just too many things on the list ahead of them. If (major IF) I spring for two they'll be Let it Be and The White Album. Thanks for watching, it's just built up over the years. - Lj

    I'm a Beatle fanatic record collector and can tell unequivocally that your stereo Introducing...on Vee-Jay is a 70's reproduction.I've seen 100o's on Ebay claiming to be the real deal but have only spotted 2 authentic copies. My bid of $5,000 didn't win it.....One last thing, Someday folks are going to wake up and realize just how hard it is to find those original 67 pressings in near mint condition!!! It only took me 20 years to get everyone of them in the stated condition!!!

    • @BioCYTE1
      @BioCYTE1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Merely a casual fan, and I believe I mentioned this in the video, I had no preconceived notion or concern that the copy of Introducing was authentic. To be honest, it it were, i'd most likely sell it to someone that would appreciate it far more than I would. I'm sure hunting down near mint original copies is a herculean effort, all of these are in very nice condition and like yours, they didn't come over night. It's been one here, one there over the years and I haven't paid more than $1-2 for any of them. I see them everywhere now that the vinyl boom is in full swing for $20+/ea in absolutely terrible condition. Blows my mind that anyone would pay that for them in that shape. Thanks for checkin' this out. - Lj

      You have a nice Beatles collection! Keep looking, you'll never kno hen you'll get to a guy selling a Beatles collection for short money. My best Beatles find as from a lady I worked with told me her older brother was a big Beatles fan during the 60's and wanted to sell his Lp's The best Lp I got was an original NMint VJ "Jolly What" in stereo. He had all the others also...for $200.00.

      +Desoxyn Man I was going to tell him the same thing, but back-tracked the comments since I knew somebody else would have noticed it too. I have an original mono feb /.march 64 vee-jay pressing. Of course they pressed in stops and starts as Capitol was taking them to court which lead to so many variants. I don't know what mine is really worth though, since I just got it yesterday. ( probably only $20-$40 as It is in only fair / fair condition. Beatles above the center hole. No fading on the purple band... Honey is spelled nice and squarely. Good strong plastic etc. etc.

    Hey LJ. Did you know: There was a Beatles album titled: "Rock & Roll Music"? The 1st pressing was released as a double album with sides 1 & 4 on record 1 & sides 2 & 3 on record 2. All 4 sides include a coke glass filled with soda pop. The re-issue version was released as part 1 & part 2 both on the late 70's green Capitol label. You oughta see both pressings of that album. What do you think about that? :)

      Hi Mark - Believe I had a 70's reissue of Rock and Roll music, don't quite remember. The original sounds like a nifty gimmick. - Lj

    When the later greatest hits came out on blue vinyl, they also released at the same time, the red album on red vinyl (As you mentioned) the White Album came out on white vinyl, and Love Songs came out on Yellow Vinyl

      Oh yeah, Reel music came out on Gold vinyl, Abbey Road came out on green vinyl, Sgt. Peppers came out on Grey splatter marble, and Yellow Submarine came out on clear yellow vinyl as well.

      smfcpthowdy For a mega-Kiss fan, you know a helluva lot about Beatles albums! I had no idea about all the colored releases and although I still consider myself only a casual fan at best, I'd have to admit that if I tripped over a colored copy for a buck or two, I'd grab it for the coolness factor. Haven't' paid more than that for any of these, they just all came over time and mostly before the vinyl boom drove prices into the stratosphere! - Lj
