That's because his design and movement in the original game were 100% rotoscoped. Where as the remake just uses a basic 3D model taken from the Sands Of Time.
Yaron Shaked I disagree. Animations are just as good in this version, besides, there are more animations here (back-flips, running on the walls). It's just that animations in the original Prince were revolutionary for its time and this game is in the "nothing special" category now. But if you look at them objectively now you can see that modern animations are NOT worse.
Booruvcheek I personally think the acrobatic movements in a remake are a good thing, because they speed up the pace of an otherwise slow platformer, while still giving you just as much control. It made it feel like a nice blend of classic PoP and modern PoP. If they ever remake the sequel, the barrel rolls would come in handy for dodging the slicers pretty quickly!
Something that made the original so unique was its realism. The prince wasn‘t really that acrobatic and had to walk a certain amount of spaces to make a long jump. Here the prince can just longjump shortly after starting to walk. And even then, the original prince had to gain momentum first. This one can just run instantly.
and that is the biggest problem with this release, it takes away the proper timing you had to do to jump and hung from the edge, a key element of the PoP series. its basically made for little kids.
@@giornikitop5373 I hope they redo it again and get the gameplay and music right, the dungeon lighting is a bit strange too...a lot of yellow and blue. having played multiple versions of the original and the xbox360 version i can say this is an inferior game because of poor game play mechanics and reduced challenge.
It was a good excuse to play through a classic again. I then played through my original amiga copy again and have just bought the snes port to go through at some point. Got me into the games again so I like it.
Of course a Japanese....very skilled I was pissed off he was in a hurry missing all the good stuff...but he got every single thing i wanted to see at the end
If you don't like this game then go and play the DOS version, it's still there. This is a great update, and makes it actually fun and fluid. Kids could enjoy this and not even know it's a remaster, which I think is a great thing.
1. Whoever did graphics for this version completely misunderstood what was the original game about; 2. If you have two windows close to each other, sun should be shining from the same side (assuming this is not a Persia from another planet)
Man it looks like combat is insanely easy. Guards were far and few between in the original, and each one was a nerve wracking experience. Also the chomping blades have lost their visual impact in the switch to 3D, since they are entirely side on and look like very thin grey lines. In the original they were drawn slightly side on since it was an isometric 3D perspective, and you could see the tooth blades.
And long gone are the days when these platform games were made for gamers, who had to memorize which of the switches on the ground triggered what, instead of having colors indicating which switch will open or close a door.
Fallen Virtue Games Yeah - no other port has really nailed the sickening and abrupt "crunch" the blades did when chopping you in half, the way the DOS version did. As kids it gave us an adrenaline shock each time it happened, and facing one of those things took all the courage we could muster, each time.
Plus, forget the chomp noise when they hit, the sound of them just clanging together on a miss was so heavy you knew those things were business. This version of the game looks awful, I have to say. The jumps are clearly instant, they give you all kinds of auto-turning and jump-to-climb moves and charging sword attacks that the original didn't have. I'm not saying "different is worse" here, but they took out all the cool little nuances that you had to learn and use carefully and replaced them with easy, auto-win crap. Even switching sides with guards now has a special, canned animation that gives you lots of time to see what's happening, instead of a quick switch, often with you stepping in fast in the hopes of closing the distance before the sword slash from the guard could hit you and push you back. The SNES version of this game is the king of them all. That version was just amazing and added so much cool stuff to the original, not to mention the incredible music and graphics.
I saw a playthrough of the original version, and somebody commented there that as a child, he didn't realise how hard it can be to hide a sword in your trousers ....
I will say this. This game is a bit too easy and nerfed. But it's not to say I haven't died on this game. In fact, I died on this game a lot. So it's not to say it doesn't have any challenge. It has some, but not as much as the old Prince of Persia. Guys, this guy is just an expert on this game so, don't mistaken him for making this game being too easy. It still has some challenge in it and I say it's still worth giving the demo a shot and buying it if you'd love to play it and beat it.
This version it's just like those "enhanced" 60fps remakes of an animation. Also, my favorite version is the SNES one, although I have an unconditional love for the original DOS version.
Some of the physics and fight mechanics look different on this. Some of the jumps he makes (and running off the edgy of something and grabbing as he falls) weren't possible in the original, and the fighting seems to be more complex than parry or lunge. But it's nice to see the original levels mostly (5:49 is slightly different in the the guillotines didn't go quite like that in the original) preserved where the graphics are updated.
Am I the only one who likes this game? I mean, I grew up on thr snes version, so I think that one is better, but I really like this one. The combat animations seem much better, it's no longer a guessing game as to which platforms do what, and the transitions from screen to screen are even more fluid, and the background looks great. I think the biggest "flaw" is that the prince is much more mobile and athletic - a type of movement just not suited to the original prince of persia game, which was based less on mobile acrobatics and more precise movements and timing.
Same here. I played this game when it was on DoS ( I gave up but cannot forget the game) but I love this "fake" 3D style, much more than the real 3D version.
I grew up with the DOS version and played it alot via 1989/90. Made the way to the SNES version as well but I never knew about this 21 century remake?! This is the first time I've ever seen this, it does look pretty good via the environment details, the animations are okay at best. I guess it new found aspects that make it easier via the checkpoints and highlighted floor switches might make it it's new found strengths & weaknesses depending?! They have to make this version appeal to an ever growing hard-to-please crowd by adding new elements. The wall jumps, lunges and backflips do add any easier game play experience from what I can see?! Wouldn't mind trying this version out just out of curiosity and this version and the 1989 original should co-exist in a ever growing console platform. Neat.
