    That’s a lot of rigs for a difficulty breathing run.

      Most of the resources would not play any part in treatment, as there is only so many people that can access the patient.

      Scarsdale FD does not regularly respond to EMS calls. They were special requested by the PD. So look at it this way - the difficulty breathing call received an ambulance and two cops. The "EMS assist" call received an engine, a ladder, and the shift commander. These are all pre-planned assignments, nobody looks at each specific call on the spot and decides what they should send.

      Thanks! This is a result of pre-planning and computer-aided dispatching. Scarsdale FD does not regularly respond to EMS calls, however they were special requested to this one by the police department. That means the category in the computer would be an EMS assist rather than an EMS call. Their pre-planned response assignment for an EMS assist is an engine, a ladder, and the shift commander. I can only guess this is because if they are being requested to assist EMS, most of the time they are in need of manpower.

    You would get one ambulance staffed with two paramedics in my area, unless their dyspnoea was severe or life threatening.

    • @LowHudEmergency
      @LowHudEmergency  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And this call got an ambulance with one paramedic and one EMT. Then the fire department was special requested by the police department. I'm sure there are times when those two paramedics in your area need some extra hands.

      @@craigclaassen7346 It is very common for police departments to respond to fire and medical calls around here. Many departments have some or all police officers certified as EMTs.

    As an ER nurse & former FF, I can tell you too many responders can make it hard to work. People understandably get excited when an infant is involved but this was a bit over the top. For people wondering, the police have a role to play here. Was the child injured, assaulted, neglected, etc? Are people or animals interfering with rescue efforts? Will the transport benefit by a police escort? I always appreciated having a cop on scene. They often perform excellent CPR as well & may be the closest responder. Cruisers are often equipped with AEDs & O2.

      What I think people are not understanding is that nobody looked at this specific incident and decided what apparatus to send. These assignments are all pre-planned well in advance so no on-the-spot thinking is involved. Scarsdale FD does not regularly respond to medical calls, meaning this call was an EMS assist in the eyes of the computer. Their pre-planned EMS assist assignment is an engine, ladder, and the shift commander. It doesn't matter if its a two-year-old with difficulty breathing or a 500 pound person who needs to be lifted and moved out of a house; it looks the exact same in the computer. The dispatcher has no discretion in the matter.
