Hope you're all having an amazing day, everyone! First let me talk about the Elephant in the Room "Mekanism" and the missing QIO. I am very sorry that I missed it, personally I only use Mekanism for Energy and Resource Production/Automation so even Black Hole Units were kinda a new thing for me. So thats why you have here a quick summary on my opinion on "QIO": PRO: - Massive Space (16 Bil. Items x 8182 Types in the biggest Drive) - Straightforward Setup - Nice UI CON: - High-Cost / both RS and AE2 are cheaper than QIO - Multi Step Crafting Recipes > both for the QIO and the Drives (Fision Reactor, Polonium, Antimatter, etc.) Overall, I would rate QIO as somewhere between low A-tier and high B-tier if it were a standalone mod. However, when combined with Black Hole Units, which I find to have no use since we have functional/sophisticated storages, the overall rating for Mekanism averages out to low B-tier. Additionally, I overlooked Botania's storage option, "Corporea Networks," and the quick assessment is that it's F-tier. It's very convoluted and unintuitive to use, and it's not easily accessible either. If I should have missed any other Storage Mods please let me know and I will share my opinion on them. Please keep in mind that this video is only about ATM9 Storage Mods since I saw people asking for a Mods which are not in the Modpack. Thank you for watching the video and I hope you will be back for the next video in the series!
The one cool thing about the corporea network is the corporea spark that lets you use chat to request items when nearby, this can in theory be paired with your existing ae2 network... in practice tho it's finicky, and has a limited range, but sometimes it's easier to use chat then to navigate a GUI. Personally I use CC:T+ modular routers or pnc to do the same thing, and it request autocrafts and works at infinite range, and is honestly cheaper and easier to setup (once the code is already written)
Few notes: Mekanisum - electric chest/barrel (basicly double chest backpack) logistics transportor (sorting & accessing) robit (electric single chest and other features) Tanks Ars novu- Storage lecture after linking you can unsummon or kill the book worms removing the lag and chest noise has multiple other feature that allow creative block interactions Receptical (double chest in a single block) Create- item vault (clunky but cheap works great with inv accessing mods) PNE- logistic drones and pipes Reinfost chest ( shulker box basicly) Smart chest (2xshulker box with features) Drone ( ngl probably to complicated but has an inv and can do what ever your willing to program it to do) Tank (liquid storage with some features) Aerial accessor (interacts with you players inv) Ocultisum- Storage bag that I forgot the name of ( just a big bag) Probably some more but I haven't played in a while over all a desent teir list but just remember don't under estimate any thing on 1st glance there are some truly amazing things that can slide right under the radar that could completely change how you look at things and play the game XD
@dwr1001 limited yes but it can't be underestimate as it's both cheap and easy to set up and the resources needed are infinity accessible with in the mod with 1 maxed vault you wouldn't need to worry about inventory for a long while just need a convenient inventory access mod witch over half the mods on this list has at lest 1
Thats true I remember having quite some fights with mods like Botania or Tinkers Construct in the past! But I am trying to change that atleast for the people who enjoy playing Minecraft nowadays with high quality and straight forward guides and videos! :D
@@EpicEnchants I actually loved tinkers construct and absolutely not made like 50 weapons throughout my play throughs...... But never was a botania fan
@@Bruhwhy8 Oh yeah I loved Tinkers Construct as well but I was struggling with the fluids alot since I only learned waaay later that you could move them around after melting them ^^*
I would've also been shocked, only here for the take on ae2 vs refined storage Kinda have the same take, but since I played a lot on 1.7 I'm more ae2 "branded"
I think spatial storage makes applied more useful overall compared to refined. After using applied for years I'm finally starting to deep dive into it and use p2p tunnels and all that fun stuff. The video creator is totally right about applied being more of a challenge for a little bit more rewards.
I agree with this. It's like counting mekanism pipes as storage because they can hold items inside for a short period of time. Or even something like a furnace. Sure, it stores items, but that's not what it's meant for
Exactly. I think it should be a B tier mod. It doesn’t do a lot, and it’s more of a supplement to other logistics mods, but what it does do it does fantastically, easily, intuitively, and cheaply. Instant, never ending, cross dimensional transport of lava and water is what I use it for the most, but it also transports items just as easily.😁
Indeed, i would use that mod as a depot for miners to dump their resources to then export its items to either a autosmelt solution or AE/RS systems, same for liquids, lava pump to ender tank then import to industrial foregroing tank and use a RS interface, i also use the barrels not to store mainly but to limit resources, i dont need bilions of nether warth, a barrel with netherrite stack upgrade + void is enough then RS interface on the controller, i would mainly use the RS mostly to autocraft and store lose items as it not limited by types, common blocks (dirt, cobble etc) i always store on barrels with nether stack + void or the blackhole and then interface those into RS
you missed some key points about the traveller's backpack: it can be worn at the same time as the sophisticated backpack since it has its own dedicated player slot, it can also be placed in world and comes with a deployable sleeping bag, it can be upgraded to include a crafting table, and it comes with tool swapper slots
@@oskifv yes, but you now need 3 items to do what 1 can. in addition 1 of those items has its use case discarded late game, 1 of them requires an anvil and levels and the last while useful still requires an inventory slot as opposed to just existing. the backpack is helpful early and mid game for storage, "weaker" abilities and utility, and the dragon backpack's strength and regen is welcome at any stage of the game. and you can get it for free by doing things you should be doing anyway early on.
The sleeping bag and the unique backpack bonuses (the fire resist, no fall damage, etc.) are the only unique things that it adds, but it having its own hidden wearable slot is a mixed blessing. You now have to have a second hotkey for opening it, and you have to remember that you're wearing it, because it does not show up in your inventory, curios, or anywhere else on your character screen. It's not a bad mod by any stretch, but it feels very awkward in practice. I rarely bother with it and focus on upgraded Sophisticated Backpacks.
I totally agree with almost every ranking in this video but i feel like you massively underrated how powerfull sophisticated storage actually is, you can upgrade a double chest to netherite tier then add the stackupgrades like in the backpacks. If you than add a controller you can stack a bunch of these which you can than connect to a storage bus saving you the hassle off dealing with storage cells all together. Also this seems to be a lot less laggy as it spreads outs the items over multiple blocks
Sophisticated storage drawers are also great for sorting as you can link a drawer style barrels and normal barrels together with a storage controller, along with filter upgrades you can create a flexible system for sorting things like ores.
Personally I find AE2's autocrafting way more versatile and flexible than anything refined storage can offer, making it better than refined storage at least in end-game as setting up auto-crafting for many different mods crafting stations is much easier. Also AE2 things adds a disk in that doesnt restrict item types, though once you are late-mid game you should be able to churn enough disks out for it not to matter.
@@c4hamster Definitely not faster, both in terms of crafting speed and server performance (lag) a good ae2 crafting system is faster than rs, even with all the addons on both sides from my testing. AE2 is arguably even cheaper to setup at scale in the end game, but takes up more space.
the thing that made me switch from RS to AE2 was multiple import/export/interfaces in a single block space. that and being able to interface with gregtech, but thats more atm9 specific
@@chaostheultimaytExactly. The whole point is having adorable baby dragons transporting your stuff. Connect it to a sophisticated storage controller or something similar and you only need the one if lag is a problem.😁
This tier list would have been insanely helpful if I didn’t already know about these. Can we get a power generation pod tier list? Would love to know what’s available and how it stacks up to other methods.
Nothing feels better than starting to automate 64k storage disks and building a server room, its probably some of my fav hours spend in any modpack, sure, its always the same, but i still enjoy it so much.
Im just starting atm9 to the sky and Im planning on doing an AE2 system and setting up a "server room". do you have any tips for how I can understand the system completely?
@@aidenfelhandler1947 Channel management is the key, only build the disk drives in packs of 8 because AE2 could have some problems. Also AE2 blocks like the Molecular Assembler also pass along channels so you wont need to connect everything to a cable, only one thing and everything else that is connected will also get channels. Craft the smart cables so you will always see what channels are used and how many are still left. There are lots of videos with ae2 tips and the ingame AE2 tutorial book also has some nice pics of optimal systems
I get rating ender chest low as a storage but if ranking as storage it is more support. I see the mod more as a form of item transport, even a support in that catigory as well
Indeed, It's a brilliant mod to quickly and easily get stuff across dimensions especially for the cost, Hook one of them up to your system so everything thrown in gets sorted and with a Pouch you can go Dungeon delving and only get inventory problems when your system is full
Even a full netherite backpack often isn't enough to store some stuff, like if I loot a lot of chests with unstackables. Having the ability to just dump all my items into storage from anywhere is amazing
Sophisticated Backpacks has also become one of my true must-have mods these days. The portable carrying capacity really does get truly insane when you start getting to the "inception" upgrade, which lets you load a bunch of other bags into your main bag, and you can set it so that things the bags pick up will automatically go to the nested bags. Plus things like portable crafting tables, furnaces, and all of that... it is a definite must-have, with Sophisticated Storage being a handy companion that uses a lot of the same logic. I should really play around with Refined Storage, though, if I ever get to the point of making systems that need more robust, unified storage. AE2 has been one of my go-to mods for a very long time, but Sophisticated Backpacks and Storage have just... generally taken its slot for accessibility's sake, and the lack of need for power. Still, I'll ALWAYS love the modpacks that are built around an AE2 Spatial Chamber, like the Material Energy series.
One that was missed in applied and refined is both also can use other storage mods as part of its storage. With a storage bus you can just about use anything as a storage block instead of just the cells. It’s great for things like storage shelves since you can displayed for quick grabbing but still be included in the massive storage too
Yeah. You can have a smelter or smelters going endlessly and dumping the results into Drawers or limited barrels from Sophisticated Storage then attach the storage bus with a high priority so they stay in there while still being seen by the system.
Traveller's backpack at C tier is kinda crazy. Not only do you get a decent solution for fluids and a crafting table built into the bottom right corner, but like the sophisticated backpacks, you can also put it in the world so you still have easy access to take all the stuff out. I wouldn't say its S tier, but at the very least give it some credit and put it in B tier. If anything, i would move the Ars Nouveau storage and swap it with Traveller's backpack
I really hope you continue this video series! There's so much about the ATM pack that just gets buried by how many different ways there are to do the same thing. Sometimes that's fun - like having one person focus tech and another so it via magic - but often times it's just confusing.
Yes my goal is to get rid of that confusion and provide people with the option too chose whats best for them ^^ Thanks for watching and your comment! :D
honestly thats my biggest problem with moderate-large sized kitchen sink packs. they have so many cool mods but theres just no reason to go thru most of them because its so easy to ignore them. it allows you to ignore mods you dont like, but then it also ends up causing you to miss out on many others that would be worth checking out otherwise
Best tutorials about modded minecraft/atm. I can’t believe you have so few subscribers. The video/sound quality is good and I understand everything you explained. I like that you present your builds in a way, that a beginner understands them while you show the way with the maximum efficiency for a specific mod.
Thanks a lot! At the end of the day the channel is still pretty young and I am very happy with my growth. There are other channels who might grow their channel quickly through one viral hit but then they are often missing the slow process of building up and working with a community which I want to do! ^^
Conpletely new to this modpack. Have a little bit of experience with modded MC but yeah when I first started a world and found a loot chest I quickly felt overwhelmed with how quickly my poor vanilla chests were filling up even at very early game, and needed to understand the storage systems. Planning to do a server like storage system with a central storage facility, that will branch out to different builds depending of the mods, for example a storage part dedicated to Immersive Engineering, or for all the harvesting mod, or building blocks in general This video gave me so much ideas that I now need to dump it out on a paper while at my job lol, thank you for that
I'm so sad that Tom's Simple Storage hasn't made it into ATM9. It was really nice for an super early game storage solution in ATM8. I know that it's ultimately not very good, but it was so nice for super early game.
only reason i can think it wasnt included was the amount of infrastructure needed, since the main gate is poloium which is only obtainable from mekas reactors
No? Its like applied energistics storage but without processors and auto crafting and also you can increase the storage in mekanism with only a few ressources
@@hallowiegehts3959 you also get completely wireless access to it through the portable qio dashboard which you can access in other dimensions without all the bullshido ae2 implements. Also you don't need to charge it even
@@onefinelad6263 I think its great, because it can interact with ae2. If you have the setup done you can store 10billion items with 8000 different ones in one slot.
Mekanism also has QIO storage option with its export and import totaly wireless. Event its terminal is wireless. Quite expensive but supermassive QIO drive holds 16 billion items of any kind. I usually use QIO at the endgame with AE2. They complement each other quite well. I didnt know about bins before this video. Doubt i will use the bins.
suprised to learn about the QIO fans, I usually completely skip it, seems way to expensive and late game to be worth setting up. But can you storage bus a qio drive? That seems like a great alternative esp in packs without ae2 disks via an addon
03:48 The traveller's backback also allows you to place it on the world, has 4 tiers of capacity upgrades, and has a sleeping bag, just fyi. Just seems the case you made for sophisticated backpacks can also be made for traveller's, maybe there's some lingering biases here
Well the Sophisticated Backpack has more total storage and the stack upgrades allow you to have have tens of thousands of items in a single slot. So purely storage wise the travelers backpack can't compete. Also I do mention the tier upgrades of the traveler backpack in the video ^^
14:00, you forgot to mention that every chest with the same color is linked to each other, which makes long distance, cross dimension item transfer possible
Thank you for the video! Your channel has been very helpful for my first time getting into ATM, It's easy to get a little overwhelmed with all the options. That being said, I would like to see a video covering the different power(FE) generation/storing mods!
Got this video in my recommended, honestly its the perfect timing as i was feeling the exact sake about my single pkayer world about 30 seconds before. Felt board abit, closed it and went on TH-cam. And this was the first option. I will binge watch this entire series rn
when you talked about refined Storage you said that unlike AE2 its disks dont care about the amount of item types in the system, but AE2 in ATM9 does have a addon called AE2 Things that adds disks that dont care about the amount of item type you have in the system.
@@awesome_ayush4760 In JEI you can search for things specific to mods with the @ symbol. In this case @AE2things. But to answer your question, it's [amount]K ME Disk Drive.
AE2 has some drawbacks like pure crystal growing and the channels, but AE2 stuff adds crystal growers and enderIO has the ME conduits which negates the need for channels.
pure crystal is not a bad thing, u can literally craft a lot at the same time, and also can fix with some addons, and channels can be disabled (boring) or u can just learn how to handle it with some p2p channels
Glad to see people not completely bypassing Ars Nouveau, and it raises points I never noticed. The lag never became an issue, because I just use a single bookwyrm connected to a storage controller, or Minecolonies warehouse block. For the same reasons, the noise of opening chests is also not an issue. I just enjoy having a storage system so early in the game, since it needs no power and is crafted with a bit of gold, archwood, maybe some lapis, etc. But I still carry a backpack, I dunno how my remote storage could be thwarted (outside of leaving the dimension) but I don't want to find out and have no backup system.
This is definitely a very helpful video, as I didn't know of a couple of these. The format of a tier list does make it a bit tough on mods such as enderchests and dimensional storage as they do one thing really well. A possible suggestion is that you can give a 1-5 on three different things for example: Cost, complexity and overal usefulness as an example.Maybe on the end too you can give your favorite for early, mid and end game
Very good idea, Enderchests definitely is a Very great solution to move items large distances and cross dimensions especially for it's price, it's valua isn't in its Storage but in its strength as a way to connect various places with very little overhead and hassle, Especially if you combine Pouch connected to a sorting system that empties the chest you'll have no inventory issues what so ever when you go dungeon diving, I would recommend applying Filters for things you Might accidentally throw into your Pouch so you don't need to go home, Or get stuck in an awkward mistake, On it's own it's not much, still better than the Vanilla option (And older than that), but it absolutely Shines when you have another mod taking stuff out and sorting it
Very impressive and thorough discussion of the various systems. Like most folks, I often lean on the 2-3 systems I am familiar with and often miss out on other, lesser known mods. I'm currently going through ATM9 TTS and, thanks to this video, have been using Integrated Dynamics + Danks/Sophisticated Storage to amazing effect. Thank you so much for such great content.
I really do think Integrated Dynamics is one of the most underrated mods in all of Minecraft. It is insanely powerful, with loads of applications from simple fluid transportation to automated bulk crafting for farms. Once you get a single Menril Sapling it's virtually free to make the required parts, and it can be utilized anywhere, interfaces with any storages possible, can even play blocks and fluid and collect them automatically. It's crazy
Amazing video. I was going along making predictions as I watched. My predictions were mostly in line with what you rated them. But I learned some new things for sure! I had no idea Integrated Dynamics had that kind of storage interfacing capability. I would have set that up right away in my playthrough if I knew that. It really is an underappreciated mod. Also, thanks for reminding me that Dank Storage exists. My backpacks will thank you too.
I think the QIO makes mekanism at least B tier no? Massive amounts of storage, doesn’t need energy to run, completely wireless import and export, hand held storage access etc
he didn't cover anything about mek's QIO system, he only take bins into the ranking which is sad for mek's QIO not to be included and imo QIO system is a low B, it can replace dim storage and ender chests bcz it can works cross dimensional the drawback is the production setup to be able to craft one and no fluids/gases can be stored
@@euclids7 Use AE2 with it, storage bus the terminal screen and you can have WAY better item storage with The ability to still see fluids and gasses
I always go for sophisticated backpack with magnet and deposit upgrades, coupled with drawer controller and similar, it makes it so easy to collect then neatly dump stuff where it should go. Also these backpacks are great for farms as "chest" especially with the magnet, stack and void upgrades (sure the sophisticated chests can do the same but you can just pickup the backpack and carry it over your main storage system, or you can move your quarry with it). Nice video, super useful, great job. I am back trying again ATM9 and all your videos help a lot
I agree with most of your rankings For me AE2 is better than RS but RS is a decent early-mid game storage system. once you begin getting into autocrafting and other more complex stuff AE2 is the way to go. AE2 also with one of the addon mods has drives that act like RS drives without the 63 item limit per drive. They do cost 2 netherite per drive though but by the time you get to an AE2 setup you should have enough for it. When it comes to Ender chests I would place them in high A tier if not S tier. While they alone don't add much storage when you have a lot of automation using other mods or a lot of farms having them all filter into an ender chest that is linked to another storage system (Normally for me it is RS or AE2 depending on my point in the game) they are an amazing asset allowing you to not have to run cables everywhere. And since they work across dimensions that saves you from having to make the expensive cross-dimension systems from AE2 and RS. (Not talking about handheld terminals). My only gripe with the mod was its low storage per chest, I didn't know you could use Epearls to increase it. (Tip for beginners to the mod, shift-clicking a diamond on the chest will link it to you which is useful on servers) Beyond that I think your rankings are fine. I wish Industrial Forgoing was as good as it used to be but nowadays with newer mods its storage is just lacking. Also fun fact. The reason a lot of mods are stuck at 2.1b storage as their max is due to the Minecraft block data limit being 2,147,483,647. over the years mods have found ways around this limit but a lot of mods still use it as a limit.
For those that don't know, 2.147 Billion is max 32bit signed integer size, so be carefull, otherwise your world can get a Stack Overflow Error if too many NBT values are in your storage network. But great video! Good to see other options available!
Danks are great, and I think not enough people use them. Filtered pickup lets you set what you want to go into the dank, so all mass-quantity blocks like dirt/cobble etc go in. Only issue is a minor bug where even if you have a slot locked, if you take out all the items, it sometimes doesn't recognize the slot item to pick up again. With a dank 7 you essentially have a drawer with like 30 slots and max netherite upgrades. You can even attach an external storage to the dock and treat it like a drawer system, but in one block.
Ender Chests with Logistics Pipes is S+ tier. Only downside is it takes 3 inventory slots to use (one for requester, 2 for I/O) but it's obscenely cheap, works cross dimensionally and .. drumroll.... you can integrate it with AE. You'll feel its power when you dump your entire inventory of netherrack into your deposit pouch and watch as it's instantly whisked into your item system. Not even AE can do that. LP also has a really powerful autocrafting system that's not only inexpensive but can integrate any processing with a stable input and output and can also do so recursively. I think at this point I use its autocrafting for things it wasn't designed for more than I use it for actual crafting. You're probably thinking that LP is insanely strong with that alone but it gets even better if you add computers; that's right, you can use this little mod to run ACE on the server running it and- oh, they patched that? Darn. Only thing that comes close I can think of is PneumaticCraft's player interface which can change your inventory directly. Only reason I put it a tier below is because it requires you go all the way through PCs irritating progression* and it's also a lot harder and more limited to use. (I actually lost a playtester to this, they got extremely frustrated and literally deleted the pack because of how tedious the mod was)
Little tip: You can wear both traveler's and sophisticated backpacks and open them with different keybinds! Good for the early game. Step 1: Equip your Sophisticated backpack on your back slot Step 2: Right click the travelers backpack while it's in your hotbar, and look for the little image showing steve equipping the backpack. Click on that. And now you have both backpacks on!
Great video ! if you use the mod "AE2 things" or "AE addition" you can have a disk that doesn't have limited types of items, with a maximum of 65M items per disk !
This video rocks. We're just getting an ATM 9 server going and this helps a lot - haven't played ATM since 7. I too have a love of the sophisticated backpacks, up to and including the fact they can play music while flooding stored blood into the physical world. ROFL
Very useful video, I've been playing modded for a long while now and tend to always go for ae2, so this is useful in showing how the other mods work in a simple way. I personally have never used the ender chests mod as a storage mod as I see it more as an item transfer mod (them in effect becoming a wireless pipe, and never having any items sitting inside for a long period of time). Also never disrespect ae2 by hovering over F...
No One mod can beat applied. That does all what we Need... And the auto rafting Is Simply Amazing... If u play in modpack like Project ozone 3 in mythic you Will know that applied Is the only way to play the modpack. With all that recipes... Applied Is the only perfect auto crafting mod
Well that's true when playing project ozone but remember this ranking is based on All The Mods 9 where both RS and AE have their add-ons which vastly improves their usability. The ranking changes when playing different modpack. Unlike project ozone, All The Mods 9 doesn't have overly complicated crafting required to get to the endgame. RS is more than enough to carry you through endgame. My gripes with AE is that it is very tedious to get started because it requires additional machines like inscriber and charger.
I always want an exhaustive pros/cons of each mod in a pack, sorting them by utility is perfect. Maybe some categories like power, ranged weapons, melee weapons, armor, dimensions, ore processing, plants & food, magic, mining, etc. would make good options?
Emder storage is in my opinion very usefull mod and it can save so much resources and time when playing modpacks. Especially when you use some chunk loaders you can connect every storage, farm or whatever you want with those.
Quick tip! I use Soph backpacks for general storage while roaming and use danks for resource storage, I find this most useful. its good to mix these rather than just sticking to one storage!
I will forever be a diehard RS fan. AE2 was my introduction to digital storage and I still look upon it fondly, maybe I should try it out again sometime
btw you forgot that in atm9 there is an me storage cell that dosnt have the cap of items. There is an version, where you can store only data, without regulations of itemtypes. But i guess that was only in the 8m or 16m version. is quite a bit sice i played it. But nice work so far :D
Just a tip if you have both Sophisticated Storage and Ars Nouveau... With a single bookwyrm, you can connect to the I/O block from Sophisticated Storage, thus accessing your entire chest setup from a single block, and eliminating the noise from the chest opening, as your bookwyrm will simply not have any chest to open, he'll just interact with the I/O block. This, to me, feels like a great synergy between the two mods.
I'm glad to see that AE is still around. I haven't played since the 1.7.10 days so I'm not at all familiar with most of these mods. But AE was always one of the cornerstones of my games back in the day.
It's kinda funny that the whole reason ATM started in the first place was to showcase fun new alternatives to already well established mods. The whole modpack was built around the idea of "I know you like X, but imma give you Y to try out bc it does what X does but in a new way and I think it's neat".
Definitely did Traveler's backpack's dirty in not giving it B- or A- tier, but I guess I can see why if you're only considering it for the category as a storage mod.
IMO IF deserves slightly better than F, the Black Hole Controller unit lets you slot black hole units into the controller, making the equivalent of a 16x16 drawer that can store both items and fluids, making it one of the best *tanks* out there.
Oh I missed the controller you are right! The thing is I dont think it changes my ranking though the cost issue with Black Hole Units still presides. Also I kinda like the visuals of Functional Storage of seeing all my items on the wall over the compact setup of the controller. Another thing which seemed to be unclear in my video. I didnt take tanks into consideration this video is purely about item storage. If I added Tank Storage into the mix I would have needed to double the Modlist atleast so I tried to focus on the main problem normally have "Item Storage" ^^ Hope that clears that up and thank you for your comment! :D
@@EpicEnchants Functional storage is still the better option for items (tho not fluids IMO) far and away, but I do still make a black hole controller or two for some of the most space efficient deep storage. (or quite possibly the best after the soph storage nerfs)
@@coolbot100s8 Functional storage is probably the best option for fluids it can void fluids without the use of a trash can which makes it S tier as a fluid storage imho
Dont blame ya for missing it since most forget it exists but the Botania Coporia index is another solution which id personally rate mid to low C, its cheap but not the easiest to learn to use. other than that great vid, look forward to other vids!
So testing this on ATM9: To The Sky currently. To anyone unsure of whether to pick AE2 or RS for your primary storage mod end game... There was a few major facts about AE2 that the video didn't mention (No flak to the creator, missing some things is bound to happen): Fact 1: It was mentioned that AE2's cells increase their byte count, but no mention of what a byte actually is. AE2's 'Byte' doesn't equate to '1 item'. For example, a 1k RS cell can hold 1000 cobble or 1000 pickaxes or 1000 prefilled chests or 1000 completely random items. No matter what you put in, it can take 1000 of them. This makes them a great general dump storage system. AE2 is limited to 63 item types (a double chest, plus a hotbar for easy visualisation) and various 'bytes' as mentioned. However each 'byte' can support far more than 1 item. To use the same example as above: A 1k AE2 cell can hold 8128 cobble or 8128 pickaxes (assuming they're all the same durability/no differences in enchants etc), or 8128 prefilled chests. As long as it's the exact same item, AE2 can hold 8128 of them. That is a significant difference. Fact 2: AE2 disk drives have a additional 2 slots. So if you're using 1k cells, in RS you can store 8000 items in 1 disk drive and in AE2 you can store 81280 items in a single disk drive. Fact 3: If you feel that the channels system is too annoying to work with, if you're OP or in single player, just run /ae2 channelmode infinite and the channels won't exist anymore. Dense cables and AE2 controllers will also cease to exist, so you can expand as much as you want from a single energy accepted. All in all, both have their significant advantages. RS is significantly better if you just want to clear your inventory of random junk of varying durabilities etc, but AE2 is significantly better at mass storage. In ATM 9: To The Skies, AE2 also has 'AE2 things' which adds the 'DISK Drive' which is basically a RS disk, using the same 1k, 4k, 64k etc system, but removing types and storing up to 1k, 4k etc items. It also has far more addons, such as Applied Flux, Applied E (Project E integration) and others. I am unsure if that's the same in the base ATM 9 though.
One thing about the ars nouveau storage lectern that is worth poiting out, is that it doesn't need to be connected to only chests, i found the best way to use it, is to connect it to a storage controler with tons of drawers connected to it, but you can use any kind of storage block, so you can potentially have a gigantic storage, while it is only connected to a single block
Functional Storage in A tier hurts lmao. It is incredibly useful for mass storage of single items and can be even better with the storage controller which can be hooked up to your AE2/RS system via an External Storage/Storage Bus. It saves a lot of types on your disks since it literally only takes up 1 slot. It is an easy S tier for me.
Thank you! Thats exactly what this video was for give visibility for all these options, the ranking is actually just to add some context and dialogue for the community :D
@@EpicEnchants honestly I don't see how anyone can disagree with the ranking as well lol, it was a very informative video and clearly very well researched.
I always love your videos, you have not even close to enough subscribers for this quality of content. You cover every option and even though I don’t really watch guides on mods I always watch your videos, because you always have some small insider/pro tip that’s helpful. Agree with the tier list as well, especially the top part, have seen way to many „ae2 vs rs“ questions and posts even though it’s just a matter of preference.
At 12:22 you show an IntegratedTerminals storage terminal used with the sophisticated storage controller. unfortunately the block looks out of place in a setup of multiple sophisticated storage containers. So my question is: is there any other way of getting similar functionality with a block that fits the medieval fantasy theme of vanilla Minecraft and sophisticated storage?
AE2 was my first introduction to modded mass storage and I've honestly gotten almost too accustomed to all the quirks of setting up an ME network for storing all the things and building even more of the things. If im playing with tech mods that require multi tiered crafting (or god forbid mystical agriculture) my first priority is getting autocrafting going so i can give my fingers a rest
In my atm9tts playthrough, im using several types of storage, i have functional storage for the armory drawer, sophisticated strorage for all of my mob drops/essences/raw materials, ender chests for the transfer of materials, and the main AE2 network to tie it all together. And I upgraded from refined storage to AE2
Protip for the Sophisticated Backpacks: You can use the magnet, void, and tank upgrades for a mob farm. It picks up items and xp. Voiding can be configured for overflow or whitelist/blacklist. The tank lets you pump liquid xp out like to store in an obelisk.
Functional drawers tied with ae2 is one helluva combo. I took on a huge sidequest to create a mega storage with it. Basically, i fully upgraded a drawer controller to have... I guess it would be something like a 128 by 128 (not sure, i remember the range extending 64 blocks on each face) ... after witch, i painstakingly linked each drawer (did not realise you can change the config tool to click and drag untill after like...300 drawers latter) and conected the storage controller to the me network. The bad part is that opening and closing any ae2 interface (like the wireless crafting or me pattern) would freeze my game for afew moments, but other than that, it works flawlessly. Also, linking so many drawers caused the game to freeze when linking new drawers...so that's fun. Sure, it might be overkill. Yes, it took way too long. But it sure looks amazing with shaders. Basicay dug up a huge hole under my base (had to use a destruction gadget), where the top is the me network stuff, and right below , i have that colosal drawer network.
I'm surprised Tom's Simple Storage wasn't included. It's really easy to learn, not too expensive, and using Create's Vaults you can get HUGE storage sizes with a lot of variability, while drawers - well they're still drawers.
Please if you haven't played mekanism to its fullest please do you might change your mind about certain things like how mekanism is expensive it is not. You can get something called a digital miner pretty early and you will never go mining again and will be rich with every type of resource. I managed to finish mekanism in a few days only playing it once before and when i played again it was a little less then a year. JEI helps a lot to but mekanism has its struggles like any mod does but it is not hard at all and if your only using it for power then you don't even know everything it can offer like 5x ores which in the end will get you that 16 billion storage in no time at all. I would say the most annoying thing is its just time consuming in some moments. Solid A tier for me on mekanism also great tier list video keep it up
I really wish you would’ve highlighted one thing; the functional storage mod + ae2 or even RS is a life saver since you can use the External Storage from RS or a Storage Bus from AE2 to access your drawers from the network, effectively downsizing the amount of disks you need to make!
another really powerful ability of sophisticated backpacks is the experience pump upgrade, which (combined with a tank upgrade) allows you to siphon experience to and from the player, and, most importantly, can automatically repair Mending-enchanted tools and armor. It is _incredibly_ powerful and lets you turn nearly any armor into power armor, as long as you have the experience for it (and XP can get out of hand very quickly) plus the ability to adjust your XP level lets you get enchants very cheap
So thats why you have here a quick summary on my opinion on "QIO":
PRO:
- Massive Space (16 Bil. Items x 8182 Types in the biggest Drive)
- Straightforward Setup
- Nice UI
CON:
- High-Cost / both RS and AE2 are cheaper than QIO
- Multi Step Crafting Recipes > both for the QIO and the Drives (Fision Reactor, Polonium, Antimatter, etc.)
Overall, I would rate QIO as somewhere between low A-tier and high B-tier if it were a standalone mod.
Personally I use CC:T+ modular routers or pnc to do the same thing, and it request autocrafts and works at infinite range, and is honestly cheaper and easier to setup (once the code is already written)

logistics transportor (sorting & accessing)
robit (electric single chest and other features)

Reinfost chest ( shulker box basicly)
Smart chest (2xshulker box with features)
Drone ( ngl probably to complicated but has an inv and can do what ever your willing to program it to do)
Tank (liquid storage with some features)
Aerial accessor (interacts with you players inv)

Probably some more but I haven't played in a while over all a desent teir list but just remember don't under estimate any thing on 1st glance there are some truly amazing things that can slide right under the radar that could completely change how you look at things and play the game XD
I kinda missed the storage drawers mod and maybe even create, although it's storage is limited
@@xivilaikikira3768 I meant the storage capabilities of the create mod ;)

I would've also been shocked, only here for the take on ae2 vs refined storage
Kinda have the same take, but since I played a lot on 1.7 I'm more ae2 "branded"
I think spatial storage makes applied more useful overall compared to refined. After using applied for years I'm finally starting to deep dive into it and use p2p tunnels and all that fun stuff. The video creator is totally right about applied being more of a challenge for a little bit more rewards.

The big cube for maximum “channels” god even in creative i run out of things to add.
I'm not sure if it still functions the way I remember.
But Ender Chest Mod isn't mostly used for storage, but instead, Wireless Item transport.
Instant, never ending, cross dimensional transport of lava and water is what I use it for the most, but it also transports items just as easily.😁
ye its a easy wireless transport with separate "channels" with dyes so u can have a shitton of different ones.
@@jedichris85transports lava? SSS tier mod already!
There’s the tool belt, there’s a sleeping bag, and there’s a crafting table on a stick, it adds nothing
@erin.anderson thankfully you can see it while in f5
Was ganna mention the same accept the sofistacated backpack part, didn't know that
I totally agree with almost every ranking in this video but i feel like you massively underrated how powerfull sophisticated storage actually is, you can upgrade a double chest to netherite tier then add the stackupgrades like in the backpacks. If you than add a controller you can stack a bunch of these which you can than connect to a storage bus saving you the hassle off dealing with storage cells all together. Also this seems to be a lot less laggy as it spreads outs the items over multiple blocks
You mean lagg friendlier then functional storage, or to what do you compare it, could be a way to reduce my lag.
Sophisticated storage drawers are also great for sorting as you can link a drawer style barrels and normal barrels together with a storage controller, along with filter upgrades you can create a flexible system for sorting things like ores.
And don't forget, the upgraded chests can still go double chest for that early game storage.
Use “Useful backpacks”
i was under the impression it was laggier because it is bigger, are you sure about that?
Personally I find AE2's autocrafting way more versatile and flexible than anything refined storage can offer, making it better than refined storage at least in end-game as setting up auto-crafting for many different mods crafting stations is much easier. Also AE2 things adds a disk in that doesnt restrict item types, though once you are late-mid game you should be able to churn enough disks out for it not to matter.
AE2 is beter in almost every way for me, except it is difficult to set up and expensive
But Atm9 has tiers of crafters from Refined storage that can be fast as Ae2
Faster IIRC, my RS system is basically instant
@@c4hamster Definitely not faster, both in terms of crafting speed and server performance (lag) a good ae2 crafting system is faster than rs, even with all the addons on both sides from my testing.
AE2 is arguably even cheaper to setup at scale in the end game, but takes up more space.
the thing that made me switch from RS to AE2 was multiple import/export/interfaces in a single block space. that and being able to interface with gregtech, but thats more atm9 specific
5:20 You can actually just kill the bookwyrms after you connect everything and it stays connected, removing the entity lag.
Wait really? I have to try that, thanks! ^^
Lmao
I will never kill the adorable bookwyrms!

Based on the voting that will be up next :D
Well, it might be for you, but I never bothered with RFStorage so I was very interested in seeing what it brings to the table
Nothing feels better than starting to automate 64k storage disks and building a server room, its probably some of my fav hours spend in any modpack, sure, its always the same, but i still enjoy it so much.
Server rooms are cool
Server rooms are cool but you can corrupt chunks with too many drives. Nbt overflow
I get rating ender chest low as a storage but if ranking as storage it is more support. I see the mod more as a form of item transport, even a support in that catigory as well
Indeed, It's a brilliant mod to quickly and easily get stuff across dimensions especially for the cost,
Hook one of them up to your system so everything thrown in gets sorted and with a Pouch you can go Dungeon delving and only get inventory problems when your system is full
Even a full netherite backpack often isn't enough to store some stuff, like if I loot a lot of chests with unstackables. Having the ability to just dump all my items into storage from anywhere is amazing
@@nodrance especially when you loot Dozens of different things the Backpack quickly becomes incapable of keeping up
Sophisticated Backpacks has also become one of my true must-have mods these days.
Be careful with NBT overflow lol, will crash your game if it gets too high lol
@@baseballjustin5definitely. Too many layers of the Inception upgrade can cause problems.😁
In my personal modpacks im always using storage drawers or similar with bridging myself. Reduces the strain on storage drives.
This is a great premise for a video series. Thank you for breaking down each one in a brief digestible way.
I really hope you continue this video series! There's so much about the ATM pack that just gets buried by how many different ways there are to do the same thing.
Sometimes that's fun - like having one person focus tech and another so it via magic - but often times it's just confusing.
Yes my goal is to get rid of that confusion and provide people with the option too chose whats best for them ^^
Thanks for watching and your comment! :D
honestly thats my biggest problem with moderate-large sized kitchen sink packs. they have so many cool mods but theres just no reason to go thru most of them because its so easy to ignore them. it allows you to ignore mods you dont like, but then it also ends up causing you to miss out on many others that would be worth checking out otherwise
Planning to do a server like storage system with a central storage facility, that will branch out to different builds depending of the mods, for example a storage part dedicated to Immersive Engineering, or for all the harvesting mod, or building blocks in general
This video gave me so much ideas that I now need to dump it out on a paper while at my job lol, thank you for that
I'm so sad that Tom's Simple Storage hasn't made it into ATM9. It was really nice for an super early game storage solution in ATM8. I know that it's ultimately not very good, but it was so nice for super early game.

Why not use integrated dynamics tho? It is a very underrated storage mod for early storage management that have autocrafting.
You ranked Mekanism storage but completely ignored the entire mekanism QIO storage system?
only reason i can think it wasnt included was the amount of infrastructure needed, since the main gate is poloium which is only obtainable from mekas reactors
The QIO system is even less practical than the bins lol

Mekanism also has QIO storage option with its export and import totaly wireless. Event its terminal is wireless. Quite expensive but supermassive QIO drive holds 16 billion items of any kind.

I love these no B's reviews of the mods. Thank you for your work!
Very good idea, Enderchests definitely is a Very great solution to move items large distances and cross dimensions especially for it's price, it's valua isn't in its Storage but in its strength as a way to connect various places with very little overhead and hassle,
Especially if you combine Pouch connected to a sorting system that empties the chest you'll have no inventory issues what so ever when you go dungeon diving,
I would recommend applying Filters for things you Might accidentally throw into your Pouch so you don't need to go home, Or get stuck in an awkward mistake,
On it's own it's not much, still better than the Vanilla option (And older than that), but it absolutely Shines when you have another mod taking stuff out and sorting it
Very impressive and thorough discussion of the various systems.
Really excited for this series!
Refined Storage my beloved
Massive amounts of storage, doesn’t need energy to run, completely wireless import and export, hand held storage access etc
he didn't cover anything about mek's QIO system, he only take bins into the ranking which is sad for mek's QIO not to be included
and imo QIO system is a low B, it can replace dim storage and ender chests bcz it can works cross dimensional
the drawback is the production setup to be able to craft one and no fluids/gases can be stored
QIO alongside AE2 is S+ Tier.
QIO isn't a repalcement for AE2/RS. It's a superior replacement for EnderChests and logic systems.
Backpacks can also hold one more stack upgrade than chests.
I agree with most of your rankings
For me AE2 is better than RS but RS is a decent early-mid game storage system. once you begin getting into autocrafting and other more complex stuff AE2 is the way to go.
(Tip for beginners to the mod, shift-clicking a diamond on the chest will link it to you which is useful on servers)
Beyond that I think your rankings are fine.
I rate this video S tier. The editing explanation and pacing were all so amazing, cant wait for more tier lists.
Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers!
It does show it as 10,000?
For me its still 9995, i am waiting all day already to take a screenshot xD
Best ATM 9 youtuber, even if im not playing ATM 9, i still having fun with guides such as Ars nouveau and other
Thanks a lot! :D
Agreed! Always great content on this channel.
The GOAT posts again
Thanks! Took a bit more time this one but future ones will be faster ^^
@@EpicEnchantsi look forward for more guides from you man, they been amazing
Step 1: Equip your Sophisticated backpack on your back slot
Step 2: Right click the travelers backpack while it's in your hotbar, and look for the little image showing steve equipping the backpack. Click on that. And now you have both backpacks on!
Please tell me what block you used for interfacing with the storage controller at 12:18!!! I really want this!
I used Integrated Dynamics, its also in the video at the end ^^
Amazing Quality! Keep going!
Thanks, thats the plan! :D
Great video ! if you use the mod "AE2 things" or "AE addition" you can have a disk that doesn't have limited types of items, with a maximum of 65M items per disk !
great editing fantastic video subbed :)
Thanks for the sub! :D
An amazing run through with very well done video and sound. Please keep up the videos and I could see your channel doing well.
This video rocks. We're just getting an ATM 9 server going and this helps a lot - haven't played ATM since 7. I too have a love of the sophisticated backpacks, up to and including the fact they can play music while flooding stored blood into the physical world. ROFL
I love this series! I have fallen out of Minecraft. Watching your series is making me more and more excited to play again
Dude this is amazing and so well done - thank you!
This is the perfect series! Please make more!
I always want an exhaustive pros/cons of each mod in a pack, sorting them by utility is perfect. Maybe some categories like power, ranged weapons, melee weapons, armor, dimensions, ore processing, plants & food, magic, mining, etc. would make good options?
I loved the video, very useful and well explained
The whole modpack was built around the idea of "I know you like X, but imma give you Y to try out bc it does what X does but in a new way and I think it's neat".
i love everything about ae2, including channels. def in my top 5 mods ever, and #1 in storage/logistics!
If I added Tank Storage into the mix I would have needed to double the Modlist atleast so I tried to focus on the main problem normally have "Item Storage" ^^
Hope that clears that up and thank you for your comment! :D
@@EpicEnchants Functional storage is still the better option for items (tho not fluids IMO) far and away, but I do still make a black hole controller or two for some of the most space efficient deep storage. (or quite possibly the best after the soph storage nerfs)
@@coolbot100s8 Functional storage is probably the best option for fluids it can void fluids without the use of a trash can which makes it S tier as a fluid storage imho
last time i tried the controller it just duplicated stuff lmao
I had a feeling I recognized the accent but when you color coded the Ender Chest I got my confirmation XD
There was a few major facts about AE2 that the video didn't mention (No flak to the creator, missing some things is bound to happen):
Fact 1: It was mentioned that AE2's cells increase their byte count, but no mention of what a byte actually is.
To use the same example as above:
A 1k AE2 cell can hold 8128 cobble or 8128 pickaxes (assuming they're all the same durability/no differences in enchants etc), or 8128 prefilled chests.
Thank you for the video, i never knew some of these mods had storage options so it was quiet a surprise
Thank you! Thats exactly what this video was for give visibility for all these options, the ranking is actually just to add some context and dialogue for the community :D
@@EpicEnchants honestly I don't see how anyone can disagree with the ranking as well lol, it was a very informative video and clearly very well researched.
First tearlist that makes sence with very good explanation!!!
Pls carry on!!!
One of the few videos i've sseen that mentions the omni directional connector. It's such a powerful item!
Don’t forget that with sophisticated storage you can access your storage from anywhere with the wireless crafting terminal. You just need a beacon.
Protip for the Sophisticated Backpacks: You can use the magnet, void, and tank upgrades for a mob farm. It picks up items and xp. Voiding can be configured for overflow or whitelist/blacklist. The tank lets you pump liquid xp out like to store in an obelisk.
Bro those videos are insane !! You deserve more subscribers !!
I've been loving these ranking videos, so helpful keep it up.
I'm surprised Tom's Simple Storage wasn't included. It's really easy to learn, not too expensive, and using Create's Vaults you can get HUGE storage sizes with a lot of variability, while drawers - well they're still drawers.
Absolutely Gamechanging infos for the Storage there... TY!
Thanks a lot!
I hope I can bring that to every part of the game ^^
Amazing video! Only 13K subscriberss?? Nah you're going places my guy
Solid A tier for me on mekanism also great tier list video keep it up
The topic of the video is storage
I really wish you would’ve highlighted one thing; the functional storage mod + ae2 or even RS is a life saver since you can use the External Storage from RS or a Storage Bus from AE2 to access your drawers from the network, effectively downsizing the amount of disks you need to make!
Explanations are amazing, wonderful video! Ranks are questionable, but that’s just a preference-thing.
waaaaaay under-rated content. keep up the incredible work! :p
another really powerful ability of sophisticated backpacks is the experience pump upgrade, which (combined with a tank upgrade) allows you to siphon experience to and from the player, and, most importantly, can automatically repair Mending-enchanted tools and armor. It is _incredibly_ powerful and lets you turn nearly any armor into power armor, as long as you have the experience for it (and XP can get out of hand very quickly)
plus the ability to adjust your XP level lets you get enchants very cheap
Looking foward to your next video, its so so helpful. Keep up the fantastic work!
