I think i saw that if you command the helicopter to 20 feet altitude it will stream the MAD detector automatically. So you can have that additional opportunity for detection even as you move the helicopters around to lay the sonobouey pattern.
I was using low altitude to evade AAA fire. But I believe u are Right. The ❓ is how far can submarine be detected and in what conditions? Because I listen once real submarine officers talk about that and they said , something like that you need to be on top of sub to detected it. At least at that time. Maybe someone have different information? Especially how is that modeled in game.
@SaltyBudha agreed, I believe MAD has minimal horizontal sensitivity and also may not detect contacts below 5 or 600 feet. But if you're flying the route anyways and you wouldn't be laying sonobouys in that area if you didn't at least suspect a contact was there..... Your zigzag pattern there covered most of the forward path of your formation.... Drawback is your range of surface search radar at 20 feet altitude is garbage. Anyways a new thing I saw since last night, I think you can use shift key and lay in multiple sonobouy drop points. Basically just send the helicopter off to do a whole grid with one command!

That's good. Thank you 👍
