The heirs to a family fortune are required to attend a seance at the spooky old family mansion. However, throughout the night members of the family are being killed off one by one.
This is one unusually, scary movie and plot for the period time it was made. All of the actors were very good in their roles, and the movie shows this as it unfolds.Thank you,for showing this film.
I am the MANIAC! I'm 48 and had to be the only 10 or 11 year old who'd rather watch B/W B-movies from the 30s and 40s, Universal Horror and Abbott & Costello, The Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, and the Marx Brothers! lol
The Maniac (the one throughout the movie) is actually one of the scarier villains in 1930s horror. It was very rare having a slasher killer in films of that period.
When it comes to horror films, Bela Lugosi is truly the king of all horror actors, his voice, stare and presence is all you need. Better than Karloff, Lee, Cushing and Price
When it comes to old movies, none are as Groovy as Bela's! Poverty row thought they were making "s - - t" but, they really were making classics of a unique kind unbeknownst to them- selves. And - SURPRISE - here is one it's self brought to us by no-less- than - - - > Groovy Movies! < - - - ☺
My Goodness!! I just found this Treasure of a film 🎥 thanks to you!! A great horror fan here, and for life. Just subscribed to your channel too thanks to this. Please keep up The Magic of Horror. It is TRULY Appreciated ❤ Thank You So Much
DAMN! This was one crackin' little old flick, being buried alive, a scientist being awakened from the dead, and a bizarre sub-plot of a serial killer, which under normal circumstances would be the major plot! ENJOY!
Wouldn't be Halloween 🎃🎃🎃🎃 without Bela Vincent or Boris effective 30 s horror liked the remark. I'd be the first man to fly without wings 😮😮😮 these old movies from 30 s 40 s 50 s and early 60 are so refreshing than All the bloodlettings in all these slasher movies of last several years and no amoral cutie nudies in an out of bed and a marathon of cuss words 😊😊😊
This takes me back to the old Saturday late night "Shock" TV movie on the then WTOP-TV Ch. 9 in Washington DC back in the sixties. They would run this movie about once a year back then and I always watched it. The black and white photography, nighttime scenes with long shadows, spooky house etc., and the seance scene were really cool. I always found the ending somewhat of a laugh to lighten things up a bit before going to bed. Perhaps that was its intent. The movie did mix in a bit of light humor. The detective and newspaper reporter were rather funny. This is one of my favorite Bela Lugosi films, right after Dracula and the Black Cat. He was really good in this. Too bad this film it isn't remembered as a classic.
I remember iShock. I had abattle with my parents to stay up and watch it. We had to get up for church the next morning. I still enjoy these old movies much more than the horror stuff today. The new ones are either people being torn apart by fake monsters or plots that don't make sense.
The heirs to a fortune are required to attend a seance at the spooky old family mansion.however, throughout the night members of the family are killed off one by one! At first it is thought the murders are committed by a man who plants newspaper clippings on his victims that they call the maniac-but it could be someone who wants the oh inheritance! Bela Lugosi was pretty good as the servant- but Wallace ford was irksome as that arrogant newspaper reporter thinks he could solve the mystery and get a scoop-so was that guy playing the police detective! Good movie 🍿 to watch! 😊😊😊😊😊
Good movie, but that black chauffeur takes away from the story line, much as Mantan Moreland did in some of the old Charlie Chan movies. All this does is to reinforcement the old stereotypes and distract from the plot. They should have had someone like Frank Jenks with his sarcastic but jittery manner.
Doesn't politically correct mean we're staying with politicians want to say? My great grandpa used to say if you seen a politician at a distance you've seen them at their best…😂
@@kscape100 Politically correct is a term used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society. iT only applies to politicians when they are BS'ing. I guess that's always.
Yes, as long as they didn't offend you. I love these old films and tv shows, but I'm glad we've made progress as a society. It breaks my heart to see the amazing and beautiful Dorothy Dandridge playing a small part as a maid. 😔
I love these old black and white horror movies

No honey. Your not the only one. I love these movies.
You MANIAC. You have good taste? You FIEND!
I'm right with ya...NEVER WATCHED ANY OF THAT OTHER STUFF Either...horror all the way
Don't feel bad I'm 35 and love old black and white horror movies, old time radio and old Sherlock Holmes with basil rathbone.
That doesn't make you a maniac. It means you have good taste lol
I do love Bela Lugosi in anything that he did- but, I also love the others: Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, Boris Karloff...
This was really good. I greatly enjoyed it.
This is a good one!!
What a fun little movie
Bala Lugosi, Borris Karloff and Vencint Price are the greatest horror actors ever. No spelling police necessary.👌
If they're so great, why are you so careless about spelling their names?🤡🦧

Yes: he was a fascinating genius with a great commanding presence and superlative speaking voice.
How right you are! 🍷🌹

"Come on, compared to you Sherlock Holmes is a traffic cop." LOL
Was a good show. I haven't heard "dumb cluck" since I was a child.*****
Very pretty leading lady loved the clothes she wore
Very impressive work for 1933!!

Another good, old house whodunit from the great old pre-Code days. Nice to see Lugosi as a red herring in a turban.

Brings back memories. I'm 67, originally from Falls Church.
That was a good movie. More please.
Gads did we have fun watching these movies.
The guy at the end was scary - ranking just below a telemarketer.
What a treat!! Thank you!!!
Amazing thank you again!!!!!
I forgotten about the way women loved to scream in these old movies
Because he dropped his cacks
It’s very similar to invisible ghost also with Lugosi both excellent movies 🍿!!!!
He was great in anything
"Compared to you, Sherlock Holmes was a traffic cop."
man movies used to be so good
What a hoot! I love it!
I would have been so happy if the camera panned around at the end and revealed that THE MANIAC was just talking to a cat.
The detective has to yell every line.
He was an irritating loud mouth moron...
Had to tell over the newspaper (reporter?)
Has anyone noticed that Wallace Ford seems to wear that very same hat in many of his movies?
Awesome
So, the old guy is her father and her fiancé’s uncle. So...she’s marrying her cousin?
This sounds like a GOODIE !!!! Ty for posting it
Didnt like the reporter at all..loud mouthed and irritating...the fly in the ointment...

This lovely sweater and these suits are from the men's warehouse I guarantee it.

Williams Randolph Hearst and his partner the occult man try a new venture look around in the dark for Treasury bonds Herbert Hoover lost or misplaced.
Rinehart calls Lugosi and his wife heathens. These movies were so unwoke and politically incorrect. That's one of the things I like about them.

Jeepers creepers Mr. Hearst is dead😮the occult man got rid of him stole his Treasury bonds for beer and a night on the town. 🎉
The murderer was Ronnie Barker
The Maniac was the only one I felt any connection to.

Crimeny h.p. Lovecrafts psychic the occult man from India

This movie sucks buttermilk.
So racist
Right. So is every racist insulting every black actor's work.
