Cold start (on a cold night) of a 1984 KX 250. Sleeved cylinder by Kustom Kraft, bored 0.30 over with a Wiseco piston. Throttle and clutch cables are both new. New air filter. New lower chain roller.

True, A different breed of 2 stroke! no cooling systems. These engine seem more powerful with longer pull thru every gear. Similar to the older 'yamaha it 175' ect enduros. Theyl hit 100mph easily and in a short distance
I have the same bike but its a 125. It wont start but when i crank it a bunch the kick starter sometimes gets stuck in one position and you can get it unstuck. I think its the spring on the inside of the crankcase the prevent the gear from turning the opposite way of the direction it normally spins. Any recommendations on how to unstick it??? Or even to just get it running?
Duderocks5539. 82. Gold rims and swing arm. With fender. 83 gold rims with gold arm. 84. Silver arm and silver rims. Had all 3. Still have my 83 kx250. With. 88 disc rear and going with. 2012 front end but this is def. 1984. Looks sweet!
Duderocks5539, google works on your computer too. Re-google it. It was every bit of a 1984 KX250. I even put the VIN# into kawasaki's website for parts diagrams and guess what it came up as? Yep, a 1984! On a side note: I really wish I'd never sold this bike. It was shipped to Australia shortly after this video was shot.
I'd say the electrofusion cylinder is shot. Given the bike is 29 years old I'm sure it's been well ridden. You COULD get it replated but it's expensive. Find a cast iron sleeve and have it installed by a trusted source.... and you can bore it to whatever your heart desires.
I'd say you'd have to tear apart the right side cover to see exactly whats going on in there for the kick starter. Something could be binding up. I couldn't say for sure over the net. I'm not a guru of old Kawi's...YET! HAHA, soon though. Find them cheap and repair them!
hay bad fish any chance of telling me the wiring loom on the kx250 as I cant work out what wires go where , would be great if u could , just finishing the restore on mine
My first brand spanking new KX250 off the showroom floor. I believe I paid about $2,500 for it back then. Mine came with the gold anadized rims. Great memories, thanks !
Thing sounds mean! i love a 250 2 stroke sound, I have this same engine on a yamaha blaster frame pretty wicked outfit. that looks like a bad ass guitar on the wall as well.
I believe it was only 83' and 84' that had the rear fender/number plate combo. Sadly I had sold the bike shortly after this video was made. I can't complain, It was a great profit. I'd like to find another but I doubt I'll come across another one for a cheap price!

1983's 250 Kawa looks better. The radiator plastics are more good looking in 1983.

The 84' KX 250 & 500 was the last year for the rear number plate fender. The 84 KX 125 was re designed. Owned them both. This is definitely an 84'.

That looks like nice one! Just got one but it won't start. It has 20 compression. What's it more likely to be, rings or reed valves?
