project farm is my favorite all time channel to use as a referance guide , just the other day i needed a penetrating oil and i went to the project farm channel and i knew exactly what i needed to buy ..project farm does all the work for us (thank you ) and we know exactly what product we need for that particular job
It's a Sarah video because: - odd jokes that are still funny - sexual innuendo - complete and utter dedication to the job at hand AND to getting it on TH-cam. Cleanliness, meticulousness and happiness seeing it all come together.
What a great question about the weight you added to the transmission. It is a perfect idea and it's purpose is as follows: When excited all physical things have a natural frequency much like a tuning fork or a guitar string exhibits. The simplest relationship fr this frequency can be defined as f = squareroot (k/m). k is a spring constant or stiffness quantity representing the physical characteristic of the component and really cannot be altered without changing it's shape . The only remaining term in the equation is the mass - m. This is easily changed by adding weight (or subtracting it but this then will change the stiffness so you wouldn't go there) to the component. So for this transmission assembly, without the weight added it must have had a vibrational natural frequency that was "-n- Tuned" with the operation of the truck such that it experienced excessive vibration during some modes of vehicle operation. I would guess that the transmission would vibrate at some vehicle speed like top gear on the highway causing unpleasant vibration. To alleviate this problem the manufacturer added a damper weight to the transaxle to increase the mass and using the equation above it would change the natural frequency and remove the unwanted vibration. In actuality, it is somewhat similar to adding weights to a wheel rim when balancing a tire. If the weight has a rubber component then it is more effective at changing the vibration and similar in operation to a harmonic balancer on a rotating crankshaft. Hope this answers the question. You could even test how effective it works by removing it, going for a ride and reinstalling it and observing the difference. You could even use a phone app to measure the vehicle frame frequency with and without the damper installed. btw Your videos are great!
@@wongway40 I don't think bolting weights to your exhaust system will do much. I think the "drone" sound is 'acoustic resonance' (standing waves of the exhaust gas inside your exhaust system.) Think of organ pipes. No, not your organs... the pipes in, say, a church organ. Bolting weights to them will not change the "drone" much if at all. Making the pipes longer or shorter will change the drone frequency.
The drive shaft vibration damper takes/absorbs the off-balance oscillations of the propeller shaft/joint knuckle combination to reduce vibration-induced loosening of the joint fasteners. Most people remove them when servicing the fluids, and never replace them. The propeller shaft it the only component that can be balanced independently, not the u-join or the knuckle both large hunks of iron that are inherently un-balanced. Thats what it's for. Love the channel.... your quirky sense of humor and content is spot on!
We love every step you take Sarah. Don't worry about slow progress - we're not just watching just anyone do just anything - we're watching YOU DO IT RIGHT - it's important to us! So take your time and BE RIGHTLY PROUD! All the best from Switzerland, Rob
The weight attached to the T-case is a vibration damper. I've heard people losing them and there is noticable increase in drive vibration. Ranger is looking sweet!👍
Sarah-n-tuned and Project Farm…two of my favorite channels. You guys are like Reese’s peanut butter and chocolate. Two great tastes that taste great together!
Sarah, don't stop being you. That is what I love about your videos. I always look forward to your previous video jokes at the beginning. Great video as always.
You do bake sometimes just instead of tasty treats its headlamps :). I think Fred pays as much attention to detail as you do, that engine bay looks superb, going to be the cleanest Ranger.
I never comment on TH-cam videos, but as some others have mentioned I love the Project Farm shoutout. One of the best channels on TH-cam. I’ve been following these Ranger videos religiously and can’t wait to see it finished!
I cannot get over what a labor of love you put into your projects! This is all about preserving a piece of your personal history that will remind you of your grandmother every time you get into it. It's also an amazing look at what true dedication to one's craft can be and can achieve. Bravo, Sarah! You have a unique approach that a lot of people just won't understand.
Yes on the oil analysis, they are so useful and give you information that is invisible otherwise. The key with oil analysis is to do them ongoingly to see any trends. I am sure Penzoil will be on board with that. I have been a mechanic since I was a boy (now 66) and you are a fabulious example for how to do it RIGHT! Be Well Sara.
As an owner of three different second/third generation Rangers, your series of videos are exceptional for understanding the tear down and reassembly of everything, especially underneath. Watching these are better than any exploded view drawings for understanding how things fit up. By the way, my current Ranger is a 2011 (last year of the third generation) and I can only hope my 9-year-old grandson will take it over some day to keep the legacy going....just like you have done with Gram's truck.
Wow, this truck could win awards for the year, make and model rebuild. I'd buy it but I'm sure the sentimental value is huge. Great video and craftswomanship.....
Hey Sarah. Watching you struggle to manoeuvre the Ranger around the shop, the sensible thought says please be careful, get some help, all that. And folk are always saying please rest and look after yourself in here. But y'know, really, it'd be kind of a shame if you did. The sheer effort, time, energy, humour, hard work and singular suffering you bring is what makes you so bloody fab! Don't change. Carry on maxxing it out. It's uniquely you mate and we love you for it. Try not to drop any more exhausts on yourself though, ay. Big thanks for all you do sister 🙏🙏🙏, all the way from the UK 👉👉👉. 😎
I like that this truck is not going to be Concours. Instead, it has a history, but it is really clean. I am sure your Grandmother would be proud of you and happy her truck is being so well taken care of.
I like how the exhaust came out. This truck is gonna be concourse!! I like how you are doing it your own way and not being influenced by others. Keep it up, can't wait to see it run and drive!!
Love the channel. In the interest of saving an eye and nails, I usually remove cardboard staples with needle nose pliers, stab the cardboard each side of the staple, close pliers and yank up. Works every time, and its safe.
The number 1 thing I like about your channel Sarah is, that you do the work right not like another channel that just uses impact guns. I,m new to your channel, and I'm looking forward to your next video.
Your passion for getting things clean and rust-free, even where they don't show, is wearing off on me ! Putting a trailer hitch on my 3 yr. old Civic,...couldn't bear to put the bumper back on without washing it off and respraying it !!! Keep up the inspirational work!!
The weight is to change the frequency at which the tcase vibrates, to attempt to elimate some sort of vibration that was felt in the passenger compartment and/or elimate said vibration to prolong the life of the drivetrain.
So happy this truck is coming back together. Your grandma would be so proud. I wish I had a garage with a lift, it would make the resto of my '85 standard cab long bed go much faster. I also would be interested in seeing an oil analysis (please).
Really enjoying the ranger revival. It seems that you are nearing the finish line. Love your attention to detail. Thank you for putting in all the filming work so we can tag along.
Pensoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic is wonderful. After one year is still looks clean. Does a great job cleaning up older engines and the engine runs much quieter. It also allows for easy cold starts when it's 30 below zero. Highly recommend.
Come on! Get'r done! What a tease! I can't wait to see the next steps! This has been my favorite series since I own a classic Ranger and live in Ranger country.
I love watching your videos. I like your stick-to-it-tive drive and staying on the project till you are done. I wish I had that quality. I'm 66 and with my ADD HD I can barely finish short projects sometimes. Hey, when you were unboxing that big card board box, when that one staple popped loose and went flying, I was sure happy it didn't hit you in the face or eye. Safety please Sarah. Even the simple things can cause fubar. Keep plowing ma'am and keep your powder dry.
09:05 Yes! An oil analysis would be very interesting to fully see how synthetic oil viscosity holds up to conventional standard oil and besides I can't use any other type of oil for my Audi. Just curious to see what you're real world finds turns up, Sarah. 13:04 OMG!!! So cool to see Mr. Dos that sound LOVE IT!
This pick up is going to end up better than when it came from the factory. The sheer obsession this lady shows going through every single nut and bolt is very satisfying for my OCD. And to think other youtubers paint over rust or never touch certain areas of the vehicles they "restore"...
Just a tip...Needle nose pliers or flat nose lineman pliers to grab and yank those staples out. Fast and way easier than a flat blade. Plus you don't have to chase them down when they go sailing across the room.
