Improve you ney skills HERE: bit.ly/ney-course We hope you enjoy our lesson. You can order a professional Ney here: www.arabinstrum... See you on our next lesson. Ney Player: Niri Sadeh
Thank you. The process of producing a sound is complicated. I found the first lesson so stimulating and exciting because I has assumed correctly that the process is mostly governed by the emotions, the imagination and a kind of spiritual connection with the instrument which you can hear when a skilled player is working. Here you demonstrate the octaves and the glissando, two of the most important elements that I would like to learn but I hope you will find time to give a lesson to each of these two methods as you did to the breath and the lips in the production of the basic notes. I find your own explanation of what is happening to you physically as you play to be very communicative of what we need to do.

I wish if it would be possible to give private lessons. And please keep going on doing lessons on ney because every video i am learning something. Thanks
Thanks you very much for your videos. I'm trying to learn to play this amazing instrument and it is really hard to find ressources about it on the internet
Dear Niri, first of all I would like thank you very much for the videos you've been sharing with us. I bought a Ney two days ago in Berlin and I brought it with me to Portugal, where I live. Unfortunatly here it is going to be very hard, if not impossible, to find a teacher for this instrument. So I started watching you videos and I have managed to make some sound with the instrument. One thing occured to me: I was positioning the Ney in my mouth while I was facing the screen and trying to imitate your movements. I realized I was positioning it to the left side of my mouth. So, being right handed, should I play the Ney on the left or on the right side of my mouth? I have seen diffrent musicians playing it differently. Thank you very much!
Thank you for your videos, I was planning to buy a nay and I'm sure these videos will help me to learn it's ways:D So please don't stop making nay videos!:D
I wonder if you could put a ney fingering chart on your web site? I know it would only give a rough idea of the tones but for someone familiar with fingering of other kinds of flutes it would really be helpful to have a chart.
i love this ! i would love if you made a video for "diglees" or whatever to enter the tone, detailed, i feel like that is the most beautiful thing my ney could do if i knew how :D i cant learn by looking at your arms
Can you please do maybe some other tutorial? Maybe one about all the notes. I bought an arabic ney from Taksim, in Istanbul. Its woden, but not bamboo. Has 7 holes. And it missess the 9 nodes a ney should have. I dont know how to play the notes tho. Thank you so much, and keep up the good work!
Hello, I'm so grateful for this channel. One question: I can not see very well what holes you closed and what is the position of your fingers. I never play an instrument either so I don't have knowledge of notes. Can some one help me. I'm trying to know if I'm doing Nevat note right...😂
Hi Niri! I received last days your ney! It's fantastic job! well done and keep on! I got a question for you! I followed your lessons cause I'm a beginner player. Well, I'm right-handed. So I close the six holes with the fingers of my right hand. However after practicing for a short time I feel pain on my wrist. What am I supposed to do wrong? Could you make another lesson of how to keeep the ney with both hands? P.S. I try to close the holes of ney not with the tip of my fingers and try not to put a lot of effort but It keeps making me feel pain on my wrist. Thanks in advance! Like your playing a lot!
Can you please do a tutorial on how to play the kawala and how to play the scales? I bought a kawala and can play it but I can't do the scales. Unfortunately there are no resources on how to do this. Thank you
Can you make low tones (bass) with egyptian Ney flutes? In many of your videos the sound is pretty high, but in some meditation videos I hear arabic flute sounds that are quite low and bassy. Maybe some flute recommendations for low notes or matter of technique?
I bought one in Istanbul . Nice wood and sound. But it has 7 holes on top , one in the bottom and one on the side(end part) . Is it still a ney? Different fingering I suppose?
hI Niri , thanks for your videos , i play hours per day but i don't find the real sound , just a flutte basic sound , have you some advice to correct that , cause i think i took some bad habits in the past and it's hard to correct that . I think you have some student in the same case so i ask you. thanks for all you do
For the Octave playing exercise: Do one change the force of airflow? or the position of the mouth to the flute's opening? What is the secret for this? Thank you
TheElitinas the faster the air, the higher the note. you have to increase the speed of your air. when you want to play really high notes, analyse what your air is doing while you cough/sneeze because in these natural processes the air becomes as fast as possible. hope that helps
Hey Niri and other fellows Just bought two neys, I know its my first day and with the help of tips given by Niri I am able to produce the sound but as I try to produce different notes ,the sound doesn't change . It still gives a bland sound Am I doing it wrong or is something wrong with my ney?
Hey Niri Hope to find you in good health :) I've been practicing but just to make sure that I'm doing it the right way , I wanted to add that there is a sticker on my ney which says "Do" Firstly ,does it really mean its in that note or are all they neys same? Secondly if that does matter,I wanted to know how that particular ney would sound so I can try to achieve that sound😬
Because I bought two neys The other one doesn't say which note/key it is in..but its longer Which one would be easier to begin with? Can I send you the photos somewhere for you to understand all the nonsense I'm saying😁
Dear friends, I just purchased a reed Ney off of Amazon and can play an open tone (barely), lol. I'm having a lot of difficulty getting sounds other than a whistle tone while closing the holes. I play the Shakuhachi and know a bit about breath control, might it be that? Any help is very appreciated. Many blessings.
Hi, I am having trouble producing lower octave sound with Rast & Duga notes, . Every time I bow - I just end up producing higher octave sound for these note - sometimes for all notes. How do I make that subtle change in my blowing technique to produce lower octave sound? Its just my third day with a Ney, and I am lucky I can produce sound for any note now - mostly in higher octave. Your tip/suggestion will be much appreciated.
Thanks Niri . Will keep at practicing long notes then. I do hear shades of different octaves even now when I blow, stopping at one or only producing a particular pitch is a big challenge now. I will get to that point some day. Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.
in big ney like mansur and kiz i should learn on kaba register (register 1 in kiz is B3 in dugah to neva ) or register 2 in B4 in dugah for first time i see your tutor is very lound sound
Well I'm training this on a bottle right now. So the only way to change pitch is to use my lips right now. (You simply can not overblow a vessel flute because then the sound cuts of.) It does work pretty well. But I don't get the persian way down. Which is interdental. (I mean basically you place the flute on the teeth, relax your lips and creat a chanell with your toung. I mean it looks very retarded but it sounds just as awsome.)
You should definitely do more videos!! you will be surprised how many people will be grateful to you! =)

Salam,
Wht is the measurement of nay between each holes and the length of each one.

Зависит от силы дыхания. Есть 4 тона в флейте. Для самого низкого, нужно еле дуть.
I bought one in Istanbul . Nice wood and sound. But it has 7 holes on top , one in the bottom and one on the side(end part) . Is it still a ney? Different fingering I suppose?
thanks alot.......god bless you
Hey Niri,

That is it used for?
Thanks for the lesson!
Really thank you ♡♡♡
Omg I’m start playing flute now

Hi my ney sounds the Same regardless of which hole I close. What's wrong with my ney?
How does the sound I produce is high pitch almost sounding like flute, could that be the ney itself or I just suck at blowing ?
נירי האם יש בעיה אם נכנס רוק לניי? ממש הגיע לי לאגודל, ואם כן מה יש לעשות עם זה? מפחד שזה יהרוס את העץ ...
