Definitely worth going through the oven baking process, makes the powder coat about 10x harder and crazy durable. Like the difference between paint and ceramic. Just make sure you clean out the eye before baking or it's almost impossible to get out after baking, without a tiny drillbit that is. Been using this protec powder paint for about 20 years and just started baking them a few years ago. Wish I'd have always baked them.
Yeah I've been doing the same for 25 years too. I went down to a thrift store and bought a second hand convection oven that I throw about a 100 jigheads in an aluminum pie plate to heat to 350. Then I take one at a time out to dip in the powder, then hang them on a rod to cool. When all done I put the wire rack in the oven on the top bracket then hang all the jigs on it by the hook then bake on 350 for 20 minutes to make them hard just like David O said. I can do a 100 jigheads at a time in the 1 to 3 oz sizes.
Lookup Stardust paint. Doesn’t require curing. More expensive but worth it!
When you bake it in the oven, does it leave some sort of scent lingering in the oven?
A hook is a very small piece of metal and it is tempered I would not be baking the whole thing in an oven regardless or you will compromise possibly the heat treatment of your hooks and that could lead to failure while you are using them
@@mastereclipton get yourself a little toaster oven from like a thrift shop or something and just have it as a designated jig oven
Fantastic information, thank you. This is how i started and now upgraded to shop tools that get a better consistency
One thing to note, is if you heat the jig to long the lead falls off like an ice cream cone in summer, lol
Make sure to have something under to catch the burning lead when it falls :) and i always have a fire extinguisher next to me.
Wow this is just what i needed!! My brother just gave me a bunch of unfinished football head jigs and arkie style jigs because he not fishing anymore due to a few medical conditions. I was thinking this was gong to be harder than what it was. Thanks!!
Thanks! Nice K.I.S.S. application to powder coating. Looks tons easier than the vinyl paint I've tried, and failed, to do.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks.
Will this work for tungsten jigs? Ice fishing
Best Narration And Truthful Facts As It Gets💯💯👍🏻 That’s Why Your Video Is Top Of The List!! Thanks Gor Your Help👊🏻
Sweet can you direct me to who you order those weited jigs from ?
Definitely bake the stuff on if you can other wise paint chips quite easily
awesome video. I have a question. I am starting with making my own jigs and was wondering if there is a way to individualize the jig by adding a name of the owner. So the question really is, can I write on a painted jig somehow? I guess I can use a marker, but any other ideas (like more permanent) would be welcome
What if the jig head it already painted will it still work
Good question, I'll have to try it and find out.
Can you cool it in water when your done ? Or just let them cool by themselves? Ty
They cool quickly. No need for water.
Kind of an off questions but do You think it would be possible to do plugs ?
If the plug is metal, it would be possible, but the coating is fairly thick and might change the floating characteristics . But a plastic plug would melt at the temp needed to melt the paint. An air brush would be your best bet for plugs.
Thanks David. We will have air brush supplies in stock soon as well.
Is that some particular powder paint? Please can anyone post a link where to find a powder? Thanks in advance.
Here you go. Let us know if you need help. Thanks. www.anglerwesttv.com/protecpowderpaint.aspx

If you make your weights look like a rock you'll catch more fish. I can't stress enough how many times a fish spotted my weight or touched the line and darted out of the area never to be seen again.
Your supposed to bake them
It's easy for them small jigs I'd like to see some 300g powder coated
More heat just as easy lmfao.
I've been powder coating bullets for years.... I use a very different method.
