    Kyokushin v Muay Thai...the legendary battle continues 💯
    Akimoto and Capitan both knew what was at stake here not just titles and nations but their own styles were being represented. They both know of the intense rivalry between Kyokushin and Muay Thai and were fighting for the honor of each of their styles.

Kyokushin is the bareknuckle hardstyle karate that is the basis for Dutch Style Kickboxing. It has never looked like what Stephen and Lyoto do and has always looked more akin to muay thai.

    I don’t usually like watching kickboxing. But this I like, because they are two expert martial artists. One is a karateka, the other is a Muay Thai artist. Definitely not just two guys who learned limited moves of the arts “just to fight” in sports competitions. A joy to watch.

      @@frekibodgaedir4893 I don't think it was deliberate cheating as much as just reverting back to his trained instincts when things got hot. I mean I don't know the guy personally, but to do it that many times, even after being penalized and losing points- that's pretty bold even if you were willing to cheat. But you can very clearly see him reach for the clinch several times, particularly when he has his arms past his opponent's shoulders but is holding them straight out because he can't grab him, and then hesitate, and then get wacked because of hesitating. That hesitation is indicative of someone actively trying to fight what their body is used to doing. Yes he took the fight and has doubtless fought kickboxing rules before, but it's definitely a disadvantage. The clinch is Muay Thai bread and butter.

      Eating punches with your face with no attempt to block it isn't "skill", it's pretty bad fight mechanics.
      My little sister, (then purple belt, 14 years old, and about 120lbs) once punched an male senior offensive linemen football player in high school and dropped him in one punch. He was around 300lbs at the time. She beat him with a BODY BLOW to the solar plexus. He later said he'd never been hit that hard by a man before in his life.
      My sister is now a 39 years old 135 pound bantamweight 2nd degree brown belt (They do not promote easy in Isshinryu.) She runs a half-marathon at least once a week and can do it every day if she wants to do so. She can even run a marathon. I bet she could beat either of these guys in a fight. If she punched them full-power in the face it would break their bones.
      How do I know? Because we proved in seminars in the 1990's and early 2000s that our fight science was on average 2 or 3 belt ranks better than any other dojo within driving distance, and the only three people in the dojo she couldn't beat were myself (185lbs at the time) the dojo owners (mark and sherry myers).
      People incorrectly call AKimodo a "Master" of karate. He is NOT a seventh degree black belt, so no he is NOT a "Master". Last I checked he's only a second degree black belt, which is still considered a "Junior Black Belt", not even mid-level.

      @WadeSmith-oe5xd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess they hid my comment. Sorry, didn't realize a common word was banned.
      Anyway, I don't see how you can say that. They don't even allow punches to the face in Kyokushin competition, and if he's so great, why is he getting hit so damned many times in the face? Muhammed Ali had a much better standing guard than either o them, and so does Floy Mayweather Jr. So do I for that matter. People do not land a head punch or kick on me pretty much never. Certainly can't even remember ever being hit by a head kick, because my reflexes and guard were always good enough to either block it or evade it. I mean, if a fighter can't block at least 50 to 60 percent of the punches and kicks their opponent throws, then they need more training and practice.

      @@WadeSmith-oe5xd To be clear, using boxers as an example here is not really fair. There are a lot more potential threats in kickboxing, so using a boxing style guard can open you up to kicks, for example.

Lateral movement(sabaki) and inside thigh kicks would have neutralized the power kick and the step in knees. He didn't employ techniques that aren't unique to either style so that's more about his fight IQ than lack of techniques to use. Petch wrecked him because he was the better fighter.

    If you try to take Muay Thai that can use all kinds of weapons, including ancient Muay Thai Come and fight with karate, look like it doesn't cut off any weapon in Muay Thai, so I feel that Muay Thai now has completely cut off all the important weapons of Muay Thai and there is no remaining beard. Personally, I would like to fight again by the rules. is to use their martial arts It's new and can issue all kinds of weapons.

      Bro, this is a kickboxing match, not a muay Thai match... They have different rule set to follow! If you want to see a pure muay Thai match, go watch the Muay Thai division instead. I swear you people complain too much without even looking at the match type.
      And if you want more freedom in rules, go watch MMA instead. Even a purist Muay Thai fighter lost in a MMA fight despite the looser rules in MMA
