People in the comments saying, "Tyler isn't an oldhead" not realizing he's in his 30s. To someone in their late teens or 20s, that is "old" to them. I got called an oldhead when I was 31 when I was talking to a 19 year old about hip-hop some years ago. Think about the fact that Lil Wayne dropped the Carter III 16 years ago. Might not sound like a long time but to some of these people coming into the game, they were babies when that album came out.
Ironically it was Tyler’s era that led to this outcome lol these same 2010s rappers rebelled against Hip Hop gatekeepers calling them “old”, “washed” & “irrelevant”. They got exactly what they wanted and now Hip Hop is a cesspool of talentless trash and culture vultures are running the game left and right.
I agree to some degree, But the infestation of white people trying to make a buck with Hip Hop is not new. Mediocre black rappers don't even get a spotlight.
Tyler's era at least respected the golden rule of hip hop of talking your shit and your artistry being a reflection of yourself. Ian is the perfect example of someone not being about the shit he puts out there. There isn't any real artistry to what he does, he just imitates some sounds he likes and shapes his image around disingenuousness. P big difference if you ask me
I disagree with the rest of Odd Future not taking music seriously. Hodgy Beatz, Left Brain, Domo Genius, Mike G, etc. they were pushing the boundaries and being interesting.
Most people just want to son Tyler because of the way he came into the game. He would’ve stood on this opinion regardless of how old he is because he’s always respected art form.
Yeah idk if I’m with Feefo bout Tyler being an old head, the mf is still easily in the top 5 most popular hip hop artists out rn with having one of the biggest fan bases in which the demographic is pretty much all young people 💀
I don’t think popularity is that connected to rappers age. You can be an old head and still be popular. Most people would consider jay z top 5 and he’s in his 50s. I knew I was getting older when people started calling lil Wayne old. So I think feefo was spot on. To 30-40 year olds people like ghostface are old heads. To kids 15-20s Tyler can be an old head. Even Kanye and cudi 😵💫
@@Ketsado except the point is that tyler's main demographic is late teens and young adults, those 15-20 yr olds that ur talking about literally make a majority of his fanbase lol
@@nah8780 I dont believe that. Unless you have some sort of stats that prove me wrong. Tyler was like 17 when he came out and was rapping about 17 year old things so im sure it was the case then. I’m also sure the fans he gained continued to be fans and matured with him which would put them in their 30s. Now that’s not to say he didn’t make new teenage fans recently but logically it wouldn’t make sense for them to out number the older core audience he cultivated.
@@Ketsado an artist's age doesn't always reflect their demographic dude, just look at drake lol you're missing the fact that tyler found a whole new audience after flower boy, it's not just the people that grew up listening to him anymore, and even those people are in their 30s by now (max) there's no clear statistics about it except a few polls online, but no matter how u cut it, his audience is young and pretty out there online, they're not the type to be old heads
@@nah8780 I never said an artist’s age reflects their demographic that’s why I specifically said that he was also rapping about 17 year old things therefore the content of his music was also targeted towards the age group that he happened to be at the time. The subject matter of his content matured since then. Even his look has matured, he went from dressing like a teenage skater to a 30 year old fashionista. He doesn’t have the gen z trendy baggy look like these other young rappers. And branding is a thing. People tend to listen to who they look like or wanna look like and who they relate to or want to be. So again while he obviously has to have young fans because I mean you damn near have to in order to remain successful, I’d argue that the majority are still older. But at the end of the day we can agree to disagree since we don’t really have concrete evidence. Also I know you said Drake to be funny but obviously he doesn’t act his age lol.
You reviewed Goblin when it was released in 2011... 13 years ago (and that was his second release). Tyler is at the same point in the game as DMX was when you reviewed that album. (It's Dark and Hell Is Hot came out in '98). I think it's safe too say he is an old head. A typical 16 year Ian fan would have been five when Goblin debut came out.
Thing is a lot of rappers these days are products not artists. Most rappers who make it big these days can't rap or write for shit and the music itself lacks personality or depth. A lot of 'em rap about the same shit on the same beats. I'm 5 years older than the kid in question.
if your 15-20 years old Tyler is a old head. but that has nothing to do with the fact that he's right. even when Tyler was younger he cared about the music and he showed talent. there's a lot of people know who have no desire to be good or put out quality creative music. no one ever got pissed at Tyler for his music it was what most thought was just being disrespectful. but he was always talented.
Since Tyler didn’t even name Ian I took it as him talking about most people that are culture vultures, especially white people that use hip hop (something that was created by black americans) for money and fame, and then talk down on it whenever they achieve that fame and get that money from it.
I am glad Ken is not cool with Mabu he honestly rubs me the wrong way more than Ian. But that’s also because people have actually brought up Mabu to me in real life no one knows this Ian kid. Jack Harlow got some songs I like but he was definitely doing stuff Ken said for awhile.
I turn 27 on Tuesday and it feels like y’all were talking to me when y’all were talking about people growing older with y’all since when y’all started.
First time I hear dude I said the same thing. He's just another wannabe Carti (who obviously is a future and gucci baby) rapping over Lex Luger/Waka Flocka and Gucci Mane beats.
Tyler, Kendrick, Cole, Drake, Big Sean, etc. have been around for about 15 years now. They're definitely older to people who are in high school right now. They were literally just being born. Someone who is 15 now, was 3 years old when GKMC came out, 6 for TPAB, 8 for DAMN. I guess it's the equivalent for something like Outkast for my age. Southernplayalistic came out the year I was born, I was in elementary school during Stankonia and Speaker/Love. But they were still very relevant to me. I didn't look at them as "old heads", just older compared to the likes of the Drakes and Coles who were coming out in my high school era. No one would look at anyone funny for playing Outkast, because it was Outkast and we still partially grew up on them and had a heavy nostalgia for them. But they were definitely not "the times" anymore
It’s ok to be an old head but how you engage with the younger ones is important. I will soon be 30 and def have felt the shift. Jay Z started this whole dopeboy to rapper shit then Jeezy did it then the internet happened and the clip got higher since. Tyler said a lot of dope shit in that interview that he missed. People care more about a YWA who will be signing country in 3 years.
Everyone and everything will become "old" in hip hop at some point. Calling someone an old head isn't taken as a diss by an old head. Just wait...if you live a little...you'll be old too! LMAO! Great discussion as always, fellas
The main consumers and target demographic for most of these rappers is 13-25 year old white males. There’s a reason the genre got so big and it’s because it’s spreads world wide. He doesn’t mind Ian making “future” music if he tried to put his own spin on it and that Ian doesn’t do at all
Gatekeeping Or Embracing. Too Many Mockeries, and hip-hop/rap have to many examples of Vultures(Drake, Riff Raff, Early Mac Miller, 6ixn9ne, Lil Mabu, Ian, TH-cam Rappers, etc), and alot of hiphop/rappers embrace them. i believe it’s both on the media, artists, fans, and businesses for accepting Mockeries and not artists, but this is nothing new mfs been talked about this kind of shit.😭 that’s what makes it funny every year, too me it is too late to gatekeep once a mockery gets so far
Lol, what are they talking about, I don’t think Tyler broke away from that crew because of the immaturity, they were all kids when they came out, and a majority of them have grown and become very successful Earl, Frank Ocean, Syd, etc. I just think it’s natural that overtime as you grow in age you start to develop a different mentality. And that’s pretty much where he’s at.
I'm 36 year old and I don't listen to Tyler .. I have a 17 year old who doesn't like hip-hop besides the mainstream and TikTok stuff but she loves Tyler.
The record labels and industry execs that shoved this plant Ian down our throts against our will, will force Tyler to apologize. Why? Tyler and Ian have similar audiences, young white kids. Because of this, they may value what Tyler said about Ian being corny and stop listening to him. I smell an apology incoming of Tyler hasn’t already
Goddamnit Feefo, NO Tyler is NOT considered an “old head”. The guy is 33, 4 years younger than Drake and Kendrick. If you consider him an old head but not those two get outta here. I understand the way he is saying the fact that Tyler is a voice for a certain majority but nah Tyler is speaking good advice and opinions the only ones that are not messing with his thoughts are people are barely listen to him or don’t even listen to that type of hip hop.
I thought the mission was to live long enough to be an old head right? or do they sell magic Peter Pan shoes (Yeezy are Peter Pan shoes)and we live forever at never land I guess 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Going off of that Lil Mabu point, I thought he was authentic until I saw his recent concert in LA and then it's blatantly obvious his entire image and brand is all a sham lol
I hate to be that guy but Rod is just straight up wrong about the other members of OF. Just because you didn't keep up with them like that doesn't mean based off what you did see that's all their about. After OF disbanded each one was still putting out music especially Domo Genesis who's been the most consistent outside of Tyler. He just not as popular or as mainstream as Tyler but he's has dropped like 4 or 5 projects since. Which in my opinion are straight fire. Compared to Earl who has been very inconsistent. (Btw I love earl but I'm just stating facts lol!) Now when it comes to hodgy idk lol. That dude just fell of the face of the earth. My overall point is despite all the goofy antics of OF. They were real musicians and rapper first and foremost. Just because you didn't keep up with them like that doesn't mean that when you were that's all they were, however you may have perceived them. The only two that can apply to is Jasper and Taco and nobody took them seriously anyway. Also Left Brain was mainly a producer (outside of Mellowhype) and I think Mike G is still going strong.
If y'all to scared to tackle these topics why do them? Tyler was correct yt folks doing trap or drill music is disrespectful and the reason there are no gatekeepers. Everyone fearful to be honest. Missing entire point

I’m 28 and niggas done started calling me big bro and old🥲
Ironically it was Tyler’s era that led to this outcome lol these same 2010s rappers rebelled against Hip Hop gatekeepers calling them “old”, “washed” & “irrelevant”. They got exactly what they wanted and now Hip Hop is a cesspool of talentless trash and culture vultures are running the game left and right.
thank you
I agree to some degree, But the infestation of white people trying to make a buck with Hip Hop is not new.
@@Ketsado an artist's age doesn't always reflect their demographic dude, just look at drake lol
you're missing the fact that tyler found a whole new audience after flower boy, it's not just the people that grew up listening to him anymore, and even those people are in their 30s by now (max)
there's no clear statistics about it except a few polls online, but no matter how u cut it, his audience is young and pretty out there online, they're not the type to be old heads
I'm 5 years older than the kid in question.
talkin out yo ass lmao
@@Bleepbloop123Naw he speaking facts bro, where did he lie??
if your 15-20 years old Tyler is a old head. but that has nothing to do with the fact that he's right. even when Tyler was younger he cared about the music and he showed talent. there's a lot of people know who have no desire to be good or put out quality creative music.
no one ever got pissed at Tyler for his music it was what most thought was just being disrespectful. but he was always talented.
he’s 33, that’s not really that old when you remember the fact that was the average age of most rappers back in the early and late 2000s
I wouldn’t say he’s a old head but more like a mature artist
I’m glad someone corrected Feefo on pronouncing Veeze’s name right 😂

Since Tyler didn’t even name Ian I took it as him talking about most people that are culture vultures, especially white people that use hip hop (something that was created by black americans) for money and fame, and then talk down on it whenever they achieve that fame and get that money from it.
I am glad Ken is not cool with Mabu he honestly rubs me the wrong way more than Ian. But that’s also because people have actually brought up Mabu to me in real life no one knows this Ian kid. Jack Harlow got some songs I like but he was definitely doing stuff Ken said for awhile.
Right message. Wrong messenger. The man who made "Tina" isn't in a place be calling out any other rapper's mockery.
Lil Dicky 2.0
Lil Mabu does not feel authentic and he is not accepted Ken please don’t fall for his pay to play antics. Nobody cares about him.
Oh this is gonna be good
I must be turning into an old head now cause I don’t know who Veeze, Ian, or Lil Mabu is.
YWA?
Yall in love with veeze😂
Yall had the same conversation about Tyler but Tyler as a rapper has m o re reason to say it. It's the cycle
He doesn’t mind Ian making “future” music if he tried to put his own spin on it and that Ian doesn’t do at all
I was today's age when I heard about this Ian for the first time.
Mac miller was nice. He really was making his own beats and could rap. It’s crazy that he went o school with wiz and ended up being a different vibe
I really wanna hear Myke’s take on this subject
Lil yachty is also culture vulture.
There will always be a VANILLA ICE
calling tyler an old head makes me feel old by comparison shit and im about to be 31 and Tylers 33.
I'm 36 year old and I don't listen to Tyler .. I have a 17 year old who doesn't like hip-hop besides the mainstream and TikTok stuff but she loves Tyler.
tyler is and always was a troll but there was real talent and creativity within him so i guess he's opnion is valid
“Yall did this shit”

I think Jack Harlow cares about his music, but he's just not good at being creative/different
If you listen to his old mixtapes like Gazebo & Confetti, you can hear it but with him now he’s lost in the sauce
New heads become old heads, and so the cycle continues. I seem to recall Earl calling Jay Z a mid rapper.
Tyler is not an old head man 😂
The lil rappers were making a mockery of rap anyway
I hate to be that guy but Rod is just straight up wrong about the other members of OF. Just because you didn't keep up with them like that doesn't mean based off what you did see that's all their about. After OF disbanded each one was still putting out music especially Domo Genesis who's been the most consistent outside of Tyler. He just not as popular or as mainstream as Tyler but he's has dropped like 4 or 5 projects since. Which in my opinion are straight fire. Compared to Earl who has been very inconsistent. (Btw I love earl but I'm just stating facts lol!)
Now when it comes to hodgy idk lol.
Lmao Veeze is 29 years old yall
bro, Ian is 19. I think he just aint naturally cultured into Hip-Hop because it is now considered an older genre to these 19 year olds.
just to mention Tyler never said Ian's name, he mentioned young white kids and the internet has interpreted it as Ian
I’m not trying to disagree, because I kinda agree,
But if Tyler is an old head, does that mean the big three are old heads as well?
I think so😓
It’s ironic this take from Tyler considering there’s a Nazi affiliated rapper coming up currently which he has connections to.
"Who the fuck is Ian?" ~ Old head.
If y'all to scared to tackle these topics why do them? Tyler was correct yt folks doing trap or drill music is disrespectful and the reason there are no gatekeepers. Everyone fearful to be honest. Missing entire point
The race aspect wasn’t the entire point of what Tyler was saying but go off
Isn't Tyler 33?
tyler only older den veeze by 4 years
Holy shit. It's gonna be a really rough day when Ken finally grows up and learns about rappers. lol
