- 2023 Camaro ZL1 1LE Transmission 10L90 fluid and filter change
My filter and drain took only 6 quarts , not 8.1 quarts . I checked it twice.
Transmission filter bolt torque is 44 in lbs (2 bolts are disposable)
Scanner to check fluid temp
A10 transmission is a very hot
10-speed transmission fluid temperature must be 167-176F 75-80 C
One person says pan drop takes 8.1 qts
Pan bolts 80 inch lbs
Fluid fill pipe torque is 80 in lbs (The transmission oil pan and fluid level check plug)
Engine must be running at 800 rpm,
8 mm allen fill hole on tranny is 29 ft lbs torque
The Owner's
Performance Supplement requires a transmission fluid change at 15-hours of track time
Awesome! I will keep that tip in mind. When racing I change it every 4 hours of tack time. I also use manual shifting at Road America. Less fuel consumption on the carousel. Love the car! It is a beast.
My 2018 ZL1 with A10 would hang gears on 2-3 shift and slip. Was told by a person that races these vehicles that 1-1.5 quarts over will stop that.
I added 1 quart over and problem solved.
I have been told that Amsoil sells an equivalent that meets all the GM specifications. Many racers prefer the Amsoil as it runs cooler. Hope this helps
Thnaks brother I will use amsoil then
The Amsoil runs dramatically cooler and makes the shifts far crisper on the upshift, and more precise on the downshift when in the performance mode.
You guys have the part number for the ams oil ?
Hi the filter bolts u took out are they single use I read on forum they are single use. I am in UK Can’t find those bolts and I already ordered the filter and gasket from US but missing those bolts
Can you share the sheet please, need to know the sequence to tighten up the pan bolts also torque spec of filter bolts
Sorry to hear you can’t find the bolts. Glad you told me.
Thanks for the video. Doing the same myself now.
You can do it! I rechecked my work since I only got 6 liters out (room temperature 25 C) and only used 6 liters at 77 C when refilling it, not the 8.1 liters everyone says it takes. And I drove it to get Tran temp up to 74C, then required only one brake torque to get to 77 C. Be careful as it can burn you. Not worth it.
maybe also cycle each gear and stay for a min each and in manual mode up to the highest gear stationary. then try to warm up the fluid
Worth a try. Brake torquing was not fun. Best of luck. Let me know how it works out. I am
Open to any methods.
One of the more confusing things to me is what is considered level. Is it how the car would set on the ground, or level the car itself, or like you did and put a level on the trans pan. All of these are different and are going to change what the fluid level would be. But I think I’m going to go with the way you did it.
@@nevadarobert7908 mine took 6 quarts as well. Initially took out 6 quarts. Put 6 1/2 back in, then drained 16oz. after it reached correct temp.
I was initially told 212F but found that was to hot. So that is why I changed. I don’t want the dealer doing it until I know the technician which is really hard to do. Thanks for you comment
All the info I found shows the fluid temp has to be 212 f when the level is checked? Been taking it to the dealer to get changed. I have a 2 post lift, and service all my other vehicles. I use a cheap bug sprayer bottle with a pex valve. Have 2 of them, one for tansfluid, and one for gear oil. If the fluid dom't have to get that hot, I will do a drain amd fill. Not crazy about the dealer doing flushes.
Notes: (1) The WSS-M2C949-A specification recommended was developed by Ford and GM. Products meeting the specification are available under the DEXRON ULV and MERCON ULV tradenames.
Capacity: 10 speed With O Cooler 10L90 Total Fill 12 quarts.
Capacity: 10 speed With Cooler 10L90 Total Fill 13.7 quarts.
Capacity: 8.1 quarts Initial Fill.
I double checked with all data. All data agrees with my temperature. 212 F is too hot. Best of luck. The car is awesome
You have to level it as I did. Why you might ask? The standpipe is why. I hope this helps.
Hi just a quick qustion what is the best alternitive to Dexron ULV transmission fluid
Thanks
The Amsoil Signature fluid as shown in my A10 video.
That is good to know Thanks
What’s the AMS oil transmission fluid called because the ATF signature series says only for Dexron lll and GM says not to use that only ULV Fluid
I am not sure I know how to share the tightening sequence. Do you know?
Nice
AMSOIL SIGNATURE SERIES FUEL-EFFICIENT 100% SYNTHETIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
What temperature do you suggest?
What is the part number for the adapter to fill fluid through stand pipe?
Transmission Oil Fill Adapter for GM 8L90, DT-51190 . ASIN: B0CW2B2DT3. Generic.
Why did you get the filter for the 8L90? I thought yours was a 10 speed?
I got the transmission filter from my local dealer. Identical to the one I removed
Great video!! It’s very important to note the ZL1 and the ZLE use different pans. The side access port is perfectly fine to use as the fill when the trans is cold. I’ve done this drain/fill procedure four times now with over 13,000 road miles and 30 track days without issues.
Also note that you’re not getting full fluid to the transmission AuxHX up front at the suggested brake torque temps.
