He's doing it using alternate picking though. This song in particular is famous for being mostly down strummed. That is what makes Hetfield's playing impressive. MoP and the opening riff in Disposable Heroes is just forearm destroying.

He's doing it using alternate picking though. This song in particular is famous for being mostly down strummed. That is what makes Hetfield's playing impressive. MoP and the opening riff in Disposable Heroes is just forearm destroying.

well that's cuz he put the real song at a higher volume than his own guitar, besides it's pre-recorded, which is a bit disappointing.

For real, the tabs I learned make the intro seem so much more difficult. I can play everything except the fast solo. I would gladly relearn this song with these tabs if I could find them
Edit: actually I think I just can't get the sound right and that's my problem. I can't figure out how all the notes are quite so crisp. I've tweaked all settings on my Amp and distortion petal. Idk, maybe I just suck, lol
You don’t suck it’s just a crazy ass song, there are a lot of Hetfield purist’s out there who tab it the same exact way as he plays it and others who tab it by ear and/or tab it so it makes it more fluid and straightforward on your guitar
As far as learning the solos speed wise once you get the notes down 💯 using a metronome helped me out immensely
