    Hi! I’m planning to study master of social work at the university of south Australia. However I do not have a BSW . I’m wondering if I can get my accreditation from the AASW since the chosen Masters degree does not contain the title “qualifying “ for me to be accredited. Could you please advice me on this?

    • @lifewithchioma
      @lifewithchioma  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Mananjee, I am a bit confused by your question as I am unsure if your question is related to enrolment to study or the skills/qualifications assessment for skilled migration. If it is related to study, you don't need an assessment from AASW to apply to enrol into Uni. The skills assessment is for already qualified social workers who intend to apply for a skilled migration visa for PR. I hope this helps. I have a video about the skills assessment if you want more clarity around it th-cam.com/video/DFC45JW0OvU/w-d-xo.html. Thanks and goodluck!

      Hi Gursimran. I am sorry to hear your experience has been unpleasant. Some people have found it helpful to start with support worker jobs in Youth Work, Disability or Aged care to get a foot in the door. I know it is below your SW qualifications, but no experience is a waste and it might lead to a better job. Don't only look for jobs advertised as 'Social Work' jobs. Read the job description and see if they align with your qualifications, experience and career goals and then apply. Goodluck, Gursimran.

    • @lifewithchioma

      Hi Shreya, thanks for stopping by here. The MSW is suited to people who already have a bachelor of social work. The MSWQ favours people who have a bachelor degree in an unrelated field but are interested to transition to social work. Different schools set their own entry requirements. Some might require you to do a one year diploma first if your previous qualification is unrelated to the social sciences before you can enrol in the MSWQ. Some other schools may be more flexible. I hope this helps. Best of luck with your plans

      Thanks for stopping by Charity. Your qualifications look to be complementary and in my opinion could be considered for enrolment into the MSW(Q). However because an HND and Diploma may be counted as a step below a Bachelor degree in Australia, it might be best to find out directly from any school you consider applying to what program between the BSW and MSW(Q) will be more appropriate. You can also try for the MSW(Q), who knows, you might get accepted. If not, the BSW is also a good option and will qualify you to practice. Best of luck with your plans.
