I feel like every single PSA reveal I've seen recently has had at least one card with corner dings that the submitter swears wasn't there on submission. At first I thought it was just coincidence or submitters being salty, but there have been SO MANY of them that I've lost trust in PSA's handling of cards.
I have been seeing this more frequently as well. I record my sub prep now just because of this! We all know human error is possible but some corrective action has to be taken when this happens.
The Herbert Pink got hit for centering top to bottom. Should of been a 9 if that was the only problem. Great video love the crossover videos, not enough of them out there.
I always think that at PSA, it really depends on who grades your card at PSA. They are so subjective, which leads to inconsistency. For us collectors, we just desire for consistency in grading. Without it, then it becomes just a guessing game. For me, I actually grade my own cards using many tools before I submit them to HGA. The results back are pretty consistent, is what I have found. I have send hundreds of my cards to HGA. They have been grading pretty consistently.
These are nothing but facts! Inconsistency has been the most common issue I’ve heard about them (and I’ve seen it as well). I like HGA personally, but it seems to be an uphill battle for them gain market credibility. I hope it works out for them! Also, smart move on using your own tools!
Doesn't HGA use AI? Isn't a computer scan catching more defects than a real life person. I've graded through HGA and they were tough. PSA is just so inconsistent. I was thinking about cracking and submitting to PSA but this reveal frightens me. Thanks for sharing
I was gonna add too that I just received back a 36 card PSA order back and most were early 2000-2015. In that return I received 1- 10, 26- 9's, 6- 8's, 3- 7's. The cards that could have been 10's received 9's. I too got no breaks or bumps up. Everything went down a grade. Pop control or pissed off employee, it happens to often. Resubmit so they get their money. Thanks for letting me vent some.
Wow... 1-10 and 26-9's is rough. I think grading inconsistencies/lack of transparency are one of the major things that drive the everyday collector crazy... and don't worry about venting, sharing experiences is what makes it more interesting!
I live less than 3 miles from the HGA office. I was very skeptical about them because like most collectors, PSA has been the standard for years. I finally decided to go to their facility and they gave me a tour. They showed me the whole grading process from start to finish, and I was really impressed. I decided to give them a chance and I must say I haven’t had any issues with them. I know the PSA cards will always bring more value, but I feel like the HGA grades are fair and honest, I like their slabs better and their prices are cheaper. I also save money on shipping and the staff are super nice.
@@billyhewett143 - Thanks for the insight! I cannot deny that HGA's service through the COVID period was impeccable! They did respond to me quickly and were very helpful. I just can't understand how I never got a 10 on any card I submitted. Have you received a 10 on any of your cards?
@@WalkerTheCollector not yet. 9.5 is the highest. I don’t know if their grading is too strict, or if PSA is too lenient. I would rather earn a 10 instead of being given a 10, and I like consistency.
Man... I feel you on these resubmits. If you can't see anything visibly wrong with the Herbert Pink, I'd crack it out and try submitting again, either with PSA or to BGS so you can see their subs. I cracked out a few HGA 9.5 Derek Jeter Topps and got a 7 and 8. The 7 had weird scuffs I hadn't seen before submitting, but the 8 looked pretty dang good. In any case, the grading variation is wild. You'll get the next one 🙌
Ouch! That Jeter re-sub definitely sounds like a gut punch! I am considering re-subbing just ahead of the NFL season. The Herbert Pink may not be a 10, but it definitely isn’t an 8.
The final Herbert was very poorly graded by HGA. Of all the subgrades they give, I have seen terrible centering get far too good a grade from HGA. I believe it is due to the fact there is no weighting on centering where front matters more than back (the back looked great on the Herbert compared to the front). It also allows great centering one way to help overcome terrible centering another way (i.e. great left to right somehow makes up for terrible left to right like on that Herbert). So, what you get is the Herbert at like 70/30 centering on the front top to bottom and it kills the overall grade with PSA (who focuses much more on overall eye appeal than technical grading from my experience). This is why of all the subgrades, the one I overlook on HGA the most is the centering because it's the easiest for me to judge anyway and they're terrible at it.
Very true..... the centering was far off.... and I 100% agree that PSA focuses more on "eye appeal" versus the technical grading. Which is why I have come to accept the 8 grade more over time.
Personally I prefer HGA. I have a card I'm waiting to get back from Becket that I might just crack right open and send to HGA. HGA has 2 day turnaround for twenty bucks.
I actually like HGA, but the resell value of some of my cards were far below market. Also I seemed to NEVER get 10s, so I had to go back to PSA for some of my submissions. However, that 2 day turnaround sounds pretty nice though!
Cracking and re-subbing is a big time risk. I have done it, but only with CSG and SGC that got 10’s or green label 9/9.5. All came back PSA 10. I knew the cards Zion chose should 10. Good luck in the future.
The Brady corner damage was wild. They must have dropped the card. At least the one Herbert came back a 10. But some of those grades were brutal. The Burrows were nice.
It depends on what you wish to accomplish. If you are looking for a higher grade, it may be best to consult with a service to review your card before cracking and re-subbing.
Makes me not even want to take the chance of submitting to PSA …they aren’t consistent…plus they should say what the flaw they saw on each card they grade
Dude, PSA allows 65/35 for a PSA 9. That centering is way better than that. PSA actually is very lenient on centering, bgs is hard on centering PSA harder on corners. But, that centering is not 8 centering. PSA allows 70/30 for 8 centering.
No disrespect taken. Good point. Some I sent were to fill requests for my whatnot shows and others are just PCs that I liked. Rest assured that the game has changed going forward.

You know it!!!

Thanks! I was thinking 9 as well, but I have some more coming that I hopefully will do better on!
It's so far off top to bottom, they are giving out 8's for that kinda centering all day now.
"sometimes drama takes time", best quote ive heard in quite awhile. Pretty fitting for most of the PSA reveals i watch too. Sorry abut the grades.
Thanks! I guess one of the best things about the hobby is that we live and learn! Hopefully the next submission turns out better.

I use SGC personally, never had luck with PSA
I am thinking of doing my first SGC sub in the next couple of weeks. Still have waiting on one more PSA package and I just gave TAG a try 😬!
Brutal! I just picked up an HGA slab (de’aaron Fox auto) and was considering cracking. After watching this I’m not too sure lol
I just hope you have better luck than I did!

Thanks! ….but you’re right, I’m still wondering what happened with the Brady!
dasmmm bro, those grades hurt even meeee
Oh these grades cut deep... but you live, learn, and hopefully do better on the next one. HOPEFULLY!
I have a bgs 9 topps derek jeter gold with.8.5 centering 9.5 on corners and edges and 9 on surface...should I Crack it and send to psa?

Yeah. It makes me think twice, but I always keep going back!
That sucks. I would crack again and submit to SGC. PSA is corrupt.
Not sure if I can endure the pain again!!!
@@WalkerTheCollector I hear you. But SGC has integrity and will grade accurately. Best of luck
PSA is NOT kind when grading Brady cards!
Hahaha - TRUE INDEED!
Not legitimate grading company to a legitimate one. What did you expect?
Very nicely done video.
Thanks!!!
Thats rough lol sorry man
Rough indeed... but the wild part is that the PSA 8 is still commands far more value than the HGA 9.5. Still hurts though!
@@WalkerTheCollector good to know. taking notes lol
HGA >
I still have a few HGA slabs that I’m holding on to. Definitely will think twice before doing this again!
PSA don't play. Harsh but fair I guess.
Yeah. Also goes to show that HGA’s automated grading stem may need to be reconfigured as well.
Maaaaaan Leave PSA alone
He’s definitely not a professional grading company top to bottom on the Herbert pink is way off should be an 8.
Agreed that the centering was far off, but that 9.5 to an 8 still hit some kind of way.

not kind.....
Hahahaha - Not kind at all!
