    Ran my 10k virtual this morning sorry I missed wishing dgr good morning, hope everyone’s runs are going as planned. I feel honored to participate as due to the fact my wife of 40 years has been battling cancer the last 10 years and not to go into her situation but research has up to this point has kept her alive. So my deepest gratitude to all of dgr’s participation and of course biggest thanks to Seth for having the foresight to set it up. My sincere appreciation to all as Seth says please please Love Eachother

    As a programmer/ data engineer building a shoe generator based off members selections wouldn’t be difficult. You would just need to build out a database that properly categorizes the shoe (road/trail, neutral/stability, etc). The hard part comes properly maintaining the database of shoes, don’t want someone getting out dated options. Best of luck!

    • @danfsteeple

      Runner’s World used to have something similar. But the outdated issue happened when it wasn’t maintained

    I think a "whats your body weight" question could be good as well for people who are heavier and looking to avoid soft shoes; such as the rebel v2 or Clifton 8. Secondly, a race prep shoe rotation question that helps someone create a 3 shoe rotation based on distance/training plan. I know that's a bit trickier though.
    Another way to bargain shop for shoes is on the REI website via the outlet or used gear section. I've gotten great deals on gear through the used gear store. Cheers, DGR!

    I wish we had shoe stores like that in Maine. We don’t have many, but I have been to most of them. If you don’t have the specific shoe you want in the first 5 minutes they don’t talk to you again. In the last year, you can’t even go to the FleetFeet stores unless you have paid for a shoe.
    I am really glad to have these shoe review videos and running warehouse.

  • @gbaker125
    @gbaker125 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I cannot emphasize this enough: buy old models!! I am currently running in Pegasus 37s that I got for $71 and a pair of Skechers Max Road 4s that I got for $50.
    If you just let yourself be okay with being 12-18 months "behind", and know where/how to search around online and in person, you'll always find great deals. And if you find a great deal, grab the shoes even if you won't wear them for a bit.

    Think that you nailed it on now to approach the best way to narrow down shoe purchase in specialty running shops!! I have been working in them for the last 5 years and when a new customer needs advice I ask them the questions that you stated in today’s vlog to eliminate the shoes that won’t work for them. Going back to question on day, I think a shoe finder would help a lot of DGR make right shoe decisions. May still need a eye though to analyze running mechanics

    Truly it is a vast forest out there. So many good choices. Which one? A question tree would be wonderful. Part of how I presently focus is brand loyalty. Mine is Skechers and Hoka. Between these two brands all my needs can be met. My hybrid is the Hoka Challenger 6. I'm a neutral runner. All around daily trainer and all distances short and long and speeds, Hoka Mach 4(Tweener). Also a good daily trainer is my Skechers GoRun (no ride) 7" My racer/tempo, Skechers Razor 3 (Cloak read Zebra print. Ha!) Hey, those carbon plates are expensive, so the Razor 3 will do. Easy day/recovery shoe: Hoka Clifton 7 and the Max Road 4. Question: If you are a neutral runner, is it harmful to run in stability shoes? I bought the Skechers Forza 4 before I knew I was a neutral runner.

  • @davidmusil4145
    @davidmusil4145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just use 2 pairs of running shoes. Hoka Mach 4 for road and Inov-8 Terra Ultra G270 for trail. It's enough for my 4-5 runs a week, 55km weekly average.

  • @cayenne767

    QD: I love that idea, especially because it would come from a ‘sales pitch point’. I’d also add options like “wide vs narrow feet” flat footed, etc

  • @gregme18
    @gregme18 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    QD: I feel like many of the major shoe brands, including Hoka, have shoe finding algorithms but it would be nice if there was one that wasn’t brand specific, might even make sense to collaborate with other shoetubers to build it out.

    • @donalddarko3676
      @donalddarko3676 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont find any of their "shoe finders" any cop. It would be nice if they had specific heel midfoot and forefoot measurements. Arch height. Gait cycle and then specific ride characteristics. The trouble is not even the manufacturer knows how your going to feel in the shoe.

    Great idea on the shoe selector app! I recently used one at a running shop. They asked some questions but the 'perfect shoes' selected by the app aren't good for me. An additional question that would really help would be "what are your favorite and least favorite shoes in your current collection?". Examples are best.

  • @ryankrause618

    : to me, it sounds like the most efficient way to implement a shoe matching system like this would be to have different types of "tags" on each shoe (i.e. road, trail, neutral, stability, responsive, low drop, etc), and based on the questions asked and the answers given, the right shoe or shoe type would be narrowed down by filtering to the shoes that match the tags with the given answers
    that being said, i have pretty little programming experience, but from a logical perspective, this is probably how it would work. i don't think it would be too difficult for someone who knows what they are doing to create, but feel free to roast me if i'm wrong about any of this

    • @arlandirkson6024
      @arlandirkson6024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Might have to have a look at some last year's models for some long run shoes, or because of my job I can get the Reebock Floatride Energy 3's for £48 which look good for longer easy runs. Currently got road wise: Adidas SL20, Pegasus 37's, Adios Adizero Pro's and I have the Puma Deviate Nitro on the way (they might do for my long run shoes but I don't know yet).
    Just starting getting into doing some trail running so got the Saucony Peregrine 11's for about £80, if I keep it up i'll probably look at upgrading.

    QD: I buy almost all my shoes either from LRS or from Road Runner Sports. RRS has something similar (called the Shoe Dog, I think, will fetch you the right kind of shoes) that helps determine in a basic sense what kind of shoes are suited for you or what you're looking for.

But I think the best way would be to work with Strava, pull shoe data like overall mileage, average mileage per sesh, pace, terrain, feeling after training sesh… than use your durometer tests and personal ratings for the Strava data… it would be the best shoe suggestion based on Some good data!

    Step 1 road or trail
    Step 2 race or train
    Step 3 neutral or stability
    As, trainers like Saucony Endorphin Speed, ASICS Novablast 2, Hoka Mach 4, Puma Velocity, Skechers Razor Elite and Hyperion Tempo are the do it all Trainer.
    Simply, buy 3 pairs of Novablast 2 throughout the year, rather than 3 different shoes.
    Use the newest pair for highest speed or highest impact training. Use the oldest pair for slower, longer, softer training days.
    Example 1 Get Endorphin Pro and 3 × 4-monthly phased pairs of Endorphin Speed
    Example 2 Get ASICS MetaSpeed Sky and 3 × 4-monthly phased pairs of Novabalst2
    Example 3 Get Puma Nitro Elite and 3 × 4-monthly phased pairs of Velocity Nitro
    Example 4 Get VP Next%2 and 4 × 3-monthly phased pairs of Hoka Mach 4
    Example 5 Get VP Next%2 and 3 × 4-monthly phased pairs of Skechers Razor Elite +
    Example 6 Get VP Next%2 and 3 × 4-monthly phased pairs of Brooks Hyperion Tempo
    Example 7 Get VP Next%2 and 3 × 4-monthly phased pairs of Tempo Next% (oh my my my, butter my bread, says Seth)
    (option 2 would be my favourite)
    The firmness and outsole of the oldest trainers will soften through the 500-800mile lifetime.

    Do you record with more than one microphone? Not sure what it is, but it sounds like two separate audio tracks that are done with two separate mics and almost gives your voice an autotuned sound. Not sure how else to describe it. It's not just this video either. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't using a headset. Thanks for the videos. They're very informative. Just had to ask the question about the audio.

    Hey seth, I really enjoy your reviews, but soo much shoessss🤦. Maybe you can give me a little advice : i m a 49-year old marathon runner (3:30), and since 5-6 years a always run on Nimbus (short, long, interval, easy, race...). Now i want to buy 2 shoes: one for easy/interval training/short and one for the long trainings and the race. I really like the stability of Asics, i ve tried Nike, but to soft for me. Very curious what you should choose. Thanks anyway, greetings from Belgium, Frank

    Question of the day.. there are shoe finders on the internet in which you can put your purpose, gender, gait, distance, archetype, etc. There are independent ones, Brooks has one on their website, Hoka has one.

      I love the idea of a shoe finder and, like others, I think it would be great if reviews could be left with the shoe model. I find more info in reading several reviews than anywhere. It seems there is always someone discussing a situation or detail that I, too, am interested in! DGR strong!

    Can anyone please educate me on why you’d want so many different running shoes? Wouldn’t you want to practice and train in the shoe you’d race in? Makes sense for trail vs road, but then I’d argue you should be training mostly on trail (if a trail race is coming)? Thanks in advance and God bless!

    What surprised me is most running shoes don't seem to be available in wide sizes. Does anyone know a racing day shoe (esp half marathon) that is made in wide sizes?

    Hello everyone. I love to jog/run but I have poor eyesight. I don't wear my glasses while running because of the fear of dropping them or sweat dripping on the lens. Can you suggest a brand/type of running shoe for me to add to my rotation? I usually run on the road. My running shoe rotation consists of the NB Fuelcell Prism (lightweight stability) and an Asics Gel-Ortholite. Thanks!

    The way I see things, I'm not sure running shoes companies would be happy to see some of their shoes categorised in a way they think is inappropriate so it shouldn't be of your responsibility to build and maintain such a database. Better if someone like RunningWarehouse did it and why not partnering with them to include "DGR's choice" !

    Shoes choice is very subjugated. It’s rare modern shoes are poor just maybe better for one person or another and slightly better for pace than another and it changes for size too.

    How I build my shoe rotation:
    Step 1: “what do they have in a size 14?”
    Step 2: Repeat step 1

    The idea of a autogenerator is a good idea, but I think just providing links to videos of shoes that fall into x or y categories.
