  • Join us on our adventure exploring the beautiful John Muir Trail (JMT). The JMT is an end to end trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range starting at Happy Isles in Yosemite National Park and ending on the top of Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the continental US at 14,505' elevation in Sequoia National Park. Being over 200mi long it crosses paths with the Pacific Crest Trail and shows off some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.

    One of the best videos I’ve watched on the JMT, and I’ve watched a lot of them. And thank you for the recommendation on the book.

    Excellent Video, Katie! It really brought back memories from Sept 2022 of our accent of Mt Whitney as well. As you showed in this, the views, the smells, the backcountry is something to see for yourself but the most important part of this video is your last comment... Just somebody, trying to tell everybody! Glory to God!

    Great Video. I've hiked Whitney 3 times, the decent is brutal. Would love to do the JMT. I love to be in God's creation, I believe it allows me to be closer to him and to know him even more. "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Keep on hiking and keep proclaiming the good news.

    In case you're not aware. Thermacell mosquito repellant. If you hike, camp or just outdoor stuff, it is a must. No spray or smelly mess. Check it out. Aside from that, great video.

    Awesome video and very well done! I have done a portion of the JMT 14 years ago and this brought back so many fond memories of that hike. When you made the comment about camping at Purple Lake, I was saying to myself out loud, don't camp there! Keeping going to Lake Virginia! Its much prettier there! I know you didn't include it in the video, but the switchbacks after Lake Virginia and Silver Pass were very time consuming! I don't want to keep dragging this out, but I really appreciated the brief witness at the end of the video! God Bless!

    lol... early season in the sierra Nevada can test you. snowstorms, frozen everything, raging river crossings, icy passes and mosquito hell. I gave it up years ago. 😅😂 I still car camp down in the eastern sierra off season but I do not go into the backcountry until mid July. even then the mosquitoes are brutal. got to wait til late August/September for the best weather and least amount of bugs.

    Gorgeous video--with a very mellow vibe. And such incredible weather! Do JMT hikers get trail names or is that just reserved for the PCTers? Why was it that Kevin left? And AT is next?

    This is truly a great JMT video. I watch quite a few and yours stands out by capturing the beauty of the landscape while sharing your positive spirit (with a nod to some inevitable challenges). My hiking partner and I have been tackling it in 5 day segments for the last decade (with a northern and southern extensions). We've been hiking mostly in August often with skies tainted by wildfires. What time of year was your hike? btw - i agree the hike down to Whitney Portal was brutal.

    • @happycamphares5077
      @happycamphares5077  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your kind comment! We started at the end of June and were very lucky in avoiding the wildfires this year.

  • @MrDrDemento
    @MrDrDemento ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Forgive me if you've already mentioned this: when did you begin and end your trail? The amount of snow and number of bugs tells me it was early to mid-July. OK, I read further in the comments: you began at end of June. Still lots of high altitude snow and many bugs.....

    • @happycamphares5077
      @happycamphares5077  ปีที่แล้ว

      We later found out it was one of the worst mosquito years in recenty memory. They were one of the most challenging parts of the hike!

    • @MrDrDemento
      @MrDrDemento ปีที่แล้ว

      @@happycamphares5077 I typically roll the dice for a mid-August start, gambling there won't be any/many fires. This year was perfect; I hit the trail 2 weeks after the 3-4 days of heavy rains. No bugs-no snow-no fires. THIS year.

    • @Henning_Rech
      @Henning_Rech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrDrDemento Was there with a start from VVR sobo on June 5 - snow on Muir and Mather Pass, but nothing on Forester, and not many mosquitos compared to my nobo thruhike in August 2019; no black flies which were even more annoying then.
