I’m not here to defend Seinfeld because having the Bee movie as one of the few credits you have on IMDb is quite a choice, but you guys are definitely sleeping on the film’s impact on the bee population 💀 Everyone I know that grew up watching that film at a young age immensely cares about bees these days lol

Back to Black bombed because the majority of Amy's fans respect her life and her work and we know the people behind that film are fucking vultures. We arent going to see that shit.
To be fair, the best biopics are the ones that don't consult with the family at all. It mostly bombed because Winehouse's place in the culture nowadays isn't as strong as other musicians who received biopics.

Happy for the video versions. Great episode with insightful guest. The passion for the topics, and the chemistry, are quite engaging. I’m in my 50s now and love hearing the perspectives of the new generation. Keep it up.

Seinfeld is a legend of the industry/comedy, but honestly has always been a hack, and an asshole, most of his fame and acclaim is thanks to Larry David, while his standup is pretty infamously dull, and his behaviour and opinions pretty awful and egotistical. It kind of sucked the air out of the pods - not exactly re-listenable ones (& a lot of Midnight Boys stuff ages well because they're funny & insightful) But I wouldn't want Charles to change just to suit my ears.

Unfrosted / Jerry - I love the guy,..and I totally get what they were going for. He’s been open about the genesis of the idea. Nothing wrong with taking a wacky premise and throwing it at the wall as a writing exercise but they didn’t get the tone to land properly. He frequently mentioned The Right Stuff as a story structure but cast wise it was more of a Mad Mad Mad World, which could have / should have worked better. Is he out of touch? Probably,… he’s 70,… I don’t know many that aren’t to a point. I wish it had been better. And I agree about the Mulaney appearance,… too coy / dismissive. Bummer.
I went out to see Back to Black last night after having listened to this pod & you guys are spot on about a lot of the issues, but I thought the film wasn’t really bad overall, just not great. I thought Marisa Abela was lovely as Amy Winehouse, i thought she killed it.

Krasinski’s whole career is marked by projects where he doesn’t seem to understand how he comes across on screen. Office Jim worked because it was an ensemble sitcom, but his character is really mean and sort of creepy in that too; but it’s not trying to be serious. He makes a quiet place and casts himself as the hero dad - it just seems like a vanity project. He does the Jack Ryan show and seems like a psychopath in his adorkable portrayal of the CIA, etc. (That show is especially offensive because it is an explicit ploy to launder and soften the CIA’s reputation by depicting it as doing the exact opposite of what it did in real life. For example, season 2 of Jack Ryan is about the CIA supporting a center left liberal feminist activist in a presidential campaign against an incumbent right wing strongman, when in real life they did the opposite and would have assassinated such a character. Look up operation condor.)
i don't get this doom and gloom?? yeah - unfrosted and b2b suck and are unnecessary but we got Fall Guy and Apes this month, are getting Furiosa and at least IF is interesting

He’s a piece of work. Just listened to him talk about Baby Reindeer on the Prestige TV podcast, say generally positive things about it and give a 3 out of 10 rating. WTF?! I didn’t love it myself, but giving it a 30% score was ridiculously harsh.
