Excellent tutorial, Kathryn. I found your channel while searching for a tutorial on "Look At Miss Ohio." Loved that tutorial, and this Angel from Montgomery one, too. As a beginner (who's been a bit stuck for a while), I especially like your advice on strumming. You help us keep it simple while still sounding musical. I even think that, the way you arrange it and notate it, I may even finally make progress on singing and playing at the same time, which vexes me! :). Aside from the basics of just vocalizing the lyrics, I found your explanation of "finding the pitch" fascinating, but I didn't follow it all. If you're ever looking for ideas for videos (I'm sure you're busy and have a million ideas, but I'm chiming in anyhow), I'd love a video just on the topic of finding the pitch. Haven't seen that covered in any other uke videos. Thanks! I'm a new subscriber!
Bob - first of all, thank you for taking time to write this, I always love hearing how people have found me, and it's awesome that you were seeking out Look at Miss Ohio. Second, I am overjoyed to hear that my advice on strumming has helped you perhaps get unstuck - that made my whole day and then some! As a ukulele teacher who focuses on singing (and in fact is a singer...), I love encouraging others to sing along as they're playing. I've gotten a handful of other requests for a video on starting pitch, so I will definitely release a video on this soon! Let me know any other topics you'd like me to cover as well, anytime. Very happy you are here, thanks for subscribing!!
P.S. Do let me know if you make some progress with singing and playing!! I have a new series of Easy Kids Songs where the focus (one of them) is singing while playing- if that sounds helpful to you, definitely check it out. 😊
@@UkuleleWineTime Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Kathryn. I'm excited about your series of kids songs. After about 18 months of learning via TH-cam, I've come to wish I'd spent more time early on learning/practicing fundamentals with kid songs. I suspect I'm not the only one that rushed passed the basics in order to try to play folk/pop - stuff I always wanted to play. A scattershot approach probably works for some people, but I've realized that I glossed over the basics, plus have been slowed because my learning isn't progressive (i.e. building on what I've already learned), if that makes sense. Your kid series comes at the perfect time for me. I'll keep you posted. (Sorry for the long post!)
Building a strong foundation is what it's all about! I love how you stated it here. It's easy to gloss over the basics, but the work really pays off in your own artistry once you begin working on more complex songs. My improv teacher at UNT- Mike Steinel - would always say - you can't build a skyscraper on sand!
This is maybe the most informative and best tutorial I've ever seen. I was just looking for the chords, I've been playing a while and can usually get a song with just its chords, but this was really great.
Thank you so much! Yes - I do have a PDF chord & lyric chart to print. It's available on Patreon here: www.patreon.com/posts/angel-from-pdf-82672704 I put a lot of time and care into my charts! 💕
Hey Sanjay, so sorry for the delay in my reply! So it sounds like you are in the key of Eb if your first two melody notes are Bb to G. If so, the chords I IV and V chords would be Eb, Ab and Bb. I would recommend moving it either up a half step to the key of E (chords would be E, A and B) OR down to the key of D (chords would be D, G and A). D would be easiest on the ukulele! Let me know if that makes sense. If you want a deeper lesson on that, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/TMCPzK1tARI/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps! 😊
Because of the combination of uke and wine i wanted to cut to the end when you're rolling around on the floor, drunk shouting "PLAY THE FUTTIN' SONG Y'BASTARDS!!"

Love this! Thanks for sharing that - I put a lot of thought into my tutorials, and I'm so happy you got a lot out of it. Hope you enjoy playing it!! ✌
@@UkuleleWineTime I did enjoy playing it! If only I could sing I'd have something.
Love your style of teaching. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much - happy to hear! ☺ 🎵 And you're so welcome!
i wish you had a part of the video with the lyrics and the chord over the song on a whole page :) great video though!!

Great teaching! Thank you!
Thank you so much Joseph!
Thanks!
Hi Ann, thank you for the gift, much appreciated!! I hope you enjoy playing this song, it's truly one of my favorites. 😊🎵
Working on this. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! You're very welcome
Fav song of mine!❤❤❤
It's one of my favorites too! 😊
Thanks for a great lesson. For the beginning, "I am an old woman", I sing my "I" at Bb and the "am" at "G" or "G#". How should I play that on my uku?

Haha oh no!! We try to keep it classy over here at Ukulele Wine Time, one glass of wine and I'm good 😅
Not playing just talk.
.
This isn't a complete sentence so I don't fully understand what you're trying to communicate. I hope you're enjoying learning to play ukulele!
