You help me so much. I am determined to learn to play well enough to enjoy the experience of making music!!! This ole dog is gonna learn new tricks! (I'm 74)
I'm loving your channel! I'm definitely just beginning on the ukulele- just had it for two weeks- and I love that there are so many fun directions to take. Thanks for covering this song- the strum pattern is great.
Julia Bonnheim Thanks Julia, it is really impressive that you can nail this one just after two weeks! You should try and play our version of Hurt by Johnny Cash, if you like this strum pattern you will love that one. If you go to tenthumbspro.com and click Ukulele all the lessons are organized by artista making it easier to browse. Thanks for watching and have fun learnin to play this wonderful instrument. Let us know if you have any doubts or questions.
Thanks Peter. I am going to a BBQ tonight with five German friends of mine, very good people. I would love to come see your beautiful country someday. If you haven't checked out the channel we have a ton of other songs, too, to help you through the learning process. Saludos desde Buenos Aires!
+Eli tejada Binge my friend! Binge! If you go to tenthumbspro.com and click Ukulele we listed all our lessons alphabetically by artist so you an binge responsibly! Take care and thanks for watching.
Excellent to hear! How is the Ukulele scene in Australia? My reports say that it is my third most popular country for videos after the UK at two and USA at one. Are you in a Ukulele group or anything? Anyways, thanks for watching and cheers to you, too!
Yes I am in a group and the scene in Australia is growing fast. Check out these, www.thesumoftheparts.com.au. " The Melbourne Ukulele Festival"; Well worth a trip Downunder!
TenThumbs Productions Yep,It's not as good as yours, but i'm quite happy with it.It's a Makala Tenor MK-T(80$),it's not the best uke,but it's an improvement of my soprano ukulele (20$)
Thank you John. It seems to have been really well received so we will try to keep that in mind moving forward and make the most quality lessons that we can and continue to improve. Thanks for the positive feedback and thanks for watching, hopefully we can keep making quality material that helps you learn!
I love your video's man! You really helped me develop my uke skills. I became a patreon yesterday :-) Thank you for all your effort you put in the video's!
That is a huge complement and I don't take it lightly. Thank you very much for the kind words and thank you for watching. Hopefully we are helping you make some progress. One of my favorite parts about doing this is hearing where everybody is from, where are you learning from Paul?
+Loana Guedes Obrigado Loana. Que bom que você gostou. You are one of my susbcribers on instragram right? I am learning portuguese! Any good songs I should check out outside of Bossa Nova? I listen to a lot of bossa nova but I want to know what else is popular right now in Brazil.
+TenThumbs Productions Yes, I am =). You're doing very well with portuguese. Personally, besides bossa nova, I would recommend MPB (try "Não vá embora" by Marisa Monte; "Coração Bobo" by Alceu Valença) and Forró/Xote ("Xote dos Milagres" by Falamansa; "Vida do viajante" by Luiz Gonzaga).
Hey, could you do a uke lesson for Zac Brown Band Where the boat leaves from?. Thanks for all the lessons!, I wouldnt be playing the ukulele without you. Thought it was only for reggaish type songs but I was suprised that rock and other genres sound sound pretty good on it to.
I just bought my first ukulele and i am afraid to tune, because i dont know if strings are to tight, can i broke something? and when i strum it sound so much difrent than yours..
They can be to tight, but it would be very very very tight, you'll have to tune it. Any friends at school that can show you the first time? Electric tuners help.
Hahaha, I broke one of my strings when i was tuning it late at night, wasnt paying attention, if it ever happens strings are cheap, and super easy to restring.
I just played through it and it sounds great, but you gotta get that 2nd fret of the low G string on that A7 to keep the bass nice and tight. Cheers and thanks for sharing, I had fun with it.
Hey Tim! Great question. I still play my Luna a lot, when I travel and I can only take one I take the Luna. I usually have my Luna in an alternate tuning when I am home trying to create something new, open C, down a half step, a shotty atempt at DADGAD, so I usually don't just grab it. That is the real big reason, the other reason I I really love soprano Ukuleles and my Luna is a concert, most people really love the bigger Ukuleles, like the tenors, but I think the smaller the Ukulele the more it sounds like an "ukulele," I don't know if that makes sense or not. I still love the Luna though!
Amazing tutorial! But I have a problem with changing the chords, I mean I guess it's pretty basic thing, but when I change from G to F i'ts really hard, my whole hand needs to change position..and how do you hold the neck of the ukulele... I know it's weird and stupid, but what am I doing wrong and how to fix it ? I basicallly have problem with changing chords fast and not smashing my fingers like an idiot :D
Hahaha, it takes time. The principal thing is not to really worry about it and know that it takes time. Another good way to practice it is to just change on the first beat of the song so you can change them low. We are getting ready to do a Fleetwood Mac song here that is just a G and an F chord, really good practice to change between the two. It really just takes time. Sometimes just practice changing and strumming and don't worry about the song. Hope that helps!
Rip... not specificity for this song... but most songs because I’m young my hands are to small for things like bar chords or other things... any tips???
I swear I feel like on every video tutorial I see on TH-cam the chords sound different. I keep tuning my uke again and again but it keeps sounding different from every next one I open up. Is it possible that TH-cam distorts the sound to make the chords sound different than they would in real life?
Yeah, I play a low G too, based on some surveys and limited study we have done less than 1% of our students have a low G though, but you are totally right. Songs like "The Joker" by Steve Miller we did with both a low G and a high G to illustrate that point. Thanks for the tips, you are totally right too, this song would sound great with a low G!
Let me tell you a little story. I belong to a ham radio club. At one of the meetings, a member mentioned that he thought he'd like to learn to play a ukulele, that was all he said about it. I took the thought home with me, because as a player of stringed instruments, I thought I'd do some research to present to him at the next meeting. I went to forums, manufacturers' web sites, and TH-cam. On YT I found Honoka & Azita, plus Jake Shimabukuro. I was fascinated by what I had seen and heard - no hula gals dancing to strumming Samoans, but REAL music of very high quality. So, Amazon introduced me to a Lohanu uke. Then I bought a bigger Lohanu (tenor) uke. Then I visited a uke store in Fort Lauderdale, tried about half a dozen ukes and bought a very nice Kala KA-SRMT-TRI, and my latest acquisition is a Kanilea K2T. All this because someone else spoke very briefly about a ukulele. All this occurred within a four month period, BTW. Am I smitten? You betcha!
You help me so much. I am determined to learn to play well enough to enjoy the experience of making music!!! This ole dog is gonna learn new tricks! (I'm 74)
I love it! You'd be one of our older students, keep me in the loop, I want to know how your progress goes!
Dogstarbrite how's your progress?
Ye got a couple on me, dodger, but with ye musically.

Your welcome JonJay, happy it helped you man.
Thank you very much l like your channel! Could you attach a file with tabs for each lesson
You can get tabs through our Patreon service. Link in the first pinned comment.
Which model are you playing? Is it a Luna High Tide Exoctic Mahagony or Koa with preamp? Mahalo! :)
I've just cracked this with a low G-
Dm off fret 5
C off fret 3
Bb off fret 1
A7
Gaining root movement in the bass
Enjoy
I just played through it and it sounds great, but you gotta get that 2nd fret of the low G string on that A7 to keep the bass nice and tight. Cheers and thanks for sharing, I had fun with it.
great tutorial still struggling with my strumming
+Geraldine OB This strum pattern is very unique, it will take a little time but a little bit of practice daily and it will get easier and easier.
Nice one thx... Which ukulele are you using? Is it a tenor or concert?
Concert.
Thanks man very good tutorial !! i think the timing is a little off though !!
It's just kind meant to be the skeleton. Ol' Ray Ray has a lot of inflection going on that the Piano brings to the table.
I have a question, do you use a ukulele soprano or concert? I don't really know the difference...And this tutorial is really good for a beginner!
This one is a concert, they are the most versatile and what I would recommend to someone who wanted to own just one Ukulele.
I am new to the uke, your lessons have helped me a lot. 1 Question, why do you switch from the Luna to the Martin??? Just curious.
Hey Tim! Great question. I still play my Luna a lot, when I travel and I can only take one I take the Luna. I usually have my Luna in an alternate tuning when I am home trying to create something new, open C, down a half step, a shotty atempt at DADGAD, so I usually don't just grab it. d0ndy th-cam.com/video/MXiYacQK55Q/w-d-xo.html Know you will be a pro of the F to G change!
Thank you!! You remembered me haha ;d Thank you very much!!
My pleasure :)
Rip... not specificity for this song... but most songs because I’m young my hands are to small for things like bar chords or other things... any tips???
Yeah, but how does the singing go along with it? These are the same chords as stray cat strut and I keep reverting to that!
another great tutorial!! btw I cant find your fb page..
Thanks for tuning in again Matt and the kind words. Here is the link to the facebook page, check it out. facebook.com/tenthumbsproductions
so do you have this tablature posted anywhere?
I swear I feel like on every video tutorial I see on TH-cam the chords sound different. I keep tuning my uke again and again but it keeps sounding different from every next one I open up. Is it possible that TH-cam distorts the sound to make the chords sound different than they would in real life?
The original song is played in A flat minor, not A minor like this version. He changed the key because the chords are harder in the original key.
Is there a PDF on Patreon?
i love this song but my E7 sounds far too high. it just sounds off. what might be the problem?
+Mai Chan Try an E major and it will be harder, but it will sound more like the original recording.
+TenThumbs Productions thank you so much!
What kind of tuning you use?
Giacinto Giacinto GCEA, the kind of standard tuning for modern Ukulele.
thanks
The last one is lowkey easier than the intermediate one
I like your instructionals.
One thing though, this tune, and many others, would benefit from a LOW G string in lieu of a HIGH G string.
Mahalo Mike

BTW- I play only solos, like Jake, but he is light years ahead of me, for sure.
Stray cat strut? Sounds identical to me. Just change tempo
where's the tap you mentioned?
Why do I want to sing “ the cat came back the very next day”???
Hard to playy
True, but not impossible, stick with it and you'll get it.
Bravo, but just a remark, very much echo about voice.
Budget was pretty low, we have made an effort to reduce that with our newer videos.
@@TenThumbsProductions i think it is causing by the
room.
@@123leooel1 Correct, but I left that room in 2015. This video is about 5 years old.
You should at least sing the song once for us to have a feel of yr lesson, like what Zen and UKULELE Mike did. Thank you.
