Ahhh, Lindsay, you made me miss my Blossom kitty so much. Unlike your cat, she was a black and white Tuxedo cat, but she had beautiful long fur. While you were painting your cat's fur, I could immediately remember how it felt to stroke her little head and rub my fingers through the fur on her sides. She's been gone for a double handful of years now, but you made me feel close to her again. Smiling through the tears...... Thank you so much!
I love the way the cat came out. I love working on black paper and canvas as I feel that the paintings always look stunning with very little effort. Love to see you do a butterfly 🦋 or dragonfly on the black paper.🙂
great job Lindsay, the kitty's face turned out great, very expressive. The rest of the painting is so lively!! Love it. I vote for the butter/dragon fly idea
Love your fluff ball! I had a wonderful Norwegian Forest cat from the local animal shelter in Alexandria, Virginia. Oliver was a year old when I found him, and he lived till 16 (9-23-15). He was like a big teddy bear, and never failed to make me lol! The black paper is really striking with the gouche paint. Look forward to seeing more paintings done this way. Have a great week! Best wishes, Dianna (and Grayson, peering over my shoulder) This painting is definitely "the cat's mewow!"
I am always amazed at how you pile color upon color. As I watch, lots of times I think "what the heck is she doing?" and then as you continue to work it comes together. I would like to be able to do that. I don't always like the spattering, but it seems to work in this case. Working on black or colored paper is a lot of fun. Thanks for all your hard work and videos.
Lindsay, this is a gorgeous painting and I appreciate that you introduced us tothe black Watercolour paper. As usual, we can't get the sample kits of this black watercolour paper in (Alberta) Canada but when I contacted the company directly they very generously offered to send me a sample 8 x 10 peice to try. I think it will end up being a go-to for me because I love using my rich bright Qor watercolours and the black is a wonderful contrast for the depth. Thank you for always being such an oracle of great information to those of us in the new west! 🤠
What a wonderful painting, we have a Maine Coon kitty, right now he's way out of proportion, he's not even two yet and is forty inches long, not including his tail, and he weighs sixteen pounds, we also got him from a shelter, love love love your painting, I like both, the dragon fly and butterfly, so I would be happy with either one, 🐾🌻
Love your Kitty. Just got my Arteza gouache set and am anxious to try. Haven't played with gouache before so this video was very helpful. Thanks Lindsay. Watch all your videos and have narrowed my search for the mediums I want to concentrate on and am making improvement so fast; watecolors and acrylics. Just retired so get to play n love my time for me!❣️
Love this! It's good to know that quache works so well on black paper. Your idea about using a butterfly or bug mask, sounds awesome. I hope I don't miss that experiment.... Thanks for sharing! :-)
Liked your final painting and was very surprised at how easily you were able to lift the gouache from this paper. i think getting a good result on black paper is quite hard so you have a great result there, and the loose style mixed with some detailed work suits it well.
Yes, please follow through with your butterfly idea. This paper reminds me of those art projects in grade school, but in reverse. The one Where you take crayons 🖍 and you press down really hard so that it is really waxy, then you cover all the crayon colors with black paint. When it drys you scratch away the paint so you’re left with this rainbow effect peeking through. This got me to thinking maybe you could do a cityscape with a rainbow above 🌈 . Remember this is just a thought, please do want you want. Maybe my thought inspired other ideas 💡.
What a gorgeous cat! I have to say, I was a little disappointed that it wasn't YOUR cat you were painting. I hope she's not jealous! LOL! I would LOVE to see the dragonfly in metallic. Or a hummingbird! Thanks, Lindsay!
I really appreciate you showing your mistakes & how to push through and fix it. Thanks so much, I love the way it came out and will have to try that black paper, it looks fun.
Thanks for showing us your painting on the black paper. It has a dramatic look! I love your idea of doing the dragonfly! That would be fun! Thanks again.🤗
Hi Lindsay, I really love your videos, I agree with someone else that said about leaving any mistakes you make in the video and showing us how to fix it. I mainly work in soft pastels but started out in water color and am getting back to it a little more also want to mix it with pastels and colored pencils. I'm going to try making some Christmas cards with your idea from the video using small stamps and a single letter. You used P for your mom and then added the small peg stamps, that was really nice. Oh the Idea you had for the spatter around the butterfly sounds kool. Take care. Deb
This is GORGEOUS. I especially love how the body dissolves into splatters. Please do a tutorial if you do the butterfly one. I donate my art to the local animal rescue to raffle off, and I think this type of painting would be perfect.
Lovely, thanks Lindsay. Very interesting effect on black paper. Could have stopped painting about four minutes in and it would have looked great as well, just minimalistic. Just enough information given for the viewers brain to fill in the blanks. The silhouette with spatter all around will look great too. Many possibilities for this paper. Thanks again. God bless.👍💜😊
This is my all time fav of yours. Probably as it's the image of my rescue.long haired Siberian Forest Cat..you describe the techniques of painting.long haired cats.. so well..brilliant.. can't wait to try the paper with my P.Reubens shimmer w.c..also..dragonfly..be brill..or Kingfisher bird..in flight with shimmer w.c.please! Thank you purrfect🦊
Hi Lindsay 👋 really lovely watercolor painting so life like and super cute looking lovely shading 👌 thanks for sharing have a nice weekend Lin in South Wales uk 🦋 💞🐕
Absolutely love this. And as usual, Lindsay, I love how you include “mistakes” and how to fix them. I would love to give this a try, going to have to look for a cheap sample of this paper. I also would love to see more animal subjects in your painting tutorials. I know you have quite a few, so I’m not complaining, but I would just love to see more. I think your idea of the metallic splashes around the mask and then painting the center figure, be it butterfly or dragonfly or whatever would be fantastic. Thanks again for another wonderful video.
Nice end result! I have black watercolor paper en route so I can try the Paul Rubens glitter/luminescents, so I'm glad to see how to use gouache on it, too. And I love the idea you put out there for the butterfly/dragonfly. Thanks, Lindsay!
Lovely cat. Possibly link the reference photo? Yes, it would be fun to see you mask a shape, spatter and then paint the butterfly 🦋 or any other shape.
Beautiful, Lindsay! I just tried my first black watercolor paper this week. The one by Van Gogh that has a really dominant texture. It was pretty hard to think up-side-down with the reversed way of working with light and shadow with watercolor. It did lead to a great result, though. I just found your video and I love your approach and the result. The cat's gorgeous!
Hi Lindsey, this is a wonderful picture. I'm curious she said you could print out the reference photo and trace it. I'm not totally sure how that works but I thought you have to use like a window or light box on white paper you put let your traced or what you your image behind the paper and then let the light shine through. First off is that correct and second off doesn't work on black paper cuz it seems like that would be too thick to getting light through. Thanks for answering the question. Have a good evening.
I really love this Cat Painting. It is beautiful!! Thanks Lindsay!! Do you still use your Spectrum Noir products? I remember watching videos when you were using them. I purchased them way back then and still use them for cards.
You mentioned having a set of brushes for oil painting. I picked up some Sennelier oil paints last month at their shop, but haven’t used yet. Which brushes should I get?
Really nice demo! Have been hoping for a black wc paper demo, so thanks! Have you tried acrylic gouache? After watching you easily wash out the edges with no effort, i had to go check out the description of the Arteza brand (so it's regular gouache). Once again, thank you for the lovely vid. 👍👍👍
We have a feral cat that roams our neighborhood that I swear could have posed for your painting. LOL! Nice painting, but I'm not sure I liked the finished one with the splatters on the body. To each his own, right??
Which way of working with gouache do you prefer, trying to re-wet dry paint or dabs of fresh? The fresh looks easier. I’m trying to figure out what to do with my tubes of Windsor Newton gouache.
Pretty cat. Where is the link for the reference photo? I'm not seeing it. I went to unsplash.com and searched for cat and calico cat; but, there's over 11,000 cats in the search results. Oh, I did see one rabbit in those results; but, I couldn't search through all of those cats.
I have certain allergies which make my body go wild like some mushrooms that give me an unbearable stomach ache. But in my later years, I developed a new allergy and that makes me go nuts and it`s the TDPA (Thumb DOWN People Allergy).
Im sorry to ask this here but i am not good on doing social media and i know you can answer my ques because you are so knowegable. If i press LIKE on someone i am watcing, but then do not want to see the whole prrsentation, so i move the red dot to the end of the row, does it hurt the youtube rating of the presenter? I would not want to do that.

Yay! You pulled it off in the end. It's good to watch how you work through problems. Very helpful.
great job Lindsay, the kitty's face turned out great, very expressive. The rest of the painting is so lively!! Love it. I vote for the butter/dragon fly idea
She looks like a cat we had decades ago... 💕 a calico named Ginger.
🧜♀️

Your cat is so good. The eye gets the attention.
Great piece. Really captured the cat. Love, love, love it

Forgot to add LOVE the idea of negative painting around the butterfly!
I love your gouache on black !!!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

Really lovely painting Lindsay!
Very beautiful 😍
Oh this cat painting is absolutely beautiful! 🐾💙 This is my absolute favorite painting I have ever seen you do on your channel.

I have to say I wish I could have this cat. I love it, who knew purple would be a color you would use??!!! I would also like to have the picture too.
I love your Cat painting! I think the Dragonfly or Butterfly idea would be wonderful. Thank you Lindsay
I agree. I love dragonflies and butterflies.
Gorgeous cat! I too have a Norwegian Forest cat from a shelter; he is very beautiful, but bossy and demanding.
This is GORGEOUS. I especially love how the body dissolves into splatters. Please do a tutorial if you do the butterfly one. I donate my art to the local animal rescue to raffle off, and I think this type of painting would be perfect.
I mean the dragonfly!
Lovely, thanks Lindsay. Very interesting effect on black paper. Could have stopped painting about four minutes in and it would have looked great as well, just minimalistic. Beautiful! I don't really like cats (allergies), but I love this one! I think you should consider the FABULOUSLY Frugal Crafter 😁

Great painting, looking forward to butterfly/dragonfly painting.

I love the way you painted the cat except for the purple I feel it was a bit too much purple. Reminds me of my cat fuzzy
So beautiful

Would Ox Gall have made the Gouache flow or is that not viable for the medium?
I just got black paper I didn't know what to do with it but it regular drawing paper from Walmart
Could you do a review on it one day!
Which way of working with gouache do you prefer, trying to re-wet dry paint or dabs of fresh? The fresh looks easier. I’m trying to figure out what to do with my tubes of Windsor Newton gouache.
It's totally up to you.
I would like a print of your painting. She looks just like my cat who passed last year. 💖😊

I adore dragonflies, I’d love to see you do that. I’m looking for one to have tattooed on my foot with Mum and Dad in the wings.

Very pretty! Thanks for sharing remedies for booboos, too.
