The thing that gets me is that the writers turned Alison into such a *passive* character, and that's so incredibly antithetical to her original characterization. Like, the amount of moves she was making just on the day of her disappearance?? She's basically the most active agent of chaos in the show aside from A, so seeing her turned into a background character who seemingly has no agency was SO lame. She should have been like post-A reveal Mona: a sort of dangerous, unstable ally that harnesses her darker impulses to help the Liars when it suits her, but she also very much has her own agenda... And, I guess the writers could have been worried people would think they were just retreading old ground or something, but also Mona is like THE fan-favourite character of PLL, so clearly people liked that kind of interesting character trajectory. 💀
