the uk office was a masterpiece in originality. the american office is just a comedy
Also "grim realism" vs "childish implausibility". Both have their merits comedically, but both also reveal something of the outlook and sensibilities of the two cultures/peoples.
Milligan, he said. Spike Milligan, British comedy god, who inspired Monty Python and pioneered surreal comedy. Also mentioned (Kenny) Everett, a madcap comedy dj/presenter. And (John) Cleese (Monty Python of course) and someone nobody would add to that group, (John) Sessions, a hugely talented actor/performer (RIP) but one who never reached the same heights of fame as the rest due to coming across as a bit of a know-it-all (he did). To me the funniest part of that scene is when he tries to cite three philosophers and can only think of two.
Read a lot of Milligan books.but there was a book about BBC history of comedy when the goons 1st got together & Milligan in small office space seemed unbearable for the others.but in between drinks he would write all day.Spencer & Daniel have done Dave allen,so hopefully Milligan will be on their ever increasing list.was trying to get someone to react to yellowbeard which I hadn't seen since I was a kid.didn't realise he was in it,as was Madeleine khan!amongst most of the pythons were a host of great English actors & comedians
You've got 12 episodes left, not 10. You can't watch Series 1 and 2 and not see the ultimate conclusion in the two part Christmas special! 👍
The original Office is full of subtleties. Unless dialled in, easily missed. Pure genius.
BRENT ISNT A DOUCHEBAG. THE DOCUMENTARY STITCHED HIM UP. HE WAS ACTUALLY VERY FUNNY, POPULAR AND COMPETENT. THEY EDITED THE WHOLE THING TO MAKE HIM LOOK BAD.
So when Brent slagged Neil in front of everybody and got chewed out in private and he immediately told his staff that Neil was slagging all of them was that a stitch up by the BBC?
How about when he had already made up his mind to hire the woman as his secretary because he wanted to screw her? Was that a stitch up? Did the BBC tell him to spread his legs in front of her and try to kiss her hand?
Was his joke about all the employees getting up the crack of Dawn funny or did the BBC edit it out of context?
You missed the entire character arc of David Brent. He desperately needed to be liked. He sincerely thought he was funny enough to be a successful comedian. He constantly made fun of others but always over reacted when he was the butt of the joke.
David?
Absolutely flabulous
At beginning, the guy 'Paul Sheppard' who leaves those messages is the voice of Stephen Merchant, who co-wrote this with Gervais. His Dad crops up as a cleaner later on in the show.
Love the Office and have watched them dozens of times. Never knew that!
He's also Nathan. Oggy.
@@horumgrombo6519 lol yeah forgot to mention that. his little cameo is funny as hell.
@@horumgrombo6519 It's a nice name.
@@horumgrombo6519 Oggy oggy oggy
Just remembered Taffy in the warehouse went on to be Inbetweeners Jay's dad being here just like Jay's dad
I think he could have had is own show with either character tbh
People seem to miss that he's not called Taffy and does not respond to it at all. It's David's own nickname for him and he's not even bothered to check whether its offensive or not.
Googling invetigation 😮😂
You guys should watch (or fast forward) through the credits as there's normally a post credits scene which tops a situation off.
Guy's, wait until you see "Finchy". 😂
The best part is the way all goes over your heads. Especially the guy on our left. He misses the oint of this and he missed the point of Partridge. But he does find things to amuse him that aren't actually there. But that's fine
I'm missing the point of this comment
I think Brent’s incompetence is exacerbated by him showing off for the cameras. While he was probably never as great as he thought, there are hints that before they came, he at least mostly managed to do his job.
"I will not have, her tunnel, bandied about this office, willy nilly." Lol
Remember the woman in this from Not Going Out - another good watch for the first 5 series
Spencer cringes at the bits that I laugh loudest at.
Glad you are delving deeper!
The UK Office is too short; the US Office is too long.
The UK version didn't outstay its welcome - a three series run is just enough.
I like the way most British shows do it..never drag things on just for the money. It doesn't get stale every episode is fantastic plus it freed them up to do Extras, Life's too short, Dreak and everything else. The US one was great but the later episodes were rubbish.
@@chrisperyagh Do you wish OFAH & Peep Show only had 3 series?
@@DavidZ4-gg3dm I don't know what OFAH is and haven't seen Peep Show, although I suspect they (like many UK series) did a three series run then called it a day and went out on a high instead of whimpering on like a mortally wounded animal desperate to be put down like many shows that outstay their welcome.
@@chrisperyagh Well, Peep Show whimpered along for a whole n i n e seasons.
we dig to australia. where the latest version of the office is apparently being released this year sometime.
Only took 20 years to get down under.
You're missing the closing credits 😮
Lol I bet this actually feels like archeology to Americans, bless them ❤
Spike Milligan the godfather of the absurd and the ridiculous - highly recommend reading his war memoirs
10:38 you missed that.
Great video nice to see Mr Bill Bailey’s cap collection
Imagine tho, tuning into this in 2001. You'd believe its real. No wonder it was critically acclaimed but a viewership failure
Until series 2 lol, which I absolutely LOVE. The Xmas Special(s) are a work of art!
That literally was me. Was ill and getting serious FOMO as all my mates were up the pub on a Friday night (think I was 17 or 18). Tuned into this and couldn't figure it out. Spent the whole next week telling everyone at school about it. No one cared!
The women who plays Jenny, Brent's boss is very beautiful. 😘
He said Milligan as in spike Milligan old skool comedian … dead now
And they have experienced a very small bit of Spike Milligan in Monty Python's Life of Brian, he played the follower who was left on his own giving a small speech when all the others took their shoe off and chased after Brian. And if they haven't seen the 1973 movie The Three Musketeers (sacrilege if they haven't) he plays Raquel Welch's husband and d'Artagnan's landlord. That should be US centric for them as they wouldn't have seen his TV shows.
RIP Spike Milligan
"I told you I was ill"
RIP Keith
Daniel, I thought you looked familiar. OMG I've watched your Nightwish reactions on your channel. Dude, you're a legend! :D
You need to check out a song done by Brent called equality Street, you will cry with laughter. Keep up the good work :)
he really googled invetigation 😂
Also please please watch "best you'll never walk alone" but watch the hillsboro disaster first, soooooo moving, please do it
These two just don't get it
even the obvious bits, like Gareth closing his phone as soon as he answers... not even a smile.
These two are terrible, worst reaction
Watch Spike Milligan receiving an award
I think there's post credit scenes in The Office.... they're minor though
There's one involving Finchy that isn't minor lol

I worked for someone like this he was insufferable on his birthday I ordered 2 strippigram ladies he almost shit himself the office had a lot of women they all cheered I know thanks for this it is so well done ❤😂
Weird seeing the modern BBC logo attached to something that's not woke.
