I am swabian from south west Germany...i have understood every word.
It is fascinating to see a hungarian grandpa speaking a variation of my dialect

I'm from central PA and I'm about 92% German from Baden-Wuerttenberg. Been here since the 1800's. This man looks like he could be my grandfather's brother or cousin.

You should do some videos on the Polish language spoken in Bukovina in Nowy Sołoniec and Pojana Mikuli.

    Interesting story.
Even more cause my family name is also german and have lots of germanic(probably swabian) ancestry.
I can't speak german/swabian tho. But I would never change our family name, thats for sure.

My great great grandfather was born in Satulmare. We never changed our names, thats something to get disowned about.
Time to bring back the the old great language!

So where exactly is his village - in Romania where the Swabians lived, in Serbia where you can find a district called Banat or in fact in Hungary - there is a region called Szatmar near Satu Mare in Romania, and hungarian sequence of letters 'sz' is read as 's'' so would it be that region of Hungary? I am really confused as to what place he comes from.

In the video description - "native village Petrești". I suppose it is Petrești commune in Satu Mare county, Romania. 47.6042N 22.3639E

My Grandmother was partially Hungarian from Batchka (Serbia). She spoke a Donau Schwabisch dialect of German, but I am also a Slavic mix. This is very interesting to me. Thank you for creating this video.
