I am an iitian from iit kgp. I was saved from raging, gpl and all such nonsense by ISKCON. I am not an iskcon devotee. But i do have immense gratitude towards them for saving me from the dog-like iit college culture.

I went through college without participating in any of such stupid rituals, the fact that an event like this can turn into a disaster for someone, is quite shameful tbh. My brother faced this during his time at KI**, he was beaten with a belt after he got placed but he is a big dude, years later I got to know from his friends how he legit bashed some of those folks who went the extra mile in hurting them.

This is so true. This happens with a lot of the students ( male ones). My elder sibling is a student in one of the top 7 IITs ( take a hint from this video to know which one) and this happens on the students' birthdays. The student's batchmates and friends get him cake and stuff and then beat him. At first, when he was getting admission into IIT he heard of this "tradition" from some seniors. But we thought this was probably his seniors' idea of a "welcome to IIT" joke. But then, my brother witnessed this and he even got a video of his batchmate getting beaten up by his friends and other batchmates which he sent to us. I don't get what's so enjoyable about beating someone on their b'day and neither does my brother and it's not as if their seniors beat them or force them to keep this tradition going, it's the batchmates who decide to do such a thing. What's even more disheartening is that these people are some of the brightest minds of the country and yet, they take part in such a "tradition". Such a sadistic "tradition".

Bhaiya what I feel is even after coming in IIT it's better to focus on studies rather than doing these stuffs. Fun is always good but no matter how much we age we never can understand what is the limit to that fun because it is giving us short term happiness. Rather focusing on studies will atleast give a proper life in the future which fun will never give. If someone is stressed out, they can watch a movie or play games, talk to parents or read a fictional book. That will take away lot of stress. Things like GPL is toxic no matter what. Beating someone can never be fun. Our body have so many vital organs. Even a small injury may turn deadly. And people may not agree but good friends are very limited and most are snakes. So its better to keep interaction between friends on a surface level rather taking those seriously. Ultimately all are there to build their future and competition is high. I said that getting good friends is difficult and most are only wanting to take advantage of you. Make friends, set boundaries and that's all what is needed. Don't get so much involved in friendship which ultimately harms you.

When you're in a Highly Reputed Institute like the IITs, it's a very good opportunity to build connections. You never know which connections would save you in the future. Since the students there are all people who are willing to work hard, there is a high chance that some of them would end up in high posts.

I don't get why GPL and other stuff is promoted for building connections. Connections can be built over a cup of tea, treats or doing meaningful activities together like taking part in competitions or doing a project together. In IIT Kgp there is a thing called AP which is actually just ragging(don't know about other iits). Last year a student died(you may know) due to the so called AP and now also there has reportedly been complaints on ragging. Now if someone is complaining definitely the person is not comfortable in all these things. Instead of helping them their future is getting destroyed. Meaningful connections should have respect for each other. I should be inspired by my seniors or my batchmates. I should be able to guide my juniors in correct way. Those are good connections. But in reality there are actually very few cases of such things. One will be very lucky and blessed to have these things in life but not all get it.
I have seen a birthday prank where the friends of that birthday boy literally made him cry and also hurt him with painful words and then they laughed like lunatics and wished happy birthday. Then the principal of college came and stopped them. But his condition worsened so much that he had to be admitted in emergency to the hospital

Recently a Jadavpur University incident happened in the name of introduction to a 17 year old boy who is no more. He was forced to give his introduction to seniors multiple times and many other things happened with him which was not at all acceptable. Students goes to these institutions to make their dream come true and it turns out to b the worst nightmare.

In my state, people call it Birthday bomb. When i was in 12th, i had recieved this birthday bomb on my birthday, even though i wasn't involved in any of my friends gpl. I recieved permanent injury in my lower right back. Till date I've done many therapy and even bought Automatic Thermal massage bed, but still sometimes my back pain triggers. So in college i never made any friends and avoided every parties, farewells, everything. Large friend circle comes at it's cost.

Dear friend its not just the ' engineering colleges'. Bullying, ragging take place in universities too like that of Jadavpur University of kolkata , many other noted universities too including every educational institutes.
When I was in 10th class, my classmates were enjoying a lot because it was a free period, lifting each other on their shoulders, roaming in class etc. And then two of the boys lifted me grabbing my leg and then a 120 kg giant boy came running and hit them , they both lost their grip and fell directly on my hip, i wasn't able to stand and walk properly, i thought it was over for me and I will not be able to walk properly again, but that lasted only for a month and now I am fine, except my hipbone which got bent and still hurts if get triggered.

This is so true. This happens with a lot of the students ( male ones). My elder sibling is a student in one of the top 7 IITs ( take a hint from this video to know which one) and this happens on the students' birthdays. The student's batchmates and friends get him cake and stuff and then beat him. At first, when he was getting admission into IIT he heard of this "tradition" from some seniors. But we thought this was probably his seniors' idea of a "welcome to IIT" joke. But then, my brother witnessed this and he even got a video of his batchmate getting beaten up by his friends and other batchmates which he sent to us. I don't get what's so enjoyable about beating someone on their b'day and neither does my brother and it's not as if their seniors beat them or force them to keep this tradition going, it's the batchmates who decide to do such a thing. What's even more disheartening is that these people are some of the brightest minds of the country and yet, they take part in such a "tradition". Such a sadistic "tradition".

Bhaiya what I feel is even after coming in IIT it's better to focus on studies rather than doing these stuffs. Fun is always good but no matter how much we age we never can understand what is the limit to that fun because it is giving us short term happiness. Rather focusing on studies will atleast give a proper life in the future which fun will never give. If someone is stressed out, they can watch a movie or play games, talk to parents or read a fictional book. That will take away lot of stress. Things like GPL is toxic no matter what. Beating someone can never be fun. Our body have so many vital organs. Even a small injury may turn deadly. And people may not agree but good friends are very limited and most are snakes. So its better to keep interaction between friends on a surface level rather taking those seriously. Ultimately all are there to build their future and competition is high. Competition can drive anyone crazy so a so called friend can betray anytime.
Edit 1 : I am never saying that making friends is useless. I said that getting good friends is difficult and most are only wanting to take advantage of you. Make friends, set boundaries and that's all what is needed. Don't get so much involved in friendship which ultimately harms you.

When you're in a Highly Reputed Institute like the IITs, it's a very good opportunity to build connections. You never know which connections would save you in the future. Since the students there are all people who are willing to work hard, there is a high chance that some of them would end up in high posts.

I don't get why GPL and other stuff is promoted for building connections. Connections can be built over a cup of tea, treats or doing meaningful activities together like taking part in competitions or doing a project together. In IIT Kgp there is a thing called AP which is actually just ragging(don't know about other iits). Last year a student died(you may know) due to the so called AP and now also there has reportedly been complaints on ragging. Now if someone is complaining definitely the person is not comfortable in all these things. Instead of helping them their future is getting destroyed. Meaningful connections should have respect for each other. I should be inspired by my seniors or my batchmates. I should be able to guide my juniors in correct way. Those are good connections. But in reality there are actually very few cases of such things. One will be very lucky and blessed to have these things in life but not all get it.

Then the principal of college came and stopped them. But his condition worsened so much that he had to be admitted in emergency to the hospital

Recently a Jadavpur University incident happened in the name of introduction to a 17 year old boy who is no more.
He was forced to give his introduction to seniors multiple times and many other things happened with him which was not at all acceptable.
Students goes to these institutions to make their dream come true and it turns out to b the worst nightmare.

In my state, people call it Birthday bomb. When i was in 12th, i had recieved this birthday bomb on my birthday, even though i wasn't involved in any of my friends gpl. I recieved permanent injury in my lower right back. Till date I've done many therapy and even bought Automatic Thermal massage bed, but still sometimes my back pain triggers. So in college i never made any friends and avoided every parties, farewells, everything. Large friend circle comes at it's cost.

Dear friend its not just the ' engineering colleges'. Bullying, ragging take place in universities too like that of Jadavpur University of kolkata , many other noted universities too including every educational institutes.
When I was in 10th class, my classmates were enjoying a lot because it was a free period, lifting each other on their shoulders, roaming in class etc.
And then two of the boys lifted me grabbing my leg and then a 120 kg giant boy came running and hit them , they both lost their grip and fell directly on my hip, i wasn't able to stand and walk properly, i thought it was over for me and I will not be able to walk properly again, but that lasted only for a month and now I am fine, except my hipbone which got bent and still hurts if get triggered.
