  • In this video, I share 8 pieces of backpacking gear that I never go hiking without. Actually, it's a bit more than 8 items, but I grouped some of them into a single listicle. Some of these items I might leave at home on very short hikes, but 90% of the time, I'll be bringing all of the items mentioned in this video.

    The lighter + string tip is pure genius! Thanks for that! Definitely adding this to our kit.

    It's funny the notifications are the only reason I ever wore a smart band, so I don't have to take my phone out of my pocket to see who's calling or whatever. The Mi Band 4 (I have as well) requires me to take the phone out of my pocket and go into the app to set alarms. I'm not interested in tracking heart rate. The phone does a good job of tracking steps without anything else. I have actually switched back from two different smart watches to using a Timex Indiglo, which is fantastic in a tent at night. It's also much more readable than the Mi Band to my 56 year old eyes, even with a large font watchface on the Mi Band.

    Another popular hiking sock is the farm to feet.

      I think I'll try the Silverlight merino wool socks for my long-distance hike. Supposedly, the silver threads are antimicrobial, which reduces blisters and odors. This review encouraged me: th-cam.com/video/6KoL6cARjWA/w-d-xo.html

    Así mismo amigo, el MI band 4 es la mejor versión. Tenía uno de estos y lo perdí por descuido, después compré el MI bad 5, un fracaso total, lo tengo tirado por allí.

    I love coffee too but can I recommend trying Chicory or Yannoh for a European flavour? Coffee usually has a lot of carbon miles on it compared to stuff made here in Europe worth a try!

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've tried some coffee alternatives, but I'm just too addicted by now haha. Maybe I'll switch someday. I'm not a big fan of the large carbon footprint.

    Is the heart monitor and step counter accurate? I read a few reviews about the heart rate monitor being very inaccurate...

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The heart rate monitor seems to be inaccurate, at least from my own experience. But the step counter is actually pretty accurate. Especially for hiking at normal walking speeds. If I walk about 20km on a day, it usually shows about 21-23 km. It's not that accurate for running though.

    • @John_Ridley
      @John_Ridley 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Mi Band 4 and the step counter is accurate. I haven't found a watch with a very accurate pulse measurement. They're all fine if you hold still and let them get a reading but if you're active I think the sensor just moves around too much for anything to get a good reading.
