  • In this video, I share the gear list for my first thru-hike GR11, which I will be walking in the summer of 2021. It stretches across the Spanish Pyrenees mountains from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. In total, it's about 820km / 509 miles in length and 46 000 m / 150 000 ft in ascent and descent. I should be able to complete it in early August, and it should take about 35-45 days in total. Most of the nights, I will be staying in a tent, except for zero days.

    There's a lot of homogeny and conformity within the backpacking community so it's refreshing to see some idiosyncratic rigs. Mirrors my own style. S2S trowel and color coordinated stuff sacks? Nice unique touch

    I had lot's of questions regarding Hiking and, gotta say, watching your videos solved most of them. This info helped me out on How-To get Started, I'm also about to buy a new Backpack &, hopefully, next month I'll get into my first adventure, at 28 years old. Thank you so much for sharing!
    Cheers from Mexico & best of luck on your new Chapter!

    I love my backpacking espresso maker, I'd trim those towels down and make up that 300 grams.

    Me sorprende el buen resultado que, según dices, te dieron las zapatillas de Decathlon. Te aguantaron toda la travesía??
    Gracias. Enhorabuena por el vídeo.

    I would highly recommend a water filter for the GR 11

    Decathlon is the way! I've got the same down jacket and I think it works as good as a way more expensive one. About the filter, you may already know that some kind of sport cap that can be found on some regular water bottles, can be used reverse to do the backwashing so you can leave the syringe at home, is that a good idea?
    Have a good hike!

      Oh damn, didn't know about that one. I'll definitely try this out and if it works, I'll leave it home. Thanks for the tip!

    Hi, I’m planning my GR11 with my partner, I knows refugios would really add up, so we are planning on camping and maybe a couple of hotels when we are bigger towns.
    How much would you give as a budget for a month?

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did it with 1000 EUR back in 2021. I stayed at hotels I think only 1 night and at campsites maybe 5-6 times. Also didn't eat at restaurants, only a cafe + beer + pastry at bars/cafes. The rifugions and hotels really do add up. Some of them cost starting from 80 eur per night. Campsites on the other hand were cheap, usually 6-15 eur per person and have showers + ability to charge power bank overnight.

    i'm starting on July 5th, do you think I'll need to buy crampons/microspikes for the higher sections?

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only just started to ascend to the higher Pyrenees. Just camped at 1600m. Today/tomorrow we'll be going up to 2800, and I'll be able to judge that only then. I'll come back to this and reply again. Anyway, from what I've read and heard, you don't need microspikes that late. At least, I'm not carrying any.

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey again. Just went down from 2800m and didn't see any snow. I think you can leave your crampons home. Some other hikers from Germany said the same thing, and they were about to finish in a week.
