      BQE traffic is mainly due to all the trucks. Honestly, NYC needs a cargo rail line so the trucks are less of a thing. I-495 is just a giant gridlock of trucks trying to enter and leave. 60-80% of the space that trucks use up could fit far more cars

      @@Demopans5990Very true. One problem though: there is no direct rail connection between Long Island and the national rail network. That’s why there needs to be a cross harbor rail tunnel linking Brooklyn to New Jersey to make this work

    Actually, the 4 hour backups going in & out of L A. are way worse. Even Florida has had increasing commuter traffic issues for several years now.
    True, though, about the removal of so many lanes for bikes & buses & those stupid rent-free cabanas that mostly now need to GO.

    • @aqua2poweros699
      @aqua2poweros699 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hell no. The more bus and bike lanes the better. Especially on 2nd Avenue, buses need to run frequent there to pick up passengers at the stop.

    • @SofaSpy
      @SofaSpy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      in just one block of traffic, there will be be 25 cars with only 25 people inside. Single city bus can hold up 75-100 people, or train 1,600 people. The buses aren't the problem, nor the "rent free cabanas", it the single occupant cars that plow the streets that are the problem, but yet they blame everyone else but themselves. If more people carpooled, took the train, bus or biked to work there wont be that much traffic.

    • @theoriginalwaterbaby
      @theoriginalwaterbaby ปีที่แล้ว

      Dudes. Never said buses are a problem. Been taking them all my life. So chill the fuck out.
      Bikes are cool too. As long as bikers use the roads following the same laws as the cars and buses. Which many do not, yet, consistently do.
      Any rational person will acknowledge, however, that NYC has a long way to go to get the balance right. These streets were designed for carriages, carts and cars, originally. Trolleys, buses and trucks came along later and were worked into the mix. This took time.
      It's the combined effect of everything vying for the same space that was not originally designed for all those elements that is rhe current problem.
      Cabanas and pedestrian plazas are just the latest phenomenon. The kinks have NOT been fully worked out yet.
      Cabanas are cute but they harbor rats and trash in addition to taking up space that used to allow a person to be dropped off, or a delivery to pull up in front of the target doorway, or a pedestrian to cross with their shopping or laundry. Human beings with canes, walkers, and carts are significantly impeded in places.
      There are possible solutions, such as making sure the cabanas aren't too close to each other, building cabana floors with removable sections so that the street underneath can be regularly cleaned, enforcing traffic laws for bikers, and rethinking traffic patterns in general with EVERYONE in mind, including pedestrians, small business owners, visitors, vendors, commuters, residents and tourists.
      Evey metropolis has its traffic issues to be solved. L A. has a serious "one road in, one road out" between mountains issue, where cars get backed up for 4 hours every time anything happens.
      Florida is now experiencing a population and economic boom. In many areas,, existing roads and transportation habits that worked fine in other times will need to be transformed to their next best thing.
      Instead of simply repeating - regurgitating +- the mainstream propaganda whine, try doing a little research on all the options out there. Be a bit more curious about the history of your own city. Put your ideas into context and your comments will be more original and will also have greater value.

      Fun fact: if the Empire state building has to provide parking to all of it's occupants by itself, 80 of it's 100 or so floors has to be dedicated to parking

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theoriginalwaterbabyA better suggestion is to convert more car space into even better busway and bikeways, similar to international standards. Many of the roadways would see car traffic reduced to just one moving lane in each specific direction with parking on both sides. The side streets in Lower Manhattan would all be closed to vehicular traffic and converted to a permanent pedestrian plaza, with cars still allowed on the other streets like Water Street, Broadway, etc. These street closures can create more room for outdoor dinings without the need for restaurant sheds.
