I can't help but feel Volcana's design was at least partially inspired by Teen Titans character Starfire, with her long red hair and the outfit she was in while imprisoned.
Makes perfect sense really. In the show, Firefly is depicted a euphoric pyromaniac. For euphoric personality types, it isn't about controlling the source or how powerful the source is in relation to themselves. The high comes out of experiencing, often the more extreme the better. With that in mind, Volcana being perceived as a sort of fire goddess in Firefly's eyes meant that he had every reason to be devoted to her; she brought fire, and her fire was greater and grander than any he had seen before, and that was reason enough to follow her.
@@subtlewhatssubtleyeah so imagine them along with the Martian Manhunter villain the Human Flame and the Flash villain Heatwave teaming up and making the team called the Flaming Four?
As a fan of Peri Gilpin's work, Volcana is probably one of my favorite DCAU original characters. My biggest gripe with her is that she ditched the original minidress/blazer combo for a generic skintight costume later on. Made her look a lot more distinct, IMHO. As for Kurt and the rest of Project Firestorm, it's got nothing on how the Doom Patrol were portrayed when they were brought back as villains for the New Teen Titans. A bunch of people with extraordinary abilities hated and feared by humanity and led by a guy in a wheelchair with incredible telepathic powers? That's so obvious it hurts. Also, it's pretty telling that Firestorm predates the established inciting incident for Cadmus: Superman falling under Darkseid's control and almost conquering the Earth. Really indicates that the DCAU's governments have never really trusted superpowered beings...
To be fair to The Doom Patrol they were created around the same time as the X-Men - if I remember rightly they were published a few weeks after the X-Men debuted. It just seems like one of those weird coincidences, like when Jason Todd was resurrected and a few weeks later Marvel brought back Bucky Barnes…
Volcana is such a cool and underrated character in the show its kinda sad how underutilized she is in the DC universe. I wish she would show up more in other comics, movies, and shows.
I always thought the Volcana could've been Superman's potential love interests. Like with Catwoman in BTAS to Batman. She had her own superpowers that could rival Superman and that she wasn't all bad just in a hard circumstance due to how she was raised and was running from a fridge group after her due to her powers. She could've even gotten character development into becoming a hero.
Speaking of which, Volcana was voiced by Peri Gilpin, who also voiced another sexy villainess with a lot of potential: Desiree from Danny Phantom. Ironically, the eponymous protagonist was also voiced by the same guy who voiced this version of Jimmy Olsen.
I love when a hero is able to stop a villain, not by taking them to jail or whatever kind of prison, but instead by providing them with what they need so they don't have a reason to do bad things anymore. The same with Bizaro, it sucks that they end up going back to being a baddie (or at least joining the side of the baddies)
I mean a bald guy running a school for the gifted sounds like another Marvel pastiche, doesn't it? He's obviously not 1:1 with Xavier as he's not a wheel chair user, but the idea is there.
While we may not know how Volcana got off the island, we can safely assume it happened while Superman was being brainwashed into becoming Darkseid's servant. When he stopped flying in with supplies, either she would've found a way to leave, jaded by his apparent desertion, or someone else found her while he was away, whether to hire or abduct her is up in the air given the circumstances. However it happened, it's a story we missed out on
Two thoughts: 1. Volcana's backstory is that she was enrolled in the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters until she was sold to Nick Fury and the Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. 2. Superman's animated-original enemies are basically Logia-type Devil Fruit users from One Piece (Volcana = Mera-Mera no Mi, Livewire = Goro Goro no Mi, and Luminus = Pika Pika no Mi)
So true. The way her debut episode of STAS set her up as an allybof Superman's. If they wanted they could have set her up as a rival for Lois, or make her Superman's, Catwoman. Volcana and Lois breaking Superman out in Legacy would have been so cool. Imagine if her time in the secret society was working as a mole for Superman. That would have been epic.
I think that Volcana, much like DCAU fellow villains Harley Quinn and Livewire, has a strong voice actress to match her fiery personality(pun DEFINITELY intended). Harley Quinn's accent and performance, however, are just THAT more iconic than the other 2, that she became a fan and global favorite very quickly. I don't want to see less of Harley Quinn, but i do want more adaptations of these fairly lesser known DCAU original creations. Livewire, especially, was underwhelming as a generic thief on My Adventures with Superman, an otherwise great show
I personally never liked how Justice League made her be an outright villain after hee debut episode in made bee sympathetic. She could've been something of an Anti-Hero instead.
Not _opposed_ to more with Livewire, but when you compare their introductions, the latter is a fundamentally shallower character. Which doesn't improve with her later DCAU appearances. If not for Lori Petty's voice, I don't think she'd be as well-remembered as she is. ...of course, on _that_ point...Volcana looks like that, AND is voiced by Peri Gilpin? How does she not stand out more...
You missed one part: She did appear in a Supergirl-focused episode. I forget the title, but it was the one where an alien parasite takes over Smallville. It's a small scene, but it indicates she did leave the island and turned back to crime of her own free will before JLU.
I felt sympathy towards her in the animated show but then was confused why she went back to metropolis and went full on villain. I dislike shows that build up side charcters only to throw it all away just cause
A bit shocking that she never took that next step forward in the mainline comics but to be fair there is a lot of fire base characters in dc comics. I mean there's a hero named fire. So it's kinda hard for her to compete.
Funnily enough it also makes sense really I mean that's probably why Fury is usually so secretive about his work and his whereabouts, he doesn't know who to trust at the end of the day not even his own people sometimes
@ fury I don’t have much hate I kind of honestly feel bad for him. Shields on the other hand doesn’t even try to cooperate or have any middle ground with the hero’s. They either blackmail or force the heroes into doing what they say is for the greater good like seriously can’t u at least try and ask for help or have decent communication in making a deal that would benefit u, earth, and the hero for at least a decent alliance/team up that won’t end in pissing off the heroes.
@@waterking74 Honestly the only decent Shield agent other than Fury that I've read is Jasper Sitwell mostly because I get the feeling he genuinely believes in what Shield is all about and that is to protect the people at the end of the day (I get this feeling from him because he appears a lot in Ironman golden age comics all the way up until he's critically injured helping Ironman if I remember correctly)

Volcana has more recently turned up in the latest issue of Black Lightning (just came out this week) Once again she is a minor character, but at least they mention her by name and she did speak lol.
It really does strike me as ridiculous that to this day, there are people defending that Project Cadmus were justified or even heroes in their own way... supposedly including the show's own creators, who are always quick to say "Cadmus had a point!" I say Cadmus lost any claim to being on the right side when they began genetically engineering their own superpowered assassins, like the Ulti-men, Doomsday, and Galatea.
Cadmus is a group whose actions only make sense in that they are paranoid and operating under the (rational) fear of infiltration and mind control... and end up nearly killing everyone becomes one of their leaders was a mind controlled infiltrator. Cadmus real issue is genre convention- there can't be government run superhero groups, because the appeal is agency and adventure, not punching in a time card. So any government run group has to be evil or incompetent.
Cadmus was right to seek countermeasures against the possibility of the League going rogue. Their motives and methods for doing that were utterly petty and entirely loathsome.
Glad to join you now because I have been watching more and more of your content while I have been with you for a year now. Honestly Volcanona being the start of what would become the Cadmus arc is so crazy in hindsight. It's sad for her to become her own character then just become another generic baddie later on is disappointing.
This right here is why governments SHOULDN'T be allowed to weaponize people just because they have superpowers. Unless those individuals willingly join the military, they should never become living weapons.
Yeah the government can never be trusted, that's why movies such as Marvel's civil war is stupid. Cap was right that the best handsome their own as governments have agenda's and can switch.
Part of me wishes she had never returned, at least not how she did. She is very much not a villain as her later appearances portray her, she's someone trying to get by. Like you pointed out, she didn't like to resort to violence and would instead use other methods to get what she wants (persuasion, scaring people out of buildings, etc.). If she returned it should've been because of her longing to return to normal society, because that's the only thing she didn't get from the island. Her life had been about getting safety before, so when she finally has it the only thing that would pull her away would be missing people. But instead of any of that she just returns as "evil fire lady," which misses the entire point of her character
While yes, the island was surrounded by water, it didn’t appear as though there were any defenses that prevented her departure. She was a queen bee that was satisfied with her home, if she wanted out: she could just fly.
One of the most prevalent theories I saw floating around the net is that Volcana didn't escape the island but was found by Waller and Cadmus, who inteded to use her as a mole in the Secret Society. Unfortunately, there is nothing on screen to confirm it.
Volcana was supposed to appear in My Adventures With Superman but there was an embargo on her for some reason so thay weren’t allowed to use hero so thay used a female Heatwave instead and called it a day
The first sign of Project Cadmus, concieved to create government-controlled weapons to stop Superman if he ever went rogue. They continue to struggle with the 'controlled' part though.
I wonder if part of the reason she doesn't get much use outside of the cartoons is because there already was a Marvel character with the same name and a similar vibe (first appeared in Secret Wars and became a She-hulk rogue).
Volcana was a cool character Like she told Supergirl… Superman was no match for her and didn’t actually beat Volcana, but rather, reasoned with her for a brief period Not even Superman’s most ionic villains could do that
@@SerumLake Damn, I was gonna make a theory that Volcana left the island during the period of time when Superman was kidnapped and brainwashed by Darkseid. Like, maybe Volcana left the island because she thought Superman left her stranded since he stop getting her supplies. But that cameo kinda destroys my theory.
I think if Vulcana had more episodes dedicated to her backstory via flashbacks and where she's adjusting to non being a villain then she might have then more popular. But then again who knows ? Her hair was definitely the most striking thing about her. I'm reminded the 1980s version of Starfire just by looking at it.
One of the most underrated and tragic villains in DC or even Superman. Volcana's methods while horrible make sense. She is akin to the opposite of Batman's Mr. Freeze. Even if she does not appear much in comics or she never appeared much. Perhaps its for the best. Volcana is the best tragic villains that deserve more credit. And while we are enjoying the pure evil villain craze sometimes its nice to know tragic villains still work too. Too bad the Justice League franchise sadly ruined her.....
It is interesting. DC’s trinity has fire theme villains. Batman got Firefly and Firebug Superman got Volcana And Wonder Woman got Zara, Priestess of the Crimson Flame. Zara is the same as Volcana in current Dc comic. Zara just there to be part of a villains team.
You forgot to mention Heatwave from the Flash and the Human Flame for Martian Manhunter and imagine they along Firefly and Volcana team up to make the Flaming Four?
I wish the writers used Livewire or Ivy in the Only a dream part 1. Seriously what was the point of giving her a happy ending if you are just going to ignore it and make her return to a life of crime? For a franchise we'll known for its continuity, dcau tends to ignore certain bits of their universe just to justify moments thst do not make logical sense.
I love how you talk about her and how she doesn’t have any prominent roles in dc comics. However the same month this is sent out she finally shows up in the comics. That’s hilarious to me.
@@tylerbertram7065 Yeah, MAWS Jimmy is such an upgrade. He's still a chipper, happy-go-lucky guy, but he also has agency and some backbone, which makes him far more developed than being a walking punching bag
Semi-truth be told(which I'm actually chalking it up to complete coincidence) I always somehow got this vibe that Volcana was originally gonna be Silver Banshee, but granted(like somewhere between copyright reasons and limited animation from the technology of the time) they decided and wanted to go with an character with an elemental theme for the superpower.
When I first saw the episode, the design of Kurt really reminded me a lot of Nick Fury as you pointed it out. The series has paid homage to Jack Kirby's works like Dan Turpin being modeled after him.
Fun story: Besides being a cool character, Volcana was also one the inspirations for a OC I have been writting. This character's name is Fire Height (a joke with the word Fahrenheit). She'swould be visually based on Volcana (a girl with long flaming hair), while her personality would be inspired by Himiko Toga from MHA. She would be introduce as shy nerdy high school student who just wants to fit in and find friends, which leads her to get close to the main hero, the Spectruman, and his friends. Despite being welcome towards her at first, they would slowly discover that not only Fire Height has fire based powers but she's not that sympathetic figure. She's actually a creepy pyromaniac who has been kidnapping the students who made fun of her to burn them all. She also would kidnaps one of Spectruman's friend, Amanda (who is also a victim of the bullies), so they can enjoy the "party" together. Unfortunelly for her, Amanda is not vengefull and would help Spectruman save the students and defeat Fire Height. From that point I would Fire Height returning as part of The Enemies, a group made of Spectruman villains (very similar to Flash Rogues and the Sinister Six), including developing a relationship with one them, showing her finally founding a group who accept her for who she is.
Marvel comics as a character of the same name so there may be some rights issues. Also, I think a good storyline for the comics to follow would be exposing that the government did all these horrible things to people and for there to be major suicidal backlash against it.
Great summary, but you missed one minor speaking role she had after Where There's Smoke. She later fought Supergirl in the episode Unity, when Kara was on vacation in Metropolis. So we had signs of her turning back to crime even before she showed up with Firefly in Justice League.
Yep, completely overlooked that, mostly because it's my least favourite episode of STAS and I try to put it out of my mind! Fortunately it doesn't add much to Volcana's story, other than the suggestion that she did leave the island voluntarily, as you mentioned.
More like what they didn't do to her character. They straight up had three more shows where they could've given her more development (JL, JLU and Satic Shock), yet she doesn't appear in one and is just another filler villain in the other two. I wished they had tied her and Bizzaro more into the Cadmus arche as they are both perfect examples of the horrific consequences that can occur when your more focused on gathering power then helping people. Vocana had her entire life ruined, with little opportunity of ever escaping her super villain past, while Bizzaro is straight up mentally disabled, unable to engage with his family or freinds because they were never really his kin, and he can't just move on because his mind leaves him vulnerable to manipulation and exploition.exploiting. Every time Bizzaro got a happy ending, some super villain snoops in, manipulates and draws him back into Supervillainy.
She is a quite interesting character... bit sad we haven't really had any progress with fem characters the past 20 years. As it really feels like we should have gotten somewhere by now.
I do like the "kinder prison" trope, where the villain is 'trapped' but their cell is a place where they can thrive. Mr. Freeze in his cell can actually talk to people that aren't going to experiment on him. Ultra-Humanize takes Batman's bribe because there he receives recognition from the intelligentsia while having all the time in the world to write. Big Sir, in the Arrowverse; he can never leave Jiaju, but while he is there he can live a peaceful life. Volcana doesn't have to fear the government capturing her, rob banks to get by, or risk harming people . A darker take on this is when The Kingpin is in prison in the Daredevil series, but having a perfect alibi plus having a place where the minions of all the various crime lords can have conversations without being recorded enhances his power.
@SerumLake So the Heat Wave in My Adventures with Superman is a gender bend version of the Heat Wave villain who usually fights Flash? Even though they already had a female fire villain native to Superman, and Heat Wave in MAWS could be mistaken for a new version of Volcana? Interesting.
Actually, before Volcana is seen in Justice League, she briefly shows up again in Superman The Animated Series in the episode "Unity" where Supergirl confronts and fights her at a bank. We see that Volcana had already gone back into crime before Justice League, but how she got off of that island is a mystery. Though Volcana was shown in Justice League Unlimited to be able to fly, that may not be how she got off the island, but who knows.
IMO, it's seems like the writers on the show only had a single story in mind for this cool character they made up, and like so many others, she had her story completely ignored whenever they needed a random villain to cause trouble for a few seconds, just there to fill space.
I’m just gonna say it, but it feels so wrong for there not to be an ice themed villain for Superman in STAS when the trio of Fire, Ice and Electricity is such a strong trio theme that other media always have beings of this trio. Like look at the Kantonian Legendary Birds from Gen 1 Pokemon or the Tao Trio from Gen 5 Pokemon which are modeled around Fire, Ice and Electricity. Moltres from the Legendary Birds and Reshiram from the Tao Trio are both Fire-Types, Articuno from the Legendary Birds and Kyurem from the Tao Trio are both Ice-Types, and Zapdos from the Legendary Birds and Zekrom from the Tao Trio are both Electric-Types. You could also sort of count the Legendary Beasts as the trio of Fire, Ice and Electricity, but Suicune is more of a Water-Type that can learn Ice-Type Moves, but the theme of Fire, Ice and Electricity in the Legendary Beasts of Johto is still strong even if Suicune is a Water-Type.
Perhaps in My Adventures With Superman Lex will try to make his own version of Task Force X including creating Volcana (possibly a friend of Heatwave). Confiscated Kryptonuan Tech could be used or perhaps a Metahuman similar to Diablo will explain her powers. Also, perhaps a whistle-blower named Lytner will aid Lois in exposing this but suffer the consequences thus accusing Lois of using and abandoning them in their time of if need for her own gain thus becoming Luminus and wanting revenge on her ... as soon as those meddlesome Super Cousins are incapacitated.
Volcana herself could be seen as a Marvel reference. Firestar, Magma, Johny Storm even had a girlfriend that had fire powers almost just like his. Volcana is very similar to all of those characters.
I just learned that Volcana is going to be in the new Black Lightning comics as part of the group Masters of Disaster, so that's something.

@@subtlewhatssubtleyeah so imagine them along with the Martian Manhunter villain the Human Flame and the Flash villain Heatwave teaming up and making the team called the Flaming Four?
The point about Superman having element-themed villains reminds me of an OSP Detail Diatribe that Superman is the ultimate firefighter.
he IS the ultimate firefighter.
He also had Weather Wizard, whom I thought was usually a Flash Rogue.
@@SerumLakeActually the Doom patrol were published before the X-Men.
Yeah the differences can be crazy when it comes to interpretations.
Volcana is such a cool and underrated character in the show its kinda sad how underutilized she is in the DC universe. I wish she would show up more in other comics, movies, and shows.
I agree volcana had So potential to be a Recurring adversary and who knows perhaps her powers would Grow over time
I always thought the Volcana could've been Superman's potential love interests.
I NEVER PUT THE LATTER CASTING TOGETHER BEFORE ZOMG
@christopherb501 How so ?
...dang.
@@juliagoodwin9510 What ?
@@aidanhever3369 Just was surprised is all.
Absolutely, that’s why I referred to it as a school for the gifted 😎
One is vertically challenge and the other is challenged vertically by stairs.
@@SerumLake Oh I thought the show did that (I don't remember this episode).
However it happened, it's a story we missed out on
Well, actually she appeared in the episode, Unity, where she's seen fighting Supergirl, so she had to escape before Darkseid brainwashed Superman.
solitary confinement in a tropical paradise is STILL solitary confinement!
Hermits gonna disagree
'To the heart seeking freedom, this island is a prison surrounded by water.'
FYI, the saying is actually "Where there's smoke, there's fire."
Two thoughts:
Volcana’s backstory is like Firestarter but almost like Ace’s tragedy
Same goes for Livewire with the Superman Adventures comics in mind.
Volcana should really get more love
She should have been more of a thing than Livewire
Not _opposed_ to more with Livewire, but when you compare their introductions, the latter is a fundamentally shallower character. Which doesn't improve with her later DCAU appearances. If not for Lori Petty's voice, I don't think she'd be as well-remembered as she is.
...of course, on _that_ point...Volcana looks like that, AND is voiced by Peri Gilpin? How does she not stand out more...
@ I know right
Volcana has a lot more going on character wise aswell
You missed one part: She did appear in a Supergirl-focused episode. I forget the title, but it was the one where an alien parasite takes over Smallville. It's a small scene, but it indicates she did leave the island and turned back to crime of her own free will before JLU.
I felt sympathy towards her in the animated show but then was confused why she went back to metropolis and went full on villain.
I dislike shows that build up side charcters only to throw it all away just cause
Don't watch most Yugioh shows, then.
I love that Roz was the voice of Volcana
Peri Gilpin was perfect casting.
Did you like her as Desiree?
@@christopherb501
YEP 😘🥰😍
A bit shocking that she never took that next step forward in the mainline comics but to be fair there is a lot of fire base characters in dc comics. I mean there's a hero named fire. So it's kinda hard for her to compete.
Funny how shield in marvel comics is slowly becoming the DCAU parody version.
The bigger the organization the more snakes your gonna have hiding in it
Funnily enough it also makes sense really I mean that's probably why Fury is usually so secretive about his work and his whereabouts, he doesn't know who to trust at the end of the day not even his own people sometimes
@@xavierjuno4572 still sucks though their are actual good people in shield that actually do their job like the lady that turned into a cyborg in the deadpool comics but its only a small hand full.
@@waterking74 Ya that's probably why Fury has an elite group of Shield agents working under him (one of which includes Jasper believe it or not) and these agents no matter there experience and age are chosen because Fury knows their people he can trust
Volcana has more recently turned up in the latest issue of Black Lightning (just came out this week) Once again she is a minor character, but at least they mention her by name and she did speak lol.
Volcana also appears in the Superman episode "Unity," fighting Supergirl.
These are the same idiots who thought Thanos had a point, call Scrooge a "job creator", or EVER voted conservative in the past decade.
To be fair
The league had a giant space laser that pointed down towards the earth
Cadmus was right to seek countermeasures against the possibility of the League going rogue. Their motives and methods for doing that were utterly petty and entirely loathsome.
Emphasize DOWN @@AllMight6
You're right society did failed her!!
Depends on the stakes, really. It's either, hmm, the Allies who acquires the superpeople, or worse, the vile Ruskies and ChiComs who'll do it first.
4:06 that ultimate alliance shout-out spoke to my very soul
The Jimmy Olsen hate is real
I genuinely miss Volcana. Kind of sad that she never got the Mr. Freeze or Harley Quin treatment.
I also think that Peri Gilpin (better known as Roz from "Frasier") did a great job with the voice for Volcana.
Agreed! Perfect casting!
One of the most prevalent theories I saw floating around the net is that Volcana didn't escape the island but was found by Waller and Cadmus, who inteded to use her as a mole in the Secret Society. Unfortunately, there is nothing on screen to confirm it.
That's a damn shame. There’s so much more DC could've done with her.
In typical fashion, she turned up in this week's Black Lightning number 2. So there's still time!
Volcana was supposed to appear in My Adventures With Superman but there was an embargo on her for some reason so thay weren’t allowed to use hero so thay used a female Heatwave instead and called it a day
Maybe they'll go and give heat wave an upgrade and she'll be known as Vulcana
I'm kinda glad they didn't use Volcana. She's a wildly different character anyway.
Superman: I was lucky
Volcana: Yes you we're.
Great line in the animated series how superman was lucky the Kent's found him
The first sign of Project Cadmus, concieved to create government-controlled weapons to stop Superman if he ever went rogue. They continue to struggle with the 'controlled' part though.
I wonder if part of the reason she doesn't get much use outside of the cartoons is because there already was a Marvel character with the same name and a similar vibe (first appeared in Secret Wars and became a She-hulk rogue).
That and DC also has so many fire villains so I can definitely see why she never became mainstream unlike her other animated counterparts
Volcana also appears in a scene of the STAS episode "Unity". She was fighting Supergirl.
Volcana becoming a villain wasn’t a huge surprise. You can only stay isolated for so long. Plus her smile shows that she enjoys the lifestyle.
I think the biggest reason she is not used much is because we have Starfire and such already.
Volcana was a cool character
Like she told Supergirl…
Superman was no match for her and didn’t actually beat Volcana, but rather, reasoned with her for a brief period
Not even Superman’s most ionic villains could do that
More like hot character
Thanks!
No, thank you!
Didn't Volcana also show up on another episode of STAS where she briefly fought and got beaten by Supergirl?
Yeah, very briefly in Unity, but that was more of a cameo than an episode about her
@@SerumLake Damn, I was gonna make a theory that Volcana left the island during the period of time when Superman was kidnapped and brainwashed by Darkseid. Like, maybe Volcana left the island because she thought Superman left her stranded since he stop getting her supplies. But that cameo kinda destroys my theory.
4:35 and the mainline comics even went as far as introduce an Evil Black Pantha like character called Red Lion
I am really liking your videos, they provide so much good info about characters I hardly knew anything about
Glad you’re enjoying them. It makes all the effort worthwhile
It is interesting. DC’s trinity has fire theme villains.
Batman got Firefly and Firebug
Superman got Volcana
And Wonder Woman got Zara, Priestess of the Crimson Flame.
Zara is the same as Volcana in current Dc comic. Zara just there to be part of a villains team.
You forgot to mention Heatwave from the Flash and the Human Flame for Martian Manhunter and imagine they along Firefly and Volcana team up to make the Flaming Four?
5:44 Reasonable crashout.
5:32 That hair cut man
I wish the writers used Livewire or Ivy in the Only a dream part 1.
I forgot Volcan existed and totally confused her with Fire who I saw in Batman the brave and the bold
Lots of Luke and Msry content today. Almost like they planned to provide a playlist for my first day of holiday leave.

I was disappointed CW didn’t adapt Volcana
I can see the hatred of Jimmy in a video about him
He's such a loser...
@@SerumLake Are you planning on doing a video about Jimmy at some point?
@@SerumLakehis character is handled much better in My Adventures with Superman.
Didn't he have his own line of comics back in the 50's?😂
@@tylerbertram7065 Yeah, MAWS Jimmy is such an upgrade. He's still a chipper, happy-go-lucky guy, but he also has agency and some backbone, which makes him far more developed than being a walking punching bag
If you switch the lab with a desert, and becoming a thief with becoming a goddess, she's pretty much the Lina from DOTA 😂
🔥Would've been cool to see Volcana and Fire have a bout...then later befriend one another after sharing so many similarities!❤️🔥
I also would like VOLCANA, be added into the new, mainstream DC comics stories.
Such an underrated gem of a character
Volcana deserved better, but what would you have her do? Don’t think she’d want to be a hero
She could be doing literally anything else in comics, but nope. They used that character for nothing
Damn shame what they did to her character in the end.
Volcana was in My Adventures with Superman.
isn't that Heat Wave?
@SerumLake So the Heat Wave in My Adventures with Superman is a gender bend version of the Heat Wave villain who usually fights Flash? Even though they already had a female fire villain native to Superman, and Heat Wave in MAWS could be mistaken for a new version of Volcana? Interesting.
@madskristiansen eh, she's a wildly different character anyway, so I'm glad they didn't use her.
@@tylerbertram7065 Fair point.
Thanks for taking my
Suggestion
It might have been more cathartic/fitting to have Volcana encounter Fire (green-fire based super heroine) to show she can use her powers for good.
Actually, before Volcana is seen in Justice League, she briefly shows up again in Superman The Animated Series in the episode "Unity" where Supergirl confronts and fights her at a bank. We see that Volcana had already gone back into crime before Justice League, but how she got off of that island is a mystery. Though Volcana was shown in Justice League Unlimited to be able to fly, that may not be how she got off the island, but who knows.
and just as you post this she makes her grand first appearance in Black Lightning issue 2
Oh how I laughed when I saw that comic... better late than never, I guess!
Fun fact, there’s also a Volcana at Marvel who’s mildly important thanks to her connections to Titania and the Molecule man
IMO, it's seems like the writers on the show only had a single story in mind for this cool character they made up, and like so many others, she had her story completely ignored whenever they needed a random villain to cause trouble for a few seconds, just there to fill space.
When Will You Cover The Villains That Debuted In Justice League And Justice League Unlimited
MODOK SEEN!!!!!
What’s DC doing with a Volcana?
DC should make Volcana Superman’s CatWoman(Batman)/Black cat(Spiderman).
I feel feel sorry for what happened to her this show and this is exactly what would of happened to superman if he was never adopt by the Kent’s.
