The 4 on the Max Bill is one of my favorite font choices on any watch

I'm from Germany and didn't know that Braun makes watches. 🙂
My watch journey started with a Junghans Max Bill. I absolutely love the Bauhaus design. So of course it had to be a Nomos next. Und another one... 🙃
My grail wach is also a Lange but I'm afraid that will never happen.
So I shifted to Glashütte Original instead. They make beautiful watches and build approximately 95% of all parts in Glashütte.

Dekla is a German brand who started making parts for other watchmakers and went to also selling watches under their own name.
I have a Turbulenz version 2 which is a combination of the fleger style with a sort of retro futuristic take. They make all of their own hands dials and cases, and use a Swiss movement and a handmade German leather strap.

One of my grail chronos has to be a Hanhart. Amazing history and quality! Awesome video my man

I cannot recommend the 556 enough. I have the MOP version on the 5 link bracelet and I don't think i've seen a watch in the 1-1.5k price range that feels more well built while having such a crisp design language.

I like this format a lot. The price limit is good as it forces us to look at watches we might not think about. Not everyone has more than $1000 to spend. You might try doing the same thing with a $2000 or $2500 limit, and then $5000. A list of American makers would good, too.

Great video, thanks! I totally agree with you on grail watches, I may never be able to afford one but my grail has A Lange und Söhne on it instead of a crown. One thing the Germans do well is Bauhaus design. I am considering a Max Bill Junghans Automatic or a Sternglas Noas Bronze at the moment but you made a few suggestions that has me thinking… so, thanks for making my next watch decision way more complex 😊

You're welcome, it's got me thinking too, I was going to get an Urban Flygraf but all the time spent looking at the nomos movements is giving me second thoughts.

Nomos have some beautiful movements. No watch collection is complete without one. The only problem is which one to choose?

    Circular?

Thanks for this list. I've been wanting to get myself a watch with character to celebrate a milestone which unfortunately isn't prosperity and I might just get one of the entry level Lacos as it's a reasonably priced example of a very definitively German genre of watch.
