Season 2 Episode 17 "Monday Mourning"
The staff at Gaffney Medical Center mourn the loss of one of their own after a suicide. Dr. Choi and Dr. Halstead butt heads while dealing with a young patient whose symptoms mimic a stroke and Dr. Manning deals with a boy who fell into a freezing river. Also, April makes a serious decision about her relationship following her miscarriage.

I think they should let the patient decide on what he should get because u need to respect the patient wishes and The patient needs surgery to remove the problem from his brain and page doctor Connor might be risky but at least I’m actually doing something

My thoughts exactly. State of the art, everything is technologically streamlined and for sure it is one expensive hospital they're working in. The hospital in my country are still using metal clipfile with paper i/o chart though 😅

The fact that he got a CT scan within 5 minutes and an MRI will only take an hour to get and TPA in less than 4 hours, wow. Only but a dream in the third world. As doctors here we struggle to get everything.
Make no mistake, things in America aren't paradise, despite the advanced technology. People can have their lives ruined and be put into debts they never recover from because of hospital visits.
CT scans actually take upward of 15 - 20 mins
I agree with you. Now I live near the capital city, so it's possible to get all of that, but it probably will take all day because you still have to wait in line. My cousins, however, live in a country village, and she needs to travelled 3 hours by small boat, and 1 hour by car just to get an IV. If she needs an x-ray or had to deliver baby by a caesaran procedure, she needs to travel another 3 hours by car. Still, her situation still considered as lucky. In another place, you'll need 2 days just to get in a small clinic.
None of these investigations are available so fast in my country CT is but t PA not so
Thats actually an MRI machine ryt? The sounds as I know comes from the MRI not from the CT, CTs are quiet as I know, but they keep telling its CT I'm confused to the core

My stupid ass 20 year old brother had the same thing. Right side was paralysed, CT and MRI was clear. They put it down to stress.

I always feel like dr. Choi want to prove himself right no matter what, as a med student i feel like you should never stop learning, u are never trained enough to not listen to others
The context of this episode was one of the resident doctors committed suicide, so everyone was emotionally drained. Like he said, he wanted to do his best to save lives. And he even put his own life in danger to save lives in the later episodes

Synesthesia excist in varies forms. It is something about mixed signals between the senses or different wiring of the senses if you will. Like someone seing music and such. I myself hear music or see color with people I am with. My sister is for example purple 'aura' qnd harp music.

Conversion disorder is an outdated and no longer used term (Functional Neurological Disorder is the more widely used) and while the other stuff was reletively accurate its WAY more complicated than that and in reality its increadibly unlikely the paralysis would go away instantly like that, if it's possible at all. I have been paralyzed in my left leg for a year and 10 months due to FND and I'm only just getting some progress due to therapy and improvement in my living situation

I remember a month ago, a doctor from the hospital in my town nearly sued a colleague for changing one dose of a patient that was actually hers. I don't know how things are in the U.S. but I'm sure there are protocols and disciplinary committees regarding doctors who overstep and take over patients and cases without the patient's actual doctor's consent. I love Choi, but this time he was dumb af.

I have this disorder.
presents the same way this boy did to the emergency room.
If Dr. Choi treated me...I would have had a terrible time.
I am so glad emergency did a CT AND an MRI as fast as they possibly could on me and, as they found no brain damage despite multiple doctors, nurses and med students studying them, admitted me to the neurological ward.
I spent 4 days in the hospital doing tests and had some awesome doctors (from every department), nurses, staff, volunteers and students all come to talk to me and work together to find the correct diagnosis. It was a team effort, if some one did not know the answer they would ask for a second opinion and so on. They identified my case was not immediate life or death and, therefore, took their time to find the correct diagnosis and treatment for me.
Thank god for my local hospital and the brilliant people within it's walls.
I was in the hospital 3 times and if doctor Choi was my doctor he would be done in 5 minutes with me or maybe a bit slower then that
Stroke has a narrow window period 4.5 hrs you can live ur whole life with disability and CT usually doesnt show you early sign but clinical examination can give you clue

It is much more complicated than that.
I'll try to explain.
When you are stressed you have the same fight, flight or freeze responses as when you are scared but much smaller.
So if you have a lot of stress your body can start to respond like it is afraid.
Basically this kid was so stressed that his body had a lot of adrenaline in it for a long time so his fight, flight freeze response kicked in. And he was paralyzed.
Decrease the stress = he can move again.
