  • Some of the questions this new video series will tackle:
    How to recognize fabrics?
    What's a knitted fabric? What's a woven fabric?
    What kind of garment can you use them for?
    Which fabrics are better quality and more expensive?
    What are the main types of natural and synthetic fibers? What are their properties?
    Thumbs up if you liked this video :-)
    New videos: Wednesday 4pm & Sunday 12pm (Paris/Berlin time).
    Take care!
    Justine

      I'm from India and am used to buying fabrics for traditional wear. But the process of seeing fabrics, I don't know why, warms my heart. So I automatically hit the like button even before the video ended and loved hearing that this topic too is now a mini-series!

      @@Tankervoy I didn't catch something for the heavyweight fabrics (maybe over 240g?), but for the rest: 140g = lightweight, 180-200g = midweight

    Justine - seriously, you should put this into chapters and then by the end of the series into a book. You have no idea how helpful this is.

    • @justineleconte
      @justineleconte  6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      thank you very much! I feel there are enough books about this - what's missing is to show actual examples, in movement, because pictures of fabrics are not the same (and not as helpful, in my opinion)...

    • @LuluFrance
      @LuluFrance 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Actually you may be right. I am a 'reader' so I look to books for how to do things, but the ability a video gives is so much more useful and user friendly. Pity you can't compile and sell as a video... I don't thing people buy videos any more. I bought an old Singer 191B straight stitch machine for EUR 30 in excellent condition and am so excited to start. I live so rural that I barely have a Leclerc, so fabric is an issue. But I've been trawling the Red Cross shop and cutting up old mens silk shirts and cotton shirts for little projects. I can't wait to get to a bigger city on a short break soon and pick up some fabrics.

      There is a bag ok called fashion for fabric which is pretty much what you are looking for. It even comes with nice swatches glued is so you can touch the fabrics yourself. It’s a bit pricey (about 85cad) but from everything I’ve read and heard it’s fantastic.

    I am so excited for the series! aand a confession here: Justine inspired me to build a capsule wardrobe and moreover, to try to learn sewing for myself! I am not planning to become a fashion designer or anything (not creative and cool enough for that haha) but I just want to have all in my hands: the fabric choosing, the ethical part of not purchasing from fast retailers any more, and being sure of what I wear-at least I can learn to sew basic pieces foe myself, we'll see... anyways, I am motivated and started searching for sewing classes yesterday. But I actually would never come to that conclusion, if I hadnt't been a "Justine club member" :) she is so influential and inspiring!

    OMG this video is great! I was desperately in need of this kind of advices and informations, because i don't now much about it and don't have anybody to ask. Our grandmothers knew what is what, but nowdays we women just buy chlothes like blind sheeps, without any knowledge and thinking.
    I am going more and more to my tailor now and sewing skirts, jackets and blazers i wear. So your series of videos on this topic came in the perfect moment for me.😃
    You are soooo amazing, love your personality and work, God bless you Justine!

    I got on TH-cam to learn "how to tell the time in french" since I have a quizz in class in less than 30 min 😅 and then I saw your video, and now I'm here learning all about fabric😂😂❤

    I love all your videos. I've honestly learned so much about fashion, makeup, scents and general lifestyle. Id never have considered any of this as a consumer. I'm in the uk and ive realised we're just taught and marketed at to consume-consume-consume, regardless of quality. Thanks for all the awsome, valuable knowledge xo

    Hi Justine I was very excited to hear about apple leather on the radio the other day. Exciting times. The consumers appears to be driving change and innovation. Great. Xx
