- Here is Hunter Foster and Rob Bartlet's performance of "Mushnik and Son" from the September 23, 2003 preview performance of the original Broadway production of "Little Shop of Horrors" at the Virginia Theatre in New York.
After the failed Florida try-out earlier in the year, the video of which is posted here ( • Video ), the show was totally scrapped and reproduced from the ground up, with a new director (Jerry Zaks), new choreography, new set-design, and a new cast. Virtually the only element to survive the move to Broadway was the casting of Hunter Foster (fresh off of the musical URINETOWN) in the role of Seymour Krelborn.

The energy and charisma this actor brings the role of Mushnik is perfect. Bravo!!
Gives me shades and vibes of Zero Mostel.
True Rob barlets version of musnick is amazing Tim Robbins is good as well but this musnick is amazing his voice the humour and the song is phenomenal even the way he waves the handkerchief at the end is amazing
Hands down the best Seymour and mushnik
I toured in the 80’s as Seymour. I like the lyrics in this version better the original
By god he can hold his breath
1:30 You can see Hunter holding in a laugh!
So based on the fact that the Yiddish suffix _-nik_, which is also used in English, implies association, then Mr. Mushnik's name literally implies he's associated with mush.
LMAO
Somehow, even before seeing pictures of Mel Welles as Mushnik, I associated that appearance with the character.
My god is zero mostel were alive he would be an amazing mushnik
The guy who played mushnik is actually my teacher and he told me that he based his mushnik on zero mostel
@@blueseagull416 That makes so much sense! I was trying desperately to think of what this performance reminded me of, and it was Zero Mostel in The Producers.
Zero Mostel would be at least 100 years old now
honestly kinda glad the florida tryouts failed - this cast & version overall was perfect. like fate tbh
I think I would start crying if someone started walking up to me like mushnik did
What why-
I feel very sad for Seymour in this song, Mushnik only “adopted” him to get money
And Seymour knew it but he wanted to be someone's son/family
And then Seymour killed him, your point?
Do you happen to have Just the Gas from this show?
They have the full performance on their page the end of the first half is where it is
Um, guys? You do know the shop has a fourth wall? The one you two just walked straight through?
I don't see a problem with that.
