Children of addiction look for a sober answer. It's understandable, but an addictive parent can't give you that. I pray she stays sober and this family can heal

Mom did what she had the capacity to do and it’s so unfair to beat her up for what she suffered with. She gave you up because she couldn’t do it and gave her to someone who could. We need to make a safe place for parents who know that they can’t “parent” and choose the alternative. It’s not right but it’s okay

    • @jazminepatton5649
      @jazminepatton5649 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

Just because it was within their capacity doesnt mean that it wasn't harmful and taking responsibility for the harm you did is still important. The person who was harmed is not responsible for creating a safe space for the person who harmed them at all.

She is judging her mother as if she was a rationale adult. She was young, alone and on drugs. She did what she thought was best. This woman had 16 kids. There is no way she could have taken care of all of them.

I’m saddened that this happened so much in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. I know the mom was young but she had 16 babies I’m sure all were addicted to something if she was on it her daughter who’s complaining lucked out! She didn’t get put in a group home! Or trafficked but the mom does need to have more accountability than this.

I feel like giving a child up for adoption is a kind and selfless thing to do when you don't think you can do it yourself. The girl is lucky she had a loving family. She's so angry and focused on what she doesn't have, not on the good she has already.

I think it’s because she felt lied to. Someone you trust is manipulating your reality and has been doing so since the beginning. This is why she is so traumatized and angry. The relationship turned when she found out the truth. Probably felt alone and even more abandoned.

Thank you so much for saying this🩷🙏🏽. It's a brave act, and one that should be commended and supported. Even outside of drugs/addiction, giving up a child for financial/mental health/economic reasons is selfless. It's not easy, but sometimes it's the only way for folks. It's too easy to shame people. Compassion and understanding is a process 🩷🙏🏽.

I have a brother whom my mother was made to give up because she was a teen. My brother went into a foster home, he knew my mom growing up. My brother had a better life but he didn’t have his mother and didn’t know his father. My brother always felt rejection, seeing us his three siblings being raised by our mother and my siblings and I father. My mother had no say so in the matter of giving up her child. My mother is ninety three, she has never talked to him about it to at least give him an explanation.
I understand this young ladies pain. It’s time for some parents to explain the truth to their children.

This grown woman has every right to say her opinions. She had allot to deal with..most of my life i felt abandoned, oh until family needed me to ..babysitting, take care of my mom after dad passed, take care of my sister with cancer, it goes on and on. Now I stick with my 2 children and grand child.

Lex doesn't realize that there really isn't any easy answer! We all hold on to these fantasies that if we were with our mom everything would have been okay, but it not so. My mother gave me away to my paternal grandmother, I was molested by one of my aunt's boyfriend. I asked my mother in 2013 why she gave me away, she said because she didn't have anywhere to keep me, but I know it was because I was a girl. I'm 59 years old now, never had a trusting relationship with any man. It ruins you for life! My mother had 4 kids for four different men, I feel thst having a man in her life was more important to her than her kids. She only raised one of us, and that was only because she couldn't find someone to take him & he committed suicide in 2013. Parents do a lot if damage to their kids, that's just the way it is. My mother is still alive today, she has all her faculties, but she's never apologized for anything!

I grew up with a former addict for a "mother," that type of abandonment and hurt changes you. Especially knowing your "parent" can't get clean enough to get you, but is capable of having more children. It doesn't matter if you had stability, when you're not being raised by your parent, but who wants to feel unwanted. That level of emotional trauma causes internal issues.

She is old enough to have read or see how drugs can create havoc on your brain. I would have thanked my birth mom for being selfless by giving me to a caring and loving mother (adoptive) . To the adoptive mother please don't let the way you are being disrespected keep you from helping others . God is seeing and hearing it all. I send you many blessing.

Having watched Karamo I've seen kids that were kept and raised by mothers with addiction and seeing her being raised by a good family is interesting to watch. The ones that stayed had extreme stories such as neglect and grape. She was given a good chance but her anger will remain justified. She just needs to understand addiction is addiction. It runs your body, mind, and soul. And we see people with addiction everyday. They're soulless when they're on drugs. She was given a chance in life and she will realise it once she deals with the anger.

The mom put her older kids in foster care and probably thought giving lex away to a friend would’ve been better than putting her in the system vs carrying her around. She sees her placement as she was different in a negative light… but it’s interesting that she hasn’t orocesssd that maybe her difference is a good thing. She got to taste and see what security and consistency looked like. She was the only one saved from that addictive life. But she can’t see past her abandonment issues. But I get it , when a child feels like they have to chase their parents , she just wanted someone to make her a priority and chase her

It’s hard to blame them when you know it’s addiction. Giving your kids away is the best option when you are an addict. Her mother did the best she could. Berating her is useless bc addicts literally already hate themselves. She is just going to end up driving her mom back to addiction.
The pressure and shame is unbearable for addicts. The daughter is just too emotionally I mature and still very hurt and needs therapy before doing this bc all she is doing is pushing people away with all that inner hate. It’s time to heal.

Lex, the younger daughter, is holding on to things as a defense. It's more of her finding any reason to blame her mother for feelings of inadequacy or separation vs her trying to understand her mother and show her grace.
Lex, is looking for a reason and she's been given a reason. A reason she doesn't understand therfore she can't accept. She could benefit from being educated on substance abuse and intense individual therapy. After a time, maybe they can participate in family therapy. Her healing is her own, her mother, nor her siblings, can help her with it.
