Love your video,s esp one of Idaho,s deadliest trail and 3 part series on getting stranded. That 501 is such a tractor. Been riding my drz 400 getting ready a ride in mi.
Thanks so much!! Those were some of my favorite videos to edit! I really love my 501 and theres so much I can do with it. The DRZ400 is such a cool bike too! I have seen a few in my lifetime and I was always so blown away with how rock solid those bikes are. So reliable and pretty capable too!
Great video! I rode this a month ago, a little bit of it, anyway … turned back at that rock garden. Always more challenging than videos are able to convey. Rather steep and tons of awkward boulders, at least it was for me! Thanks for posting, it’s nice to see what was beyond and what I missed. Well done. Might have to try it again next week, or maybe from the north and see how far I get.
Man I don’t blame you! Those rocks beat me up 😂😂 but it’s definitely a cool area up at the ridge. I heard it’s actually a bit easier coming from north to south and that’s what I’m gonna try next time too! I’m glad you liked the video and let me know if you try it from north to south!
I was on a quad trail in southern Idaho, and I had the same issue with loosing the trail. I did find it a little later. I wanted to make it a point to mention how SOLD I am on AGM batteries. I recently traded in my 2009 Polaris quad, and it had the original AGM battery in it, and it was working fine. When I traded in my 2012 Polaris quad to buy my 2022 Polaris quad, it had the original AGM battery in it, and it was working just fine. Unbelievably, Polaris put a flooded cell lead acid battery in the 2022. I took it out and installed an AGM in its place. When I started building my 1923 T Bucket in 2013 or 2014, I bought an AGM battery for it. I still have that battery in it to this day, and it is working just fine. On all of my battery operated toys and the lawnmower, I also have an "Opitamate" battery charge indicator. You can tell with just a glance wether it is time to put it on the charger, and it has a handy 12 volt 2 wire plug on it to plug the charger into, OR, it is a handy fused 12 volt plug that can be used for accessories. I have AGM batteries installed in my RZR900 Trail, and my TW 200 along with my 2022 Polaris Trail. I had to order the AGM for my TW from Taiwan, and it took 4 months to get here. Back to the trail that you were just on, that trail is just to rugged for me, and I don't know if I would have even done that when I was much younger. LOL I wonder how a Rokon 2 wheel drive dirt bike would be on that trail. The belt drive would have been useful in all of those rocks. I wrote the first comment halfway through the video. I agree with you turning back at that point. You know------back to the "mortal" part. Nice job with the video.
I love the way that you have edited the bike footage to the drone footage in real time. That is so cool. I went up an "easy" quad trail on my TW a couple of weeks ago, and I have finally come to the conclusion that at 78, I just can't do what I use to do on a dirt bike. I am going to sell it, and it is a shame because I have my TW all tricked out with front and rear racks, a rear chainsaw rack for a Ryobi 12 inch 18 volt chain saw. Oh well, I still have my Polaris "trail" quad to ride. I really like to watch you tackling trails like I use to do when I was 35 years younger. LOL I am also pleased that you have figured out the "mortal" part. I want you to be able to make more videos. I too like to ride alone. I always have, and I like it that way just like you like it that way. If I am not able ride these awesome single tracks, at least I can watch you doing it. Your narration is spot on. Not too much, and no irritating music, and I can hear that thumper just thumping away under you. Oh yea, that turn signal. LOL I have a 1923 T Bucket that I made from scratch and there are MANY times that I went to use my turn signal only to find that it has been on for heaven only knows how many miles. I have a 5 tooth bigger rear sprocket for my TW that I definitely would need to put on if I tried to tackle that trail. Those views from the drone are very nice of both the ridge-lines and the lakes. Your videos are just getting better and better. Keep up the good work.
I always love your comments!! It’s a shame you’re selling your toys but I understand the reasons. You know, I got a lot of prime years ahead of me and my last experience really reminded me to take a humble approach to some of my expeditions. I want to keep making more videos too and it’s hard to do that if I get hurt. At the end of the day, experiences like that need to happen to keep me aware of the things that can happen in the backcountry. You never really know how to prepare for an expedition until you’ve been bitten in the ass a couple times and then you really learn the things you wish you had.. I really hope you hold on to that TW because it’s such a good bike to use for exploring light trails or logging roads. Thanks for the support on the channel!
Thanks so much! Yeah, I am super excited to try and do an overnighter here in the fall if I can. I did a bit more digging and found that the route is best recommended to ride from north to south (the opposite direction I was riding) so I might try that on the next ride out there!
OK, Lets keep this momentum up, and you immediately hit a bush !!! LOL LOL. Yea, I have said that too, way to many times..... love the B roll with the drone. keep it coming. That looks like a really hard area to ride. good job. Could you post what you are carrying in your pack now. would like to know ? thanks for sharing your ride with us.
Lol its so rough sometimes hahahaha. Its definitely a tough area, but a fun challenge to try and conquer. Such a slow slog up the mountain in parts. Thanks so much for the support! I am stoked to get some filming in this fall especially when theres a light dusting of snow on the peaks. The drone is gonna love those views. One of my major goals for this fall is to film a series of gear videos for some of the things I am carrying. Everything from gear to bike parts and whatnot.
I had to stop the video. I was laughing. Hey you know what? I have this trial all too myself. Uhhh. Yesser I bet you do. Haha. Tough ass riding bud. I’m almost 3 times your age and have rode my whole life. You’re killing it. I posted about your tire and clutch a while back. If you don’t mind me saying. That starter would be on my mind also. Haha. Great video man. Keep em coming.
I’m from Arkansas. We did Engineer pass and Poughkeepsie gulch this weekend and the elevation had me dying. I thought about bringing my bike but glad I didn’t
I have only been out riding one day since 4th of July weekend. It’s just been crazy hot in Washington, I haven’t had the desire to ride. This summer has been one for the record books on the Dry side of WA. Looks you are doing the WABDR right now.
I whole heartedly agree that the 300 is a superior bike for this kind of terrain! If I could afford to have more bikes I would 🤟🏼🤟🏼 Who knows maybe I’ll get lucky and husky will sponsor a video 😂
Do the heavier Fly wheel mod it will change the bike it will have more torque which will suit your riding skills. It’s a lightweight dirt bike made to go fast cheers
I'm presuming your running tubes in your tires. If so, I would consider running the Tubliss system on a dual sport allowing you to air down at the TH to 4-5psi and lower in rear and 7-8psi in front it's a traction and rider comfort game changer. Since your running the Motoz tractionator they have very stiff side walls, I have run those at zero psi on my dual sport 500's with Tubliss system, I run mousses in my dirtbike.
You know, I have really begun to consider trying the tubliss system because you're totally right. The motoz tires are very stiff and installing them is a huge pain lol. I think this winter I am going to try make a few investments toward the husky and make a few more upgrades.
Tubliss is definently the way to go I've been using the system for 2 years now riding singletrack almost everyday in all different types of terrains and its never failed
Thanks so much!! I would love to, but I think he has become more interested in street riding lately and I am much more interested in offroad! I will however say that another BDR series is going to be filmed before this winter!
Ah man I am bummed you didn't get to ride the whole thing! Would love to ride it with you. It does not get all that much easier FYI. It's rock and boulders the entire way. The high point is very cool. I do think the south side is more techy and janky... I did this as a loop, completely not prepared. I am guessing you made it about 1/4 to 1/3rd of the way in. The loop took me 3.5 hours riding and 4.5 hours total. 45 miles or so. The rest of the loop is easy.
Hmm then maybe I could do it in a day then and not try to camp out there. I do think camping at the summit would be super cool too tho. We will see. I think next time I am gonna come at it from North to South and then just be prepared for all the boulders ahead of me lol. Maybe I ought to try and set up a group ride here soon then for people who like the channel?
@@madjack_757 Camping on the summit would be rad but there is not much room. You can look up the trail on Trailforks, and see my photos from different spots on the trail. Including one at summit. I don't recall going down that being hard at all, but coming up might be another story, All that to say - might be best ridden south to north. I wanna ride it again with more than just me.
Funny I stopped at the same stop you said was your furthest earler in the year. Hit snow right there as well. the little Creek you went over also was much deeper.

In my country we have not such big wild areas but I tend to look at google sat views and osmand offroad maps.
I run about 13 psi but having a pinchflat is one of my biggest nightmares! When I was in moab, I was so stressed about that that I ran a whopping 17 PSI (huge mistake). My bike felt like a pogo stick.
I'll check it out. I bought the Platypus, not happy with it...filters 1 drop at a time and is way too slow. Enjoying your videos, keep up the good work!
Yeah at some point I’ll film some gear review videos and that is definitely one of the ones I want to show people. It filters water pretty quick, but I’d still boil it just to be safe if you’re far from civilization. I also carry anti diarrhea tablets just in case giardia ever set in. So far I haven’t need em but it’s good to have! I’m glad you like the channel man!!
I swapped from a 15/46 to a 14/48 gearing! This was definitely a slow speed trail and I bet my top speed only reached low 30s in brief brief sections. Most likely some of the earliest parts of the trail or even off camera when I was riding to the trailhead
Hi. I had commented to you a few videos ago about your drone possibly having a Return to Controller feature. Was wondering if you had found that feature or not? I know on my DJI Air 3 I had that feature.
I honestly haven't looked yet. I am so used to landing my drone in my hand which is nice because I never have to get off of my bike. On my next filming trip, I will look for it!
You should go back to that Mountain Trail with Carter and REDEEM yourself. Now that you know how to get out and not stay out there all night. Don't let that trail leave you scared for life.
make sure that anyone wanting to ride in these pristine alpine environments that dirt bike riding is allowed... dont push it or we lose access to ride where we can!
I’m still runnin the motoz tractionator h/t and love it! If I picked up a tire sponsor I’d run the softest rubber I could, but for longevity, reliability, and decent performance, the tractionators do pretty great 🤙🏼 One day tho I do wanna splurge and try one of those gummy tires and just shred it up and see what amazing traction feels like 😂

@@madjack_757 oh dear god. I hope not. Maybe like a couple hundred yards of it just so I get my head wrapped around how much it would suck. 😆
@downbytheriver501 😂😂
You should go back to that Mountain Trail with Carter and REDEEM yourself. Now that you know how to get out and not stay out there all night. Don't let that trail leave you scared for life.
Not a bad idea
What was your gearing change? What ratio?
I went from a 15/46 to a 14/48 🤙🏼
@madjack What gearing did you change to
also, video idea. would love a break down of your current pack/s and what in them
I went from a 15/46 to a 14/48 🤟🏼
make sure that anyone wanting to ride in these pristine alpine environments that dirt bike riding is allowed... dont push it or we lose access to ride where we can!
I only ride on legal trails / riding areas 🤙🏼
I haven’t finished the video yet, but did you mention what new tire you went with?
I’m still runnin the motoz tractionator h/t and love it! If I picked up a tire sponsor I’d run the softest rubber I could, but for longevity, reliability, and decent performance, the tractionators do pretty great 🤙🏼
One day tho I do wanna splurge and try one of those gummy tires and just shred it up and see what amazing traction feels like 😂
@@madjack_757 I would recommend the IRC VE 33s gekota
@shawnh2590 I’ll have to check those out!
@shawnh2590 One came on my wife's klx 140 and this tire rocks.
Over the boot pants give you better traction
For gripping the bike?
you ever though about getting a 300 instead of 500?
Definitely, but I like having street riding capabilities too
Hi Jack
Are you on a 450 or 501
It’s a 2022 fe501s 🤟🏼
Quit hoggin the shower brah
