Excellent review as always👏 Like I’ve said before I wouldn’t buy a bike without seeing what this gentleman has to say about it first. Keep up the great work. Thank you
as an owner, your review is excellent and spot on, on every point. it's a hoot to ride and i've added a few accessories that make 200+ mile long days in the saddle a bit more comfy for me, such as bar risers, grip puppies & an air cushion seat. I can see me keeping it for a good few years yet, and as mentioned the snatchy throttle can be a pain, and i always take extra care from a dead stop at t-junctions so i dont jump out too quickly, but i'll keep an eye out for an ecu mod as it will be the icing on the cake, as long as it doesn't deaden the wicked accelleration especially in 3rd gear that's so much fun. thanks for the review. Hi Scott, I missed your relaxed but to-the-point reviews for a while (winter lasted long this year ;-)). Now there's a lot of motorcycle news so hopefully we can enjoy your work this spring! Nice bike, hope you do the Transalp too one of these day's!
Thank you Larry! Yea, it's still cold here, when I filmed this walk-around it was only 5 degrees and windy, you probably notice Cam with his winter coat on with the hood up, the little guy almost froze to death. But next week it's supposed to warm up a little bit, so I hope videos will be coming out every week. Or at least on a consistent basis now. take care and keep warm, Scott
Thanks for your time in making this most excellent review. I’m so tempted. I need a fun bike for days out and the odd trip. I’ve been looking at the Yamaha GT900, £13,000! Nice bike but probs won’t use it for touring. Thanks again.
Yea, it was a windy day, constant cross winds and big gusts all day long. Typical cold spring day here in northern Germany. I was thinking about putting the sound through the noise reduction software but really gives an artificial sound...so I chose not to do it and leave the real sound in the video. take care, Scott
Hey Scott, lovely to see young man helping out. Another great review of a very capable & cost effective bike. I just don’t like the looks. It’s just typical Honda boring cardigan style design. Just look at their cars. Imagine if Toyota styled motorcycles…like the Supra & F86…🤔 I think Honda needed to be bold with this.
Thank you! Agreed, it looks just like the MT07 or at the very least similar. But being "safe" is the "Honda way", so if this were parked in a line up with other bikes, you would not know that this is a brand new bike, it just blends in with the rest...sigh. take care, Scott
The on-off won't be fixed by Honda because it's a compromise to fit into the Euro 5 regulations probably, it has to do with the fuel consumption at idle throttle. It can be fixed by remapping the engine for sure though, so there's that. I think this engine with a new exhaust, intake and map will probably blow the socks off anything in its weight-price class, it must be choked by regulations super hard.
Scott! What have you done with the opening music, used to love that, really suits your style of relaxed presenting. I may have to start a petition! Think this is the best colour of what is becoming a highly regarded bike in the category - still looks a bit transformerish, which is becoming old hat, but the grey helps. Excellent work once more by your technician! Love it!
Excellent start in new season, top review as usual. Would you recommend this over Suzuki SV 650 (for newer rider 50 yrs old :) ). Ok, more power, torque, modern electronics...But more fun ridng too? And its 1500 eur difference....
What about a trade in for a 2019 CB650R? I can't decide on whether to do this or not. I love the dash and the power will come in much lower. I also sat on one at a bike show. It was a perfect fit for me.
CB650R feels more planted, a little bit heavier but more premium in my opinion. The 750 is more nimble, and sure more fun in a way as torque is everywhere rather than 650 when you need really high rpms to be happy. Also when you go fast 4cyl will be more thirsty for sure. The choice is yous good luck. p.s I wouldn't go with the 750 in this comparison because of the looks alone. 650r looks amazing !!!
@@druegeme I think maybe in a couple of years. So, hold on. The 919 is a very cool bike. I was interested in one back in the day but I bought a ZRX1200 instead. Still have it.
Thanks. Another great review and a year ago I would have bought one straight out. I had been waiting for the right middle weight bike. The CB650 has simple suspension that feels a little under damped to me. Could have been settings. Sounds like the Hornet is better?
Been looking forward to your review of this little Honda! Will be curious how the S8 compares in your opinion and what one gets for the extra money they're charging. I have fond memories of my 2017 SV650, but it was underpowered and the cheapo components showed their limit fast. But with 90 ponies, this Honda seems like the perfect everyday bike that you can thrash around on a weekend and even go on tour with. Tempted to eventually downgrade from by R1200R.
The junior cameraman looks very happy in his work! 😂 Good job. Great specced bike for the money I think it will do well. I really think Yamaha has dropped the ball with latest generations of mt's as they are just STAGGERINGLY ugly.
Im looking to get one of these as i think itd be great for a first bike, but the throttle issue is something im concerned about. Guess ill have to ride one to see how it is.
I've had mine since march, done 4k miles and yes, the throttle is a bit snatchy, especially in lower gears but you soon get used to it and have to be a bit more aware and gentle, especially when at low speeds or setting off. The reason i think is the ride by wire, and other bikes suffer the same issue's, but the plusses far outweigh this small negative, such as it's really agile, & has fantastic accelleration, i love mine and this review is pretty much spot on on all points. GL
On off throttle is a result of emissions compliance. Nothing can be done about this without loosing said compliance. They have to tune them so lean that when you open/close the throttle the engine is starved for fuel before it gets any to eliminate any possibility of unburned fuel/air mixture escaping the engine.
Scott, thanks for a great review. You have said elswwhere that your favourite bike in the class is the Tuono 660 Factory. However today if you were offered a new Hornet or a 2021 Street Triple RS with 7,000 km on the clock which would you put in your garage?
@@NothingToProve Thanks. Yes 40% more here. There is 2021 version for sale on behalf in a dealer close by with 7,000km on the clock with the usual bits and peices added for essentially the same price as a new Honda. Simple choice then?
If (when?!) this bike gets to the US, I hope the possibility to flash the ECU for better, smother, throttle response appears fast; I'm aiming for this bike in a couple if years..
I agree that it's a good looking bike, reminiscent of the old xt500 yam, but it could do with a longer front guard as the engine/oil cooler will catch all the crud from the front wheel.
The aesthetics on this bike are so... dull and boring somehow, I even prefer the cb500f ones (somehow). Of course, it's a great bike, and great price for what you get. But have to say, this is not a bike that will turn my head when I see one on the street. The other day I saw an old Hornet... and ohboy, that's such a beautiful machine, despite its age, with character and style.
Yeah I have a 2005 pc36 and I was getting my hopes up. I mean awesome engine even tho I hoped for 3 cylinders or 4. But a bike is mostly a toy even tho I use it for commuting. I want to look back at it when I walk away because it looks so great. Wouldn't do that with this one
What is your recommendation to buy for everyday riding and occasional touring between those bikes? Aprilia tuono 660 factory 11000e, ktm 790 duke 9800e and street triple 765r 10200e. Which bike will offer the best package for its price in your opinion and long term reliability?
Great video as always. I'd like to see you review the Transalp. I had two of the 650 V-twins and think the new one, with pretty much the same engine as this hornet, could be a great real-world motorcycle.
@@NothingToProve hi Scott, bought yesterday a brand new sv650 with standard an Arrow exhaust. Rides very nice, very smooth gears, easy to turn in and very nice sound. Thanks for the recommendation
I wouldn't. The money lost in trading is not recouped in the new Hornet. Now older MT07, then I'd give it some thought...2017 or older, then probably yes.
I do like the name named after the F-18 super hornet of the U.S. Navy😉 I called our local Honda dealer here in California there’s no word of this coming to the states is it earmarked for the US?
I think Honda is being "tight lipped" about when it will be in the States because they don't know either. They are trying but and this is a big BUT logistics and supply chain management is still a big problem for all OEMs and so I think they are releasing in the smaller markets first so that it does not put stress on their supply chain and then once the supply is "up to speed", it'll go to the States. But the MT07 took some time to get to the States too, so the same is probably happening with the Hornet too. take care, Scott
A snatchy throttle is a big problem to me. It really affects the enjoyment at slower speeds in town. Also, it’s not always an easy fix. Talk to anyone who has a last gen xsr900.
Yea, that was the only thing I could criticize on this bike. Kawasaki, KTM, Triumph, Yamaha, even the Ducati Monster, all got the throttle response correct but Honda couldn't...hmm...my only question is why Honda? Why? A lot of OEMs fix this kind of stuff when you bring the bike in for service and they just call it a "software update" and then the "snatchy" throttle gets smoothed out...mysteriously. I hope Honda does this, soon.
@@NothingToProve I did a test ride on the hornet, first and second gear in around town/low speed is absolute torture, even in rain mode. I did a test ride because the transalp isnt available to demo yet and i wanted to get a feel for the engine, but if the transalp suffers this same horrible on/off throttle in first and second gear it will be a big pass for me.
I dunno, when I think nakeds there has to be some kind of ephemeral X factor over just "yeah it's a competent machine." Just seems like a typical overly-conservative Honda offering. Great camera work though!
I had a 900 hornet for 5 yrs back in the day, is suspect the 750 is a better bike in every way. I cheated and put a bigger rear sprocket on it too, you had to be careful with wheelieing...
I think the Bike you tested has the best colour scheme. It hides the frame which I think looks awful, especially in gordy raspberry red. I wish they could have hidden the exhaust as I think that looks horrible. Even with the SC project In a bike shop. I think I would have walked passed it without a second glance. I brought my bike because it looked the bees knees. I just had to have it. I liked everything about it Yamaha MT-07 however over it's evolution I thought with every modification. Which I feel are cosmetic the bike looked even more uglier than the original design. because the Yamaha is quite an old bike and it sold thousands. It's hard to justify it's new price.
Just that it's easier to fix in the States because you can just put a power commander on it but you can't in Europe...well you can but have to take it off every two years for emissions test, then put it back on again.
Naked bikes are fun, but how in the heck do people deal with the wind blast at anything over 40-50 mph..I find it very uncomfortable. I am re thinking what I might get next and go for wind protection or a naked bike that cost less and doesn’t go that fast.
my bike is cb500f 2019 model.....not for a long...in the next three weeks i ama gonna have the new hornet....i can tell you i drive in the highway with 140km and i dont have any problem......easy ....
Uh Ho…on off throttle is a deal breaker. Which bike in this class does not have an off on throttle issue if any? Would love to know. That’s the one I will go look at…thanks.
@@dry509 2020 and newer for the Z650, and 2021 and newer for the mt07. older they will be "choppy" unless they've been fixed....like "PowerComander" there are others too.
I believe that it will ride like a dream. Like most Hondas. But do you really like the looks of it? What has happened to Hondas design team? The last beautiful bike was the CB1100EX. They only selling the last models in Japan exclusively. Because the Japanese appreciate a beautiful bike. Here in Europe we get the ugly models. Look at these mirrors, that headlight, the tank...the quality must be great but I wouln’d ride it, even when I get it for free.
Yea, looking back now at the video, I really didn't...hmm. I think that's because I really like the CP2 motor in the MT07. It is just so perfect, no other motor in this group comes close to it imho. Perfect torque, perfect power, perfect sound, sure it's less power than this but it's just so good that I don't care about the power difference when the motor is so good. I don't know which I'd take, I guess it'd come down to dealership and price...which one I could get the best deal on at the time...or just take the Triumph Trident...LOL! take care, Scott
On Nov. 8th 2022 Suzuki officially announced the replacement for the SV650 is the 2023 GSX-8S. So, did they make another official announcement since then to counter that first announcement? And the 750 was discontinued in 2020. So it seems like you are a little behind in the news...LOL! Sorry couldn't resist teasing you. 😊 take care, Scott P.S. The SV650 is my favorite bike in this class, even for 2023, this is why I have it still in the chart, even though it's not made any more 😢
I was interested in this bike untill I saw the local importers ingenious idea to price this ~2000€ more than the competition from Yamaha, Kawasaki etc. Totally ruined the intended market segment for the 750 Hornet around here!
@@timparish172 Yeah, your price was one of the reasons why I was interested in the first place! It seemed like crazy good value having all the bells and whistles, but sadly the situation is what it is here. The importer seems to have this idea that if it says Honda on the side, it must be more expensive than the others. Even comparing between Honda models, the price of the Hornet is the same as for the CB650R!
It’s hideous i wish they had a CBR650R with a 750-800cc inline 4 or triple to compete with the GSXS 750, also wish they had just offered this p twin as an option package in the CBR650R frame. Imagine having 4 option packages with different motors, suspension tweaks, and tires
"2023 Honda CB750 - Still A Hornet?" Duh, NO IT ISN'T! It's a CB750 twin. Honda discontinued the Hornet 600 (599) in 2007 when they completely b'tardized the looks and changed engine completely. The true Hornets are 1998->2006 (inline 4, carb'd). Honda also discontinued the CB900F-2-7 (Hornet 900 (919) - but these are FI) in 2007 yet another story. That's not to say that the 750 twin isn't a nice bike, but it's not a Hornet. Get rid of that fugly exhaust and forward underswept headlight and tank/radiator side covers and I think it'll start looking alot better. Absolutely, most subjective, but then again, most Limeys like cucumbers (as in cucumber sandwiches).... yuck! Great presentation review and well produced video.
This one doesn't look anywhere near as good as the original Hornet with the round headlight, sculpted tank, and high exhaust. When you show it and the MT-07 the Hornet looks like a blatant knock-off. It's too bad every mfg is doing the "hyper angular" look right now.
Poor quality of what, the review, motorcycle? If it’s the motorcycle then I don’t think you know what the word “Quality” means! Watch all the other reviews & everybody is saying what a quality motorcycle it is!!!

Oh, I didn't know that they were not in the States yet!!! Thank you for letting me know. Hopefully they will next year.
take care,
Scott
I can’t believe nobody has mentioned that you can’t get a centre stand for this bike. The back shock gets zero protection too
Uh, I don't think any of the middleweight nakeds do, except for the BMW 900R. This could be why nobody mentions it.
In waiting for Transalp 750
I re-watched your Kawasaki Z650 video again, and the Z650 seems to win on value: weight, ergo, price, and aftermarket. Which one would you pick?
The Z is a very good bike and so is this and so is the MT07, I think I'd take this over the Z, probably because this is new 🤷♂️
I do like the name named after the F-18 super hornet of the U.S.
But the MT07 took some time to get to the States too, so the same is probably happening with the Hornet too.
take care,
Scott
When you will do a suzuki gsx 8s review, it is only bike that is missing?
Yea, I'm curious about this bike too, Suzuki needs a hit badly. As soon as it hits the dealerships, I'll be on one!
take care,
Scott
is it a 180 degree firing order do you know?
No, it's 270, just like the MT07/790 Duke/900XR...etc.
I did a test ride because the transalp isnt available to demo yet and i wanted to get a feel for the engine, but if the transalp suffers this same horrible on/off throttle in first and second gear it will be a big pass for me.
does it have ABS and does it have cruise control?
yes and no
I dunno, when I think nakeds there has to be some kind of ephemeral X factor over just "yeah it's a competent machine." Just seems like a typical overly-conservative Honda offering.
Great camera work though!
Exactly why the SV650 holds up so well
I had a 900 hornet for 5 yrs back in the day, is suspect the 750 is a better bike in every way. I cheated and put a bigger rear sprocket on it too, you had to be careful with wheelieing...
Sounds like perfect seat height for me at 5ft 6
I think the Bike you tested has the best colour scheme. It hides the frame which I think looks awful, especially in gordy raspberry red. I wish they could have hidden the exhaust as I think that looks horrible. Even with the SC project
In a bike shop.
*What* was the comment about changing the fuelling?
Mention of Europe *NOT* needing a Power Commander... do something or other??
Just that it's easier to fix in the States because you can just put a power commander on it but you can't in Europe...well you can but have to take it off every two years for emissions test, then put it back on again.
Really well done .that's a cheap Honda for the money .I think its a real good deal
Where to get seats! Very uncomfortable
Why not 17L gas tank? Again. Ez to turn the look and feel to a 500x thats more comfy and more leg room
Or cb500f
Naked bikes are fun, but how in the heck do people deal with the wind blast at anything over 40-50 mph..I find it very uncomfortable. I am re thinking what I might get next and go for wind protection or a naked bike that cost less and doesn’t go that fast.
Should have windshield mounting
my bike is cb500f 2019 model.....not for a long...in the next three weeks i ama gonna have the new hornet....i can tell you i drive in the highway with 140km and i dont have any problem......easy ....
Uh Ho…on off throttle is a deal breaker. Which bike in this class does not have an off on throttle issue if any? Would love to know. That’s the one I will go look at…thanks.
Kawasaki Z650, Triumph Trident, Yamaha MT07, KTM 790 Duke, there's 4 right off the top of my head :)
@@NothingToProve Thanks. First time I have heard the Z650 and the Mt-07 throttles are smooth…not choppy or too on and off or abrupt?
@@dry509 2020 and newer for the Z650, and 2021 and newer for the mt07. older they will be "choppy" unless they've been fixed....like "PowerComander" there are others too.
That bike should´ve been an in line 4 to be called Hornet. I suppose emissions standard killed the thing.
So you didn't really give an answer compared to the Mt07.
I don't know which I'd take, I guess it'd come down to dealership and price...which one I could get the best deal on at the time...or just take the Triumph Trident...LOL!
take care,
Scott
Great review as always. The design however, specifically the front, is just terrible. Looks outdated and dull. The CB650R looks way better.
Suzuki is still making the sv 650 as far as I can tell. Heck, they reinstated the gsx-s750, which could be on that list. Old, but not in the way.
take care,
Scott
That’s ridiculous! Luckily, here in the UK it undercuts the competition by a minimum of £1,000. They’re selling bucket loads!
Wow software issues
It’s hideous i wish they had a CBR650R with a 750-800cc inline 4 or triple to compete with the GSXS 750, also wish they had just offered this p twin as an option package in the CBR650R frame. Imagine having 4 option packages with different motors, suspension tweaks, and tires
The fuel tank is too small
8 years in the making just to make it look like a worse cb500
Why can't they ever make a decent sized seat for you to bring your girl with you on an all day ride.
Because they think that we "motorcycle guys" all have Italian Super Models for girl friends
Too bad not in USA.
Seat very uncomfortable. Just put this engine in the 500x!
This one doesn't look anywhere near as good as the original Hornet with the round headlight, sculpted tank, and high exhaust. When you show it and the MT-07 the Hornet looks like a blatant knock-off. It's too bad every mfg is doing the "hyper angular" look right now.
Eight years in the making and a front end from the parts bin and a rear end from a cbr500. Fail Honda, fail
congrats Honda you made a boring version of what was a popular sport bike.
I had a 2005 Hornet.... that´s not a Honda CB (Hornet), that´s some kind of Honda CB 7is Sometwinish!!! And it´s dam ugly!!! Sorry.
Agree with you on the looks 😒
sorry but that thing looks boring and dull, sparks 0 emotions in me
yea, me too 😒
poor quality
Poor quality of what, the review, motorcycle? If it’s the motorcycle then I don’t think you know what the word “Quality” means! Watch all the other reviews & everybody is saying what a quality motorcycle it is!!!
