    This game actually got a fan translation a few years ago! There's music you can only here in game not all of it was released and not all of it was even ripped digitally from the game. I couldnt find the song 'home' anywhere.
    I fell in love with the art and music of the game. I hope more people do too! Folly Fall has to be my favourite song

      @@brazilnut3739 zophar's domain is another one you need to check out. This site only hosts in-gamerips, but if a game is listed on there you can be sure that it will have every snippet of music that is hiding within that game's files ready to be downloaded or streamed directly (and even in its original file format!). If you just want to listen it also has everything in mp3 and/or flac.

    • @marinellovragovic1207
      @marinellovragovic1207 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@brazilnut3739 The big advantages of having your videogame music in its original format is for one: the possibility to perfectly loop the music if the loop data is embedded in the file; and the second big advantage is the filesize. You have a perfect copy of the ingame music and it's in all cases many times smaller than its respective FLAC file.
      You just need a player that can play these (or for older sequence based systems like SNES, GBA, N64, some PS1, etc., you need a player that interprets and accurately reproduces these). There are videogame music players supporting a big chunk of all formats.

    And 6-7 years later, and sorry (no, NOT sorry) Cowboy Bebop fans, Yoko Kanno would release the OST for "Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex" (both seasons); to my ears, the best OST for an anime ever made when I discovered it 10 years ago, and it still is today (Violet Evergarden came close to snatch this title from my ears though -- but not quite).

      I started playing this game a week ago simply because I have not come into contact with Kanno's music (like at all) until that point and I wanted to change that. She is known as one of the most famous composers of the industry and I have been curious for a long time why that is (apart from the fact she did Cowboy Bebop's OST). Hearing every track of this game for the very first time and in context is absolutely magical. You seriously have to check out more of her works (and I need to do as well, so far this is the only one I've heard).

    Ignoring the compositional level, I'm just blown away by how it sounds. This came out in 2000, and it looks like a late-era PS1 game, but the soundtrack sounds like it was all recorded with real instruments. The piano could be synthesized (although the expressive phrasing in "Delightful Arithmetic" is hard to program), but I haven't heard string and brass samples that good in a game prior to the late 2000s, and I have never heard woodwind samples that good. Due to Occam's Razor, the most logical conclusion is that Sega gave Yoko Kanno the budget for a real ensemble for a game in 2000 that was never released outside of Japan. Just mind-blowing.

      The music was recorded with a real orchestra in Italy. It’s not that uncommon for CD-ROM games of the 90s to have used real instruments and orchestras as it was one of the selling points of the CD format (or well, here, the GD-ROM format) compared to cartridges.

    Am I the only one noticing that the melody in "delightful arithmetic" matches perfectly the melody from "the most beautiful fart of all time"? 😱

    Do you transcribe this music yourself? If so, do you post the sheet music anywhere? This is too good, I really want to teach myself how to play a lot of it on my geetar. I'm not really familiar with whole tone scales, and this just sounds *gorgeous* to my ears. Yoko Kanno is brilliant, thank you for making me aware of this score.
