    i think you want to take rip tides instead of fire knife suits. this is basically a longer range cyclic ion blaster on steroids. fills the niche of cyclic ion blasters being removed. while points are low, i think you will see trip tides coming back for certain games.

      @PeteOfDarkness it is better into hordes than the ion because of the volume of fire. It also does a better job of fishing for dev wounds on the turn you pop your core. With montka it also has a higher chance to pop lethal hits.
      But that's about it.

    The riptide doesn't feel right, the ion gun is just far too under powered for the size of the model. The only reason its borderline good at the moment is its a relatively tough body that can stand on an objective for not a lot of points.
    I want my big powerful suits to match the lore and have it able to blow away tanks.

    Not gonna lie, the riptide just feels like an Ork Mech, but clean.
    Like, it's a huge Mega Shoota with two Kustom Mega Blastas strapped onto it for its oversized gun arm, and it's got a crazy unstable super power source to give it the go juice. If the other arm had a big ol' Choppa or Klaw, it'd be a shoe in for an Ork unit.

    It's worth mentioning (if my understanding of ignoring modifiers from the last rules clarifications is right), the Weapon Support System lets you ignore both the -1 to hit from Indirect Fire on the smart missiles if you don't have line of sight, and more importantly, the penalty to your BS if you target something other than your Spotted unit. Get max value out of your big gun against something tanky and then turn around to bully some infantry hiding behind a wall somewhere without even blinking. It fuckin rules

    • @gump1119
      @gump1119 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bit of a necro and I assume you already figured this out but for others that follow:
      The Riptide can ignore Hit ROLL modifiers. The Tau army rule “For the Greater Good” unfortunately modifies the Ballistic Skill so can’t be ignored from the weapon support system. Big fail on the rules team, imo. Not that many units have the WSS and would make things like the riptide, stormsurge, and other multi gun platforms actually do their job.

    I dont think you can Advance and shoot in Mont'ka with this thing. To be eligible to shoot(to be guided by another unit) after advancing, you need a weapon with the assault keyword first. Other units do this by using Gun Drones. A single Gun Drone in the unit makes it eligible to shoot, then it can be guided, and then all the weapons get Assault in Mont'Ka.
    But the Riptide only has Missile Drones, which do not have the Assault keyword.

    It's a Redemptor but cheaper and better. Same big plasma gun, better secondary weapons, invuln save, more tactical flexibility, 25% cheaper (or so). Requires support to hit what it's shooting at, that's the big disadvantage, seems like. That and T9.

    • @fendelphi
      @fendelphi 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Redemptor is more durable overall(you have access to repairs, and take minimal chip damage) and much better in melee. They are also overall better vs infantry targets, as several of their weapons have Blast.
      The Riptide has a 4+ Inv, but it is also Toughness 9, meaning S5 weaponry(Heavy Bolters etc.), S9(Krak Missiles, Autocannons etc.) and S10 weapons are more efficient against it. The Redemptor is more vulnerable to high AP attacks, but if in cover and with Armour of Contempt, even AP-4 weapons will still give you a 4+ save.
      The Riptide has speed and flying, which gives it a lot of flexibility. In terms of ranged weaponry, they are about equal, with the Riptide being slightly more effective vs single models, and the Repemptor being slight more effective vs groups.
      Fun fact: the Redemptor was one of the few models in the game with a decent chance of surviving the CIB overload(on average, it would take 6-8 damage, depending on who guided it and if Kauyon was active).

    See, this is an example where ranks don't make sense to me. Who is piloting a Riptide, and then latter "promotes" to Commander, and has to give up the big, cutting edge suit, to pilot the flimsier Crisis Suit they STILL don't want to get into melee in? This thing is big, placing the pilot on higher ground, and we'll enough fortified, so why isn't the Warlord in this, overseeing the majority of battle by keeping it in their field of view, launching long range salves in, and instructing subordinates to surge forward, into a foe they have softened up? The Warlord is important, so why not have the best T, W, and Sv on the field? It's sort of like how Rogal Dorns, and Baneblade variations, are superior to a Leman Russ, but those are what Tank Commanders drive...and then they select Demolisher Cannon, and need to get into practically melee range, anyway. It just seems like the leader should get to hang back, oversee the whole engagement, and sling out supporting orders from a highly defensible bastion of strength. Can't all be Space Marines. Oh well,I do find Riptides neat, and cool, big chunky battle suits.

Obviously Shadowsun is a Special Character, so no changes, but can my Commander, or at least Warlord, be a Ruptide, or Broadside, in an actual game of 10e 40k? I truly don't know, but I assume unnamed Shas'O need to be in some variant of the XV8 Crisis Suit, as that's what has stats, barring some Forgeworld slightly bigger suit, or Shadowsun's stealth suit, which is unique to her.

    • @MrDefender1234
      @MrDefender1234 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Now someone else has already mentioned that in Lore Commanders can likely take any suite they want but besides all the things you've said you also forgot to mention that it's a HUGE TARGET. If I was a Tau Soldier, unless it's a special circumstance, I would hope my commander is not hopping around in a Riptide because let's be real that Shadowsword on the other side of the Battlefield looks very ready to just Wipe it out in one Shot!
      So basically while I understand that a Riptide is much tougher than a Crisis it also HAS to be that Tough because it's Three times the Size of a Crisis Suit while an Enforcer or Coldstar can offer Flexibility and Survivability in a much smaller package and keep up with the groups of Crisis Teams running about supporting the Front Lines.

    Frankly, The Riptide is not GREAT in 10th Edition. They had to get their cost cut by like 30% before they became competitive. Their shooting and special rule are just too poor.
    Ultimately we ended up with a very very durable unit with ok shooting for the cost.

    Riptide: Great in 10th edition.
    Also Riptide: Needed to get 3 points cuts before anyone looked at it twice and even then stilll never used it, it's getting a points increase with the codex and no real increase to output.
    I have not used a single Riptide this edition. With the exception of using one for a Fail Safe Detonator charge, I still see no point in using one. Too expensive, too weak, not durable enough, not enough options to kit it out to be specialised. It harasses heavy infantry pretty well, but so do Breachers and Crisis Suits.

    First make its ability once per battle round. Second make the missiles, fusions, and plasmas not twin linked and make them separate guns.

    How the hell is it 165pts? But a Redemptor is 210? Redemptors are slower, have less wounds, less shooting, less special rules and crucially no invul (invul being huge on tanks/armour etc. to fight against that AP3/4/5 stuff etc.). Don't really understand how something like that is priced almost as low as like old boxnaught dreds. Like a BAs Librarian Dread is 175, I mean has some nice rules, but it's single digit wounds and no invul and it's 10 points more. Something with that defensive profile alone should be surely closer to 200 points? At least 180+.

      @@JasonTan-63887 and? 4+ invul for something that is going to get shot by anti-tank is better than -1 damage ffs. Get shot by a Lancer, the -1 damage from D6+3 damage is going to change nothing, and that is AP4, so it's saving on 6s against that whereas the Riptide has a 25% chance of blanking both Lancer shots. or the Ta'u railgun, it wounds a Redemptor on 2s, and its -5, so no save, and is like D6+6 but a Riptide literally blanks it on a 50/50 ffs. Not to mention the Riptide has more wounds as well anyway so can weather more fire. It's way way more tanky. Melee is way more risky and much harder to get into, add in it has an 8" move so it hardly accelerates across the map anyway and even then it wouldn't kill a riptide in one round of combat, even with tank shock. It's 45 points more for a far less tanky platform, clearly the riptide is massively undercosted. No one else gets a 2+ 4+ with 14 for that level of points ffs.

    • @tajj7
      @tajj7 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ryza7760 lol no it wouldn't what the hell are you smoking? Complete nonsense. All its chaff guns have no AP pretty much, so they will do little to a 2+ save. Then it has to overcharge the plasma cannon just to be able to wound on 4s, it will get on average 4-5 shots, hit 3-4, which means 1.5 to 2 wounds at best. Then the riptide if it doesn't spike the invul saves one on the invul. So the plasma does a mighty 3 wounds to it, which still requires slightly above average rolling. You might get at best another wound from everything else it fires if you are lucky (everything else is wounding on 5s or 6s and has at best 1 AP, so with cover the ripdtide saves on 2s). So we are 4 wounds from shooting, maybe 5 if we have rolled really really well.
      Now we have to be within charge range, actually make the charge, which is far from guaranteed. But let's say we make the charge roll, the Riptide still has 11 wounds left, so to have ANY hope of killing it on the charge we need to tank shock.
      Even with a good tank shock roll, we might have got up to 10 wounds now. Now in combat it hits on 3s, wounds on 3s and half of all wounds that go through are saved because INVUL again, so you are down to 3 damage so the riptide is down to a wound.
      That is rolling above average using ALL its shooting, risking overcharge, being within charge range, actually making a charge roll, using a CP for a strat (which is doing like 40% of the damage btw) and then doing the combat
      And if the Ripdtide does survive all that, it can just fall back next turn, shoot the redemptor and be in cover, with the Redemptor likely stuck out in the open. This all from a vehicle that is 45 points more than it. Plus spike another invul or 2, hardly unexpected when you just have roll some 4 ups and the Riptide will have barely taken ANY damage. Meanwhile Ta'u have loads of guns that smoke a redemptor with ease before it gets anywhere near melee, Melee that is hard to get into, is high risk reward, and still doesn't do that much damage. Melee that I am apparently paying a near extra 30% for, for a worse platform,
      SO yeh tell me again how a t9, 2+, 4+ inul, 14W platform with decent firepower and 10" move, ability to do dev wounds, fall back and shoot, and ignore modifiers is 165 points?
      Also whilst it doesn't surprise me that people defending a clearly too powerful T'au unit know nothing about melee, melee in 10th is hard to do, most melee armies are struggling and just get shot of the board by armies like T'au before they do anything. Even armies like World Eaters which have insane first turn threat ranges, which a Redemptor does not, it's got an 8" move, does not have access to advance and charge in most detachments and thus realistically can move 8" and charge around 6" reliably (but can still fail that) meaning it won't charge in the first turn. -1 damage is not going to keep a Redemptor that alive for two turns when there is so much anti-tank about. But yeh please tell me how Redemptor melee is so good that is has to be costed over 200 points for no apparent reason when you can deepstrike crisis suits with like 3 times the firepower 3" away from an enemy and then move them 12" back into cover, and those 3 crisis suits cost considerably less points than one Redemptor.
