Finally getting into 40k after all these years of being a fan of the setting and my first army I'm working towards is T'au, what a coincidence. This will surely help me work towards the Greater Good!
I'm in the exact same boat. been playing the games and reading the books since at least 2011 with Space Marine, and I bought the Start Collecting Tau box last year. one of these days I'll probably pick up the combat patrol box to continue my (very slow) march towards a real army. Good thing I can play on TTS in the meantime
People expect Tau to play very slow and stationary, which can work extremely well in your first few games against newer players. Your best games as a Tau will be the games you lose or the games you fight from behind and come back because you will learn exactly where you need to sharpen up for specific threats. Tau units are versatile in how they can be built and function which gives them a lot of quick malleability, so dont be afraid to experiment with all ranges of builds and weapons. I highly recommend magnetizing your gun attachments for this reason, though personally i have never cared what a model looked like vs what was on my opponent's list. Hope this helps!
Any tips for someone who’ll be playing against orks? Most of my friends play orls exclusively. I guess ver generally what would you suggest. Also, thank your comment was very helpful.
Coldstars are always awesome, but don't count out Enforcers. An Enforcer reduces armor penetration by 1 against all attacks for himself and the unit he's leading. I like to give him Exemplar of the Kauyon. This gives his unit's ranged weapons sustained hits 1 from the 2nd round onward. He carries 4 weapons, like the Coldstar. Leading a unit of 3 - 6 Crisis suits gives him a wide range of versatility for mob control and armor hunting. Plus, that 4th slot gives him easy room for a shield generator to make him extra tough. Toughness is something you'll need with orcs. The Coldstar can move, but orcs have Da Jump, and can potentially reach you anywhere anyway. Let them come to you and be tough. Plus, make the crisis suits guided, and you've got a buffer against negative to hit firing weapons into melee.
@@jamesramirez523The greatest strengths Orks are likely to have against you are transports that you'd do well to destroy before they can get close to you.
If you want to play T'au it's strongly recommended you magnetise your crisis suits and weapon options. Works for Riptides and Ghostkeels too. And a little for Broadsides. Also if you work out which bits to just put together/blu tack you can run a hammerhead as both guns, a skyray or a devilfish depending how you play.

Like, seriously, what is wrong with wanting to play the faction that actually uses advanced tech, and has goals other than war crimes and genocide? But who am I kidding? Don't get me wrong, it would be great if GW would stop making Tau so aggressively British with how they insist on never giving the auxiliaries any decent equipment... or access to the army rule... or any reason to bring them other than flooding the board with chaff...
I just want to throw this in for anyone interested in starting T'au. Buying 2 combat patrols is actually a very good deal right now, especially if you are working towards a 2k list. Personally the Crisis suits annoy me. They are auto CIBs, almost no advantage to anything else. Wish they would move the CIBs to a brand new T'au kit. I personally would change their load out to make the second of any one wepon would give it Twin-Linked and the third either giving a reroll witht that weapon or forcing you to take something else.

Claiming that Tau are easy to paint seems way off, especially if you are going Vior'la like the box art. They are full of flat planes that demand good brush control or an airbrush, a lot of panel lining that will be a PITA without oils, and they have so many edges as space marines, but many are far harder to reach, as the infantry is much smaller than most. They are not the very highest tiers in painting difficulty, but there aren't many things armies are way harder. I'd rather paint Death Guard, with all the million tentacles, than those flat panels. And nowhere near the easiest armies: Necrons, then Tyranids.
Give us a farsight crisis kit with swords for farsight to lead. James needs to stop being a coward and give tau some high risk melee units so we can stop being a 1 phase army for once.
First you grab a hammer. Second hit yourself with it. Third keep doing until you stop thinking about building a tau army. Nah just kidding go tau if anyone wants and habe fun. If I would do it would be a stealth sneaky army😊
How to start a tau army: Play guard instead. :) I collected them back when they just came out and a bunch of them were metal. I think Nick from PlayOn (Tabletop) is probably a great inspiration for the faction because he's into them being fun, rather than a wish fulfilment army of 40k needing something positive. In case you don't know, tau are a sinister faction and GW has done well to steer away from the goody-two-shoes image they had and are trying to show their authoritarianism and deepseated supremacist beliefs of being superior to other species. Sadly a lot of people haven't realized it yet or how their own world views align in pretty gross ways.
@@Smilomaniac I don't disagree that tau can have bad aspects to their civilisation, I just don't like how GW immediately goes to ~~Mind control~~, like, sure, make them when they meet other factions, it's either assimilate or die sorta thing, or have their weapons be incredibly effective (as they are) but incredibly torturous. Idk it just seems like a weird direction. But that still doesn't mean they aren't a faction to be developed, but considering their entire thing is technological progress, unless they were completely destroyed then they need victories here and there to learn, whether that involves many tau getting dissolved by Tyranids or bolter fire then so be it, as long as the faction's lore is developed from it
I don't understand why this video was made, why would someone start a Tau Army? Is this so we identity those who may be 'at risk' mentality? That's the only explication that makes any sense.

The ultimate anti tau weapon, a yuong cat
I think Tau is one of the more expensive armies these days.
For a competitive army, yes
Have you been listening to Poorhammer podcast?
Rules don’t seem to be downloadable anymore or I just missed them
Personally the Crisis suits annoy me. They are auto CIBs, almost no advantage to anything else. Wish they would move the CIBs to a brand new T'au kit. I personally would change their load out to make the second of any one wepon would give it Twin-Linked and the third either giving a reroll witht that weapon or forcing you to take something else.
Cib is not provided in the crisis kit, so you probably gonna see codex version of crisis unable to take any
can someone explaine me how the sacont list works he has 2 6 krisis squads and 2 commander but then he has farside what squad farside is joining? or is he just flying around on his own
I'm sitting on 30 crisis suits wishing I could drop the old farsight suit troops
That and get 30+ cyclic ion blasters printed out
if "not that expensive" means "one of the most expensive armies to collect" as proved by @poorhammer a few days ago, then sure.
........ did u watch the poorhammer video ,that was for taking into account one of EACH unit , and ur not going to buy one of each unit , esp the overcosted ones
Only got about 7k points of tau from 9th that have never seen the table
BETTER GET THIS ONE UPDATED STAT! I AM KROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
I have unfortunately lost pretty much every game I have played with my tau.
Checked Noble Knights and it’s actually more expensive.
Give us a farsight crisis kit with swords for farsight to lead. James needs to stop being a coward and give tau some high risk melee units so we can stop being a 1 phase army for once.
Tau? You mean Kroot with their gun helpers?
Tau combat patrol lo0king mighty good. Could get away with buying 3.....
Thanks for the comments section. A who's who to avoid
I hope they make Vespid killteam one day.
Tau are the lamest race in Tau empire
First you grab a hammer. Second hit yourself with it. Third keep doing until you stop thinking about building a tau army. Nah just kidding go tau if anyone wants and habe fun. If I would do it would be a stealth sneaky army😊
Warhmamrr
#1 get a 3d printer
First step: buy 2000 dollars worth of gouda cheese to go with your cheesy greater gouda
Better question: Why would you start a Tau army?
😂
Because they're cool
Don't DO IT
Throw them away and buy a non-comminist faction 😂
Just kidding, Enjoy what you like most
I prefer my hyper capitalist bdsm pirates. But I also have a few other factions for actual play
Step one: Dont
Step two: Buy Eldar.
Step three: Rake in the wins.
"don't" 😜
You start by not doing it and consider your life choices who led you to even have the thought.
Aw but me no wanna play genocidal maniacs 0~0.
How to start a tau army: Play guard instead. :)
I collected them back when they just came out and a bunch of them were metal.
It's pretty sad that GW decided that the lore had to be sinister, rather than letting Tau be a naive faction being their hubris.
guard is boring tho
@@sharpshotm16 Still just comes across as good, you need them to fail permanently for that idea to work, in which case I’m all for it.
@@ToastedMap1e They’re probably the most versatile faction in the game.
Aw but I don't want to play a faction of genocidal maniacs...
I hope you are joking lol, your views are more outdated than a finecast model
Starting Tau army:
Buy some intercessors, paint them blue and stop with that xeno nonsense.
I'll let myself out.
Most space marines are lame, go xenos i say
The trick to having fun when building a Tau army is to buy a whole bunch of Kroot and don’t build a Tau army.
Step 1) Don't.
Hint: You don't - you play something else.
You still have time to delete this
bro died to a hammerhead once and decided to be anal about it
