The other day, I was doing some experimenting with stretchy beanies. I did a knockdown stitch with my embroidery machine and then applied my DTF over that. The hat can stretch all over the place but it stays stationary under the transfer; no pull = no crack! Granted, it takes a little longer than just a transfer but WAY faster than a complete embroidery sewout! I can't attach a pic or I'd show you but it turned out pretty rad!
I'm trying those winter hats and the DTF sticks but the problem here is that the fabric does flatten out quite a lot and it als warps a bit. I even bought those hats with a patch to test it out bout all the fabric around the patch just warps a bit and flattens. I tried lowering the pressure and increasing the time but then the dtf won't stick... difficult one...
try going a little lighter on the pressure and make sure the fabric isn't stretched at all when you press. You could also try a cricut mini heat press as that would press just the area the transfer was going onto.
We did not do any kind of wear test with this...since it's so hot here :). It's been a demo in our showroom and people do like to stretch and pull on it and it's been fine. I still think embroidery will hold up better but there are some graphics that just don't translate to embroidery well. Thanks for checking in!

Go Hawks 🖤💛
How long did the DTF last after 11 months, is it still good without breaking?
