Poem I wrote about the hijab ban
In the realm of sport, where champions are crowned,
A push for gender equality is resound.
As the world prepares for the Paris Games,
Olympic organizers aim to break gender's chains.
On International Women's Day, a declaration was made,
Complete gender parity, a path to be laid.
A historic moment for women in sport's history,
An opportunity to celebrate their victory.
But amidst the excitement and fanfare,
Some women are left behind, in despair.
France, the Olympic host, bans the hijab,
A move that leaves many feeling stab.
In the name of championing women's rights,
France strips them away, causing strife.
The UN condemns this discriminatory act,
No one should dictate what a woman must enact.
The Olympic Charter stands strong and clear,
No discrimination should interfere.
Yet, France's ban contradicts this decree,
A blatant violation for all to see.
The IOC's response is dismissive and weak,
Ignoring the rights that they must seek.
Amnesty International raises its voice,
Exposing the hypocrisy, giving no choice.
No woman should have to sacrifice,
Her faith, her identity, her own paradise.
Sport should be inclusive, a place for all,
Where women can rise and stand tall.
Let us come together, raise our voice,
For the women who deserve a choice.
In the Paris Games, let equality prevail,
And celebrate the strength of every female.
