    Thanks for the video. I have a similar problem at home, but the actual adapter has broken rather than a 'separation' issue. I assume it's the same sort of procedure as in your video in order to fix it. I will try it on the weekend. seems straightfoward enough. One hopes.
    Thanks again for a nice clear easy to understand video

    These videos has been an emense help to me in finding and solving a number of downspout and french drain issues. I started off to encapsulate my crawlspace and ended up solving the outside rainwater issues 1st. Couldn't have done it without Chucks videos. The effort and willingness to share his trade tips are appreciated. !

    Nice video, thanks. I’m assuming it’s standard practice to not glue the piece that goes into the 90 degree bend? Would hate to dig that up and it’s glued :(

    Do we have to glue or put a screw the downspout with the downspout adapter? thanks for helpful videos of yours

    I would recommend to check the slope of the horizontal drain pipe that is underground. It must flow down hill, a 1/4 bubble on your level for proper drainage away from the building is essential. After many years the earth packs down near the house and this pipe may no longer drain out to the grass or field. I also recommend to glue the pipes together to prevent weeds from growing into the pipes. An aluminum pop rivet will not corrode as a galvanized screw on the downspout tube.

    Any ideas on how to do a downspout underneath 20 feet of concrete and then it comes out into the yard so it will stay away from my side yard that already gets a lot of water standing

    My downspout dimension is 4.25" x 2.75", and the adapter dimension is 4" x 3". They don't fit. Can't find one that fits yet.

    Is there no way to keep the joint from leaking? My system has the joint above ground next to the house. When it rains the water leaks out the joints and against the house/foundation. I can't bury it for various reasons. From your video it sounds like sealant wouldn't help. Maybe just put a piece of flexible plastic under it so the leak is directed away from the foundation?

    • @appledrains
      @appledrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like there is no fall on the drain. Or it’s backing up. Those are the 2 most common reasons couplings leak.

    • @101perspective
      @101perspective 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@appledrains Yeah, I think you are right. I was looking at it and the first downspout is buried but the pipe from it comes back out of the ground right before the 2nd one. So, probably a slight uphill on it.
      Btw, the 2nd one can't be buried because it has a ground level (on it's side) retaining wall it has to get over.
      I'm starting to think the best solution will be to just get rid of the pipes altogether in that area and have the down spout simply point out into the yard... maybe extend the downspout 3 feet out from the house and let the natural landscaping take it out from there. It's basically the opposite of what you do in your videos but certainly better than having water going directly into cracks and stuff along the basement walls.

    Downspout adapter should fit inside the pipe, especially if its not glued

  • @Spiritgumm
    @Spiritgumm 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Someone needs to invent a long, form-fitting sleeve for downspouts, like the section on the plastic "flex elbow" that Amerimax makes (the flex part of which is too long for this situation). You would never have needed to dig up this pipe, since the sleeve could slide up the downspout (after removing the wall strap), then lowered into the existing adapter.

    • @appledrains
      @appledrains  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a great idea! Something that gives, and takes with freezing and thawing and settling

    • @Spiritgumm
      @Spiritgumm 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@appledrains Actually I hadn't thought about the expansion/contraction. I was more thinking about the installation. I'm in the north, and I wanted to easily disconnect the downspout from the underground connection, and redirect to a surface pipe in the winter. There isn't a tight fitting connector for the adapter you used (unless you fill in the gaps with whatever), so I used a 3"/4" pvc pipe adapter for the ground pipe, and connected to the downspout with a different Amerimax flex connector. Don't like the cheapo plastic and flex part, but it fits better for now.
