I'm really happy for Skall enjoying his new home. On the matter of that first katana's lack of guard, I'd still want something there even just to feel more comfortable that my hand's not going to ride up onto the blade.

As a Dynasty Warriors nerd, always loved the sophisticated style of the jian. It would be very interesting to see you learn it's technical handling in comparison to your European learning.
In the research I've done (back in high school, over 10 years ago), it is said that menuki used to be placed under the palms, but as wars died down and the sword's primary purpose went away from battle and more towards showmanship, they placed it on the other side so they can still be visible while being held. Also, it's safer to push the katana out of the saya with your thumb. When there's no tsuba, you use both hands, one on the scabbard, the other on the handle, and push against both thumbs. It's the proper way for unsheathing a shirasaya, still a lot safer than trying to yank it out like that.
Hey, I know that packaging and sword bags....I have to admit, they do some pretty good work for the price. I've only done bottle cutting with them though. Are you able to stress them a bit more for a video?

That is not katana Is type of heng dao. That design mainly use for special forces for special missions. Heng dao is the father of Japan katana during early Tang dynasty.
