@@wedgeantilles1498 uncanny is "unlike the way it usually is". Humanoid robots for example look uncanny because they never quite look like humans. There's always something wrong that makes it feel like it's not a human.

On the matter of that first katana's lack of guard, I'd still want something there even just to feel more comfortable that my hand's not going to ride up onto the blade.

I like the Outdoor Unboxings. Seems like the lighting is great for picking up details on the camera. Also the fall looks asthetically perfect there!
Lastly, i think I saw with the Chinese sword, the creature head on the guard is better viewed with the blade facing down. the pointy things at the bottom of it looked like feet and right below the jewel inserts, it looked like the nose of a traditional eastern dragon.
I'd like to see an outdoor unboxing to immediate cut test after admiration.
Anyone else see "Kenshin" and thought he would get a reverse katana/falx?

Nice new blades BTW. All our tastes change over the years. In my youth it was bows and great sword, then bows and katanas and several taste changes later I'm on to bow and dual wielding daggers. Whatever your tastes and passions become, I will still tune in friend Skall. Adventure on!

So not only is Nova Scotia a far less expensive place to live than BC, it seems to have much better weather for outdoor filming as well. Another win for Skall and the channel.

As a kid my neighbors watched as kids swung swords at each other and routinely got injured by broken metal wall hangers. Not a damn one said anything. They just walked their sheltered brats inside. Man I loved the 90s.

Both of those swords look really cool, and you look quite impressively dangerous testing them.
On the video, it looks like there is still some tweaking to do get the exposure settings right, as there was a good bit of white-out in the highlights thanks to the sunlight. Still fantastic to see you enjoying the new property and new life of freedom.

In the research I've done (back in high school, over 10 years ago), it is said that menuki used to be placed under the palms, but as wars died down and the sword's primary purpose went away from battle and more towards showmanship, they placed it on the other side so they can still be visible while being held. Also, it's safer to push the katana out of the saya with your thumb. When there's no tsuba, you use both hands, one on the scabbard, the other on the handle, and push against both thumbs. It's the proper way for unsheathing a shirasaya, still a lot safer than trying to yank it out like that.

That Chinese sword is an imitation sword of the Emperor Yongle’s sword Ming Dynasty. The original one seems to be in the British Museum!

At first i thought the Chinese sword hilt resembled something out of Jim Henson's the Labyrinth.
Also, much like a lot of things in the media, pertaining to the katana is that everyone else's over-enthusiasm is what kills my interest.
That is not katana Is type of heng dao. That design mainly use for special forces for special missions. Heng dao is the father of Japan katana during early Tang dynasty.

Cool swords. I used to hate no guard swords too, but now I just don't "love them" over the others, but I could definitely accept a nice no guard sword as gift, those are still very much usable. And I like the cool Bowser looking mofo on the chinese blade.
