- Part of The Shear Zone Channel. Unconformities are like the divisions of book chapters in the narrative of the geological record - fundamental for deducing Earth History. Join Rob in visiting a classic example at Telheiro, SW Portugal, showing how to recognise them in the field - and on maps and sections.

So very well done! We see what we need to see, at every moment: and we are guided by a lucid and purposeful narrative: every word in its proper place. The whole framed in inspired images. This sets the standard: thank you!
Well done! I am so happy I found your channel. These are new outcrops for me and I am loving it!
Thanks - glad you're enjoying it!
Thank you so much for the simple lesson.
Thanks - more to come!
Really nice example of an unconformity which takes me back to A level Geology in 1972, thanks for posting......The beach is quite well known to surfers, due to the huge waves there.
See indeed - lots of great surf along that coast...if a bit of a scramble...
I am an UNED undergraduate student of Ambiental Sciences and Geology is a basic subject with 2 x 6 credits at the first year (Geology I and Geology II). Great explanation and a really amazing example of unconformity which can be seen perfectly on the spot. By the way, I like that Tilley. I also have one. Greetings from the Canary Islands, Spain. Cheers!
Thanks for the comments - glad the video is useful. Incidentally the hat is a fake Tilley...(WhiteRock)... but a good hat is essential!
Geology rocks!
absolutely!
That's an amazing vedio Rob.... a very nice exemple ... well done Rob
thanks!
Angular unconformity, at least according to my wayback memory machine. I appreciate your dedication to advancing the teaching of tectonics. I've learned more from your videos than my undergraduate instruction, maybe graduate too! Cheers!
Thank you - glad you're enjoying the channel...
Thank you very much teacher for this wonderful educational video, if you continue through the Iberian Peninsula, a good geological destination would be to visit the stratigraphic section of Zumaia .
Thanks - yes there's certainly great geology all along the north coast!
Nice job explaining a beautiful outcrop!
thanks - it's a great polace - if slightly tricky to get onto... the classic images are taken from the sea!
@@robbutler2095 Sounds like another historic unconformity.
I am still in 200 level geology, don't know much. But this videos are really helping me grasp the practical knowledge of geology. I still have a lot to learn though. But it's fun
Great stuff - glad you're finding geology fun - it's pretty exciting finding out how our planet works (and other ones too) - and the record of these processes!
@@robbutler2095 other ones too, do we get to learn that in geology I thought it's restricted to study of the earth
Absolutely - geology key to understanding planetary evolution. The Curiosity Rover on Mars is a robot, driven by geologists! @@Akindavey
